And two wins, who would give Venus the job ?

I think we need to know if Venus is interested in the job first.

If so, you give him 10 games. 2 wins already . Can he get another 4/5 in the league?

Pretty sure his contract ends at the end of the season as well. So you never know.

Calm down now lads... lets not get too excited yet.

That's exactly why I asked, I bet a lot of fans will get dizzy after a couple of wins. That said, with the team starting to play well and build momentum while a lot of other clubs are without managers, and some of our main targets / people we've been linked with potentially looking elsewhere maybe Venus wouldn't be the worst shout on a temporary basis possibly leading to a full time position

I think we should really start judging him starting with our next 4 league1 fixures. What we witnessing as always is the new manager syndrome.

I would if had to make a decision today. He will not change things too drastically from mowbraya philosophy and when it works that's what we all want to see

But he's adding his own ideas and right now it's working great. He has said himself though that no rush to get a manager. I think he wants it but probably wants to see if he's right for job first. I doubt we will have any answer for a month yet

Tbh I think Mowbray would have got it right too but with circumstances off field the winless run lack of confidence sometimes just needs a personnel change to freshen it up and start over. I don't think we were far away just need more goals that now seem to be coming with that bit of confidence and ideally still need some more muscle at the back but nothing majorly different needed and abother change could unsettle things, so sticking with what we know, if he wants it I'd happily appoint him now and remove any uncertainty.

Like I said in a different thread when did venus move upstairs and leave the training pitch and dugout.Maybe he was the brains and motivation behind our good start last season.

Mowbray would have got the wins, i know he said he didnt feel the pressure but he did, he would have turned it round but venus seems to have a calmer personality about him, which will rub off on the players.

We need stability I'd give him rest of the season if he's happy with that not because he has won a couple but any new manager will have to work with what he has, get to know players some he'll fancy others he won't, perhaps bring in a coach or promote Ricketts wouldn't rule that out

Do you think Mogga was a bit hasty in leaving now ? As we all know in football sometimes it can change quickly, and a win can turn a season round.

Venus is just a suit who does not seem that keen on the coalface. Why don`t we try something leftfield like a manager from non league, someone mentioned John Eustace.

Before everyone howls Andy Thorn, remember Jimmy Hill had never managed before and John Sillett was a youth team coach.

I see your point, but Venus seems like an infinitely more professional man than Thorn.
I walked round Andy Thorn once. He seemed pretty infinite to me.

On a serious note, is there a transcript of the post match CWR interview with Venus anywhere? He said there had been lots of applicants and that he hadn't applied for the job but the owners know what he's about. Was very cagey throughout.

I don't expect Mark Venus to be the next Sir Alex but we need stability doubt if he will lead us to promotion but confident we'll get well above the bottom four. What will be interesting is will he be allowed to bring in one or two free agents in and then at Christmas there will be McCann to replace.

yes! i have been saying this since start of season. we would have been winning soon enough under TM and surging up the table.

no chance, he'd lost it.
Hate to have to keep coming on these threads and slating the bloke because I genuinely really like him as a man but his time was up.

No he was right to go. It wasnt just his record this season but over the whole of 2016 was not good enough. Him leaving seems to have taken the shackles off the team.

Tony's defeatist attitude did not help. He practically predicted the post Xmas nosedive last season in the media. You can call it honesty but it puts doubt into the minds of players and he should've been trying to make them feel invincible.

even if his time wa sup it shouldnt be forgotten what he did for the team

Yeah he fucked up our only chance at promotion in the last 50 years and left us bottom of league 1. He leaves and then slags off the squad that he's brought in and basically said they will fail. Cheers tony but looks like we are gonna be fine without you.

he got us to our best chance of playoffs lets not forget

and he hasnt slagged them off, just shown a bit of frustration. the fact he left rather than continue losing and just moan at owners shows hes a class act

TM gets all this hate yet people still say they want robins back

weird

Yeah, there's no rush, see how we go with Venus. He's on the board so it's not cut and dried as it would be if he was a coach or assistant manager or something. Still don't think he'll be the permanent manager, but whilst he's winning, keep him.

It has always puzzled me when a manager leaves a club and his team then go and win the next few games.
Not just our club but many football clubs have seen a manager leave a struggling side, and the same players and set up then go on a winning run. What a strange sport we love !

That's because a manager tends to get sacked after a bad run and even terrible sides do win a few, so it seems like a 'new manager bounce'. Studies of WLD stats show it isn't actually a thing.

Same as being susceptible after you score a goal, stats say otherwise (and yes I know this happened last night :shamefullyembarrased:).

If were not gonna promote our own for the role why not go for an assistant coach at a prem team instead of a dogshit park kind of coach?

We've had new managers who have never managed before, experienced ones, young, old, shouty ones, quiet ones, long ball advocates, good previous records, bad previous records and we're 2nd bottom in L1, so TBH you can suggest anyone and I'll go 'Yer, why the hell not'!

Like players all managers are a gamble. Like you say we've had all sorts. Maybe we need to clone one ourselves and have a mixture of all the types you mentioned !

Yep.

We need a kind, likeable, jovial, nasty, quiet, shouty man, who can give a player a hug and a pat on the back while he is smashing teacups on the floor and bouncing him off the dressing room windows.
