I'm in London that day and would've gone in the evening. But realised it's Valentine's Day so not sure the wife would appreciate it...
Aaah, schoolboy error my friend. I had the same dilemma - it's my local game as can get a train from my local station for 20 mins to the ground, direct. But yes, St Vs day, so how to get out of it?
The answer is that during December I told Mrs Oucho that this game was coming up on a weeknight ..
Oucho: "it's dead local for us, we won't have to do our usual 200 mile round trip to Coventry or take ages going into London and then out again for an away game".
So she goes "yeh, ok" whilst distracted doing something else
Oucho: "It's Feb 14th by the way"
"Alright" (still distracted)
So I get us the tickets, and a few weeks later:
Mrs Oucho: "so what are we doing for Valentine's Day?"
Oucho: "Well we're going to Wimbledon after work for the football, aren't we?"
Mrs Oucho: "What?"
Oucho: "Don't you remember, I asked if you wanted to go to Wimbledon and you said yes"
Mrs Oucho: "Yes but I didn't realise it was on Valentine's day!"
Oucho "I told you it was February 14th!"
Mrs Oucho: "Well I mustn't have realised...."
Oucho: "OK, but I've got the tickets now"
Mrs Oucho **glowers**
On second thoughts, you might want to find another, better way of getting this past your wife!
