For me it's Hillsborough 87, 6th round v wednesday and 15000 city fans being crammed into the leppings lane end. There were men around us losing control as you could hardly breathe, we managed to get out at the back and went round to the left side where we climbed the concrete steps upto the stand. When we got there we could see slightly less than half of the pitch as the side of the wednesday stand was filled in with opaque plastic glass. After about 10 mins the old bill came up the terrace dragging a city fan backwards past us and ACCIDENTALLY letting go of him at the top of the steps, I called them bastards, and before i knew it i was tickling the back of my own neck as the unseen third copper escorted me down the steps. As soon as i opened my mouth to protest i got a smack in the chops off him. Ended up getting chucked out and ducking and diving for about an hour till me mates came out. I was not surprised two years later when those terrible events unfolded in that same end of the ground, it really was a disaster waiting to happen.
On a lighter note wingy how come your brothers keep gettin chucked out at the footy:D

Sheff utd in the cup losing on pens was absolutely gutted after that game

Although I wasn't there that is still the game that hurts the most in 28 years of following the club, even more than when we got relegated because by the time the Villa game came around we all knew the writing was on the wall. But the cup game....I was utterly convinced we were going to win the cup that year with the way we were playing. I remember the first Sheff U game, we should have won that by a cricket score with the chances we missed.

That was mental that day. I picked my feet up off the ground a fair bit away from the turnstiles. I got carried most of the way there. It was even worse at times inside the ground. Wouldn't have missed it for anything. The QF game was a better day out than SF or final. This is a different story altogether though :D

Watford away with Steve Walsh still haunts me. Also anyone remember Stoke away a few years ago it was about -5 with freezing fog so you could not see from one end of the pitch to the other, Stern John missed about 4 sitters before Andy Griffin scored a worldy from 30 yards.

I guess you'd have to say the Ricoh isn't the only place with overzealous police and stewards:D

I think the semi final was better than the cup final for me. It felt like we had achieved what we wanted which was a day out at Wembley and the ups and downs of the game were exhausting. Always remember the 1/4 final as the first really big game I had ever been too. Squeezed into the corner of Leppings Lane and remember being blown away buy the size of their kop bear in mind I was used to looking at the West End at HR. Difficult to believe when you look at things now how you could be herded into a fenced area by the thousand and pretty much left to your own devices

Cup Semi Final 1987. Two minutes into the game I suffered (what was later diagnosed as) a collapsed lung. I thought I was having a heart attack at the age of 19! My mate looked at me and knew there was something wrong but we both blanked it. Stayed until the very end and then had the task of trying to get to the coach which was a nightmare with my impaired breathing and bricking it in case the Leeds fans got hold of us as I could barely walk never mind run..
Didn't stop me going down town on the Sunday night to celebrate either!
It's great watching that game again as the tackles seemed to be harder then and the players just got up and got on with it.
God I sound old!!

You sound like a true sky blue soldier SQEEAM,reffering to the Liverpool disaster ,some one was culpable and should have been held to account and it was'nt the police or the liverpool fans, but the official who passed leppings lane as capable of holding 15000 fans.

Sheffield utd away. Cup quarter final replay on pens. I've never been so gutted in my life. We should of won at HR, but lose like that especially when it was never a corner in the first place for there equaliser, was soul destroying. I was in my twenties at the time but cried like a baby! Even worse was the way the Sheffield utd fans gloated. There's no doubt in my mind we'd of got to the final again that year, Newcastle were shite. Me and my mates were arguing on the way up to Sheffield about who was gonna queue up for the semi final tickets, in our minds we were already there!

Your right Johnny, no surprise what happened soon afterwards.
Was down the front that day can't remeber my feet hardly touching the floor the whole game, great atmosphere though.
Oh sorry you missed it.

Oh yeah, and then the station we changed at in London their former player, Andy Johnson, was there. He just went down with the fans to watch the game! Baggies fan with 3 teeth started on me in the train as well because I touched his table trying to keep upright (no, that is not a metaphor for his penis by the way)!!

3 teeth? A decent smack and it'd have been a strike.

I was going to start a new Thread, Best ever Home day, but i could'nt be bothered.
My worst home day was when i was about 10/11ish and me and my dad had season tickets, but we never ever once used our actual seats as my dad ,who was a cantankerous old bugger, always sat us in the press seats in the main stand so we had a table for the fish and chips he had smuggled in.
Anyway my best mate supported Leeds and when we played them at home we took him as he had never seen them live. Yet again sat in the press seats my dad, who could fall out with himself, started to bad mouth 3 Leeds fans who were sat a fews rows infront of us. It soon got very heated and my bloody Dad got up and went straight up to them and started this almighty brawl. This started to make me cry loudly and my mate could'nt beleive it and was totally bemused.
This brawl went on for some time which made every person in the main stand stop watching the game to look over to us , until the stewards finally dragged him away and made him come back and sit back next to us. By now i had become hysterical and my mate also had started to cry, with people around us trying to comfort us, but my Dad just could'nt understand why we had become so upset. I had never been so embarrassed, and my mate still dumbstruck just wanted to go home, but my Dad insisted we stay and enjoy the game, but the day was ruined for both of us.
We drove home in silence, and when i got home i took my revenge by telling my mum all what had happened, which i knew would hit him the hardest. For some time probably weeks,he had to cook all his own meals and all his clothes washing and ironing, until my mum had cooled down.

