We need an experienced manager! (8 Viewers)

Im sick and tired of my club appointing unporven managers, we need someone proven at this level, such as Shaun o'Driscoll, who on a low budget worked miracles at Donny , a league 1 club, and made some great signings. Or Mark Robins, who worked wonders at Barnsley as well. Maybe Carsley as assistant but not manager, hes not ready!

No, Coleman never managed at this level and Boothroyd was on the sliippery slope. No comparison at all actually.

If you can name me one that would join for free and work for Thorn's wage (which won't be much) then you've achieved something I certainly can't.

Steve Evans, Karl Robinson, Mark Robbins -- oh that's 3 and it took me 2 seconds thought.

Evans has only ever managed as high as League 2 and is in work meaning we would have to pay compensation to Crawley which we won't do.

Robinson is in charge of a team 4th in League 1. Their future outlook is currently better than ours (could replace us in the Championship next season). Wouldn't leave them + again compensation.

Robbins whilst out of work would still want a wage higher than Thorns. Also check his Wiki page where it says "By Christmas, Robins had taken them a full nine points clear of the relegation zone and on a run of eight games unbeaten. This was followed by a poor spell towards the end of the season, and Barnsley finished 18th in the table". How familiar does that sound!

The funny thing is dowie did at least give us some good times, and i suppose so did boothroyd. This now, is just terrible. No hope, seemingly no chance and no manager worth his salt would come here. A very very poisoned chalice indeed.

Dowie did kg82, I accept supporting cov is never easy, but dowie did give us some hope. All of us were jumping for joy at man u and blackburn and some of the league games. Save your face palm shite for something else !

Calm down, it wasn't at you! It was aimed at the "I'm sick and tired of us not appointing experienced managers" and "Coleman and Boothroyd weren't" comments! People can say what they like but Adams, Dowie, Coleman and Boothroyd were all experienced managaers, they had managed before. Enough crap about "they were on their way down" etc etc - the truth is that all those managers bar Boothroyd were the fans choices.

Very familiar - and 6 placed higher than we will end up with Thorn in charge.

Even if we appointed Robbins right now we wouldn't be 9 points clear by Christmas so the poor end of season spell would just be exactly the same as our rest of season spell and we'd be down anyway. So worth-while...not.

Dowies tenure will always remembered for Manu and Blackburn, everyone forgets the other dross.
Ian Dowie record at Cov
Played 49
Won 20
Drew 8
Lost 21

I know some of that is cup games but that would be 68 points in 49 games, averages 64 points over 46 games.

What logical thought. So let's stick with Thorn the most useless manager in the division and do nothing. Oh and don't say get SISU out because they are the ONLY people who would consider this clueless individual as manager.

I will say Sisu out because with new owners we'd actually have the money the bring in new better players and a manager that isn't just scraped from the bottom of a barrel! The owners have a knock-on effect as to what happens everywhere else within the club and everywhere else in the club we are failing miserably!

Well even I have to agree with that.

Yes, we've had a long line of them since Butcher. If AT does get the chop - which I don't think he will - then we should appoint someone with experience and NOT Lee Carsley. Oh, I don't want AT to go, BTW.

step up ken dulieu,
we eagerly await your words

Steve Evans, Karl Robinson, Mark Robbins -- oh that's 3 and it took me 2 seconds thought.

Steve Evans-manager of Crawley? Club on the up, they'll have a bigger budget in L1 than we will next season, if they haven't already. He certainly has more transfer funds. Also, a very dodgy geezer off the pitch and a horrible, nasty man. Don't want him anywhere near my club. Would also cost compensation money we don't have.

Karl Robinson-manager of MK Dons? Flying high in L1 with more chance of being in The Championship than us next season. Massively inexperienced and in his first job. I'd rather have AT anyway, given that, but he wouldn't come to us anyway. Again, would cost compo.

Mark Robins-best shout of the 3 as he's out of work, and did well turning around Rotherham on a shoestring after administration. That said, they still had one of the best squads in the division after relegation from L1, not to mention a certain Adam Le Fondre. Other plus points are he plays decent football. Negatives are that he failed at Barnsley, so why would he do any better here with much worse resources?

Where on earth do you get that from? Adams, Dowie and Coleman were the fans choices? Adams was not the fans choice. The club told us he was the fans choice but that was simply not true. The CT had a poll and at the top of that poll by a clear margin was Gary Johnson as the fans choice. Adams was well down the list at something like 4th or 5th. The club told us he was the fans choice because they already had him lined up for the job. I know for a fact that Adams was coming to City games for 4 of 5 matches before Reid was sacked.

Though fans weren't opposed to Dowie and Coleman, they weren't exactly the fans choices either.

Also have to say that I think a lot of people are missing the point. Yes, we have had experienced managers here before and they have failed, but it has been a completely different remit. They have come in to try and push us into the top half of the table and beyond. The aim has been play-offs or better.

Completely different kettle of fish at the bottom of the table. Now we would be looking for a wise old head to get us out of the bottom three. It is in this particular situation that you really could do with a man with experience of working right down the bottom of table and having the ability to turn things round.

As i say a completely different remit to previous seasons (can anyone remember any other season in the Championship when we have been down in the bottom 3 for a period of time?) and an experienced man at the helm or indeed the bringing in of help to aide AT would not be an unwise move at all.

Oh, sorry my memories aren't the same as yours. I'll stick to what I said though because I remember what I remember.

The poll in the CT most certainly did not have Adams as the first choice. I do remember the board telling us that Adams was the fans first choice however. I also recall having discussions on GMK with posters completely puzzled as to how the board were saying that Adams was first choice when he clearly wasn't.

I'm with kg82 on this one,
Adams was a very popular choice at the time and it would be fair to say he was a fans choice.
( Top of a newspaper poll by a few hundred fans or not. )

Davies complained that he needed more transfer funds after spending 10 mill in one season, no chance he'd come here.

More realistic options would be Sean O'Driscoll or mark robins.
