In an ideal world I'd prefer someone English but we don't have that luxury. How many of the top managers are English, there's nobody to choose from.No reason it has to be an English candidate and none of them are any good anyway.
I had a 100% winning record for England on Football manager, I did quit after 2 games though because international management is boring. Nobody employed me after that and I had to retire after being jobless for 5 years.
I was just naming as many english managers I could think of in the top two divisons. You actually named Dean Smith as a candidate...really???
Anyway, gave it to Roberto Mancini IMO. No reason it has to be an English candidate and none of them are any good anyway.
Was it about him leaving to be the next England managerbut most commentators say he had a fall out with his Chairman.

I just put it on holiday mode and return when offered a job, nothing came. You found international management boring.......yet went onto have 5 years job hunting? Bet that matched the boredom
The question is what is most important: qualifying for the next World Cup or having an English manager? If the former, we need the best person available, regardless of nationality.I think it will be English, the FA seem to have been making a big drive to get more young english players to go into coaching. <snip>
the most important thing is to act professionally, & THAT MEANS the journalists too
I rest my case. There is no stand out candidate. Hoddle, Redknapp, Pardew will all be to too edgy for the FA after Big Sam.
Eddie Howe doesn't want to the go in that pressure cooker at such a young age.
English candidates left
Southgate
Bruce
Pearce
Neville
Dyche
Warburton
Phelan
Pearson
Dean Smith
Chris Hughton
Paul Clement
Lee Johnson
Garry Monk
Simon Grayson
Gary Rowett
Chris Hughton
That just about every English manager in the top two division or involved in the england set up recently.
He's been out of management for 10 years.I rest my case.
Hoddle is the only Englishman...did well last time & so much unfinished business imo

English and former PL manager. Are we going to get dragged into this?Apparently a few more due to be named.

And your point is that he doesn't know what he is talking about I suppose - none of that matters. He's been out of management for 10 years.

No, that's not my point. My point is there's been a lot of water under the bridge since then, and whilst I like the way he talks about football he's been out of thr game for too long and I'm not convinced this generation of players will have thr same level of respect for him as the previous set a decade ago. Add to that he'll not have thr same level of connections and contacts in the current game. For me looking back on hoddle is like the way we look back at Eric black. And your point is that he doesn't know what he is talking about I suppose - none of that matters.
Its my opinion that he is the only Englishman that stands a chance of bringing us any real success.

For me it's his general logic & analytical approach whilst instinctively he likes flair & an attacking style. The right team around him I still think he would cut as good a mustard as anyone. Is there something i'm missing when people keep suggesting Hoddle? 10 years out of management! Absolutely nutty idea to bring him in.
Now the Messiah Eric Black has been caught!