The Rev

Removing the cooking, washing and ironing privileges probably wasn't all she withheld from him for several weeks.

Sutton United, Northampton Town, Chelsea (L6-2) - all during the 80's. Could also add in Reading in some gormless cup where we lost in the Semi's!

I was at that Liverpool match - went in a coach with some lads from Canley Teachers Training ~ met my girlfriends mother on the way out the Kemlyn Road Stand - stopped at a pub and got a lock-in while we replayed the game on a table footy over 5 games.

Then stuck in the fog on the motorway - stopped at the services and a food fight kicked off - couldn't find the mini-bus it was that foggy. Had to go to work the next day because my boss knew where I was going, so just got home, got changed, and went to work.

Tottenham away 1970 something, the stewards sent us into the wrong end, we're standing there, thinking "not many City" when it gradually dawns on us - we're in the wrong end ! Vow to say nothing, then 15 minutes in, Murphy hits a 30 yard screamer into the top corner of the net, and we just forgot where we were.

Spurs fans soon reminded us and we had to go over the wall while some steward tried to shove us back. Got some cockney a beauty as he tried to drag me back over a barrier. Very nervous rest of the game so couldn't enjoy the win - started smoking again after having been nicotine free for 18 months.

Too many to mention but ones that stick out are:-

Rochdale away in the cup. Lost 3-0 and half of my mates didn’t get in the ground cause of the forgeries doing the rounds.

Colchester in the cup when we humiliated. That night Staunton told me to fuck off the cheeky coont.

Villa away the day we got relegated.

It didn't help that they'd spelt Rochdale wrong on the tickets!!! ;)

Good day on the piss though and in Stafford after.

Two shit days out at Watford one when we went down and the game got cancelled because the Man U player they had on loan died in a car crash and then Watford OB decided to close the town centre down so we couldn't even get a beer! And then the other I think we got spanked 5 -2 and after not getting in till silly o'clock in the morning I was minging all day, watched a shit match, got the train home and went straight to bed. :slap:

Otherwise even if the football is shite it usually ends up a good day on the piss.

haha worse then them dodgy 20 notes doing the round in Newcastle in the cup that year. Remember the bars refusing to take any 20 notes at half time in the end. haha

Stafford was a quality night, like you say LG the football usually wrecks a good day on the lash.

Was you in my motor that night when we played Watford midweek? Stopped in a little villiage on the way back?

Blackpool 4-0 Coventry, 22 December 2007:

Christmas-related traffic leading to an M6 trip taking over four hours (usually shade two hours), only just getting in before kick-off and paying stupid parking prices.

Temporary bleachers for an away stand completely exposed to the elements in late December.

Kevin Kyle sent off in the first half.

Being hammered 4-0 in a wretched display to a team who at the time were relegation tips.

All-round shambles of a day.

Must have been 40 odd years ago, my very first away trip on my own on a coach to Burnley. They had Ralph Coats playing for them, I can remember the Sky Blue Army singing Ralph Coats is a fairy. God the place was dump, looked just like Corrie. Anyway I think we lost the game 1-0, but what happend after remains in my mind. First a lonely Burnley fans was spotted by the City fans and given a right good kick in. I was messing around on the coach with the other two lads who came we me and got booted off the coach miles from Cov, know idea where I was. Some bloke in a Triumph Spitfire picked me up and dropped me off outside the Foleshill Club. My dad went balistic, I made the front page of the Telegraph, came to my school for photos etc. I also remember going to Forest and having the coach bricked, and cops catching the lad that did it, and giving him a right kick in, he kept saying sorry mate, the cops said your know mate of mine and give him another smack. This around 1970 I think, can't remember the score

Too be fair there was loads of moody fivers doing the rounds at Rochdale as well. Must be something about the FA Cup. :)

Yeah that was the re-arranged game me and our feathered friend went down on the rattler trying to use the same train tickets we'd bought for the Saturday game as they didn't get stamped on the way there. Didn't get away with them but fair play to the Conductor he gave us a squeeze and gave us the cheapest tickets he could much to the disdain of the other Cov fans who had paid twice as much depsite buying them in advance!! Then you gave us a lift back. Result.

Loads. The Sutton game. Away to Scarborough mid-week in the league cup at the beginning of the 90s. Being one of 16 people in our end in the Full Members Cup at the Victoria ground in the mid 80s. Losing 5-1 at Filbert Street just before Xmas circa 83 or 84. Losing 3-0 at Anfield (also mid-week) to a hatrick of penalties from Jan Molby...

EDIT: Just realised this is an old thread and I've already posted in it. Ah well...
