Hi all,

With Nicks permission, I wanted to post something about a charity bike ride I'm doing in September, cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats in aid of Dementia UK. I've just launched a Just Giving Page last night, with a target of £1,500.

I'm not asking you all to give anything but if anyones been affected by this horrible condition and wishes to donate, the link is:

Read Jody's story

Thanks in advance and thanks Nick for allowing me to post this.

I've clicked on your link and when signed in it says I do not have permission to donate to your page?

Oh really? Hmmm, let me look into it. I had a couple of friends sponsor last night straight away when I launched it. Thanks for the heads up.

The link seems to be working fine now. Have you considered starting at John O‘Groats to get gravity on your side?

Lol! I did say to the others about going downhill!

Apparently it's easier doing LEJOG as opposed to JOGLE due to the winds coming in from the SW so that works for me. I've worked out the route to be about 40,000 ft elevation which sounds a lot but this means 40,000ft downhill as well.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

My old ma's just been diagnosed with this and vascular dementia

Thanks Robbie and whilst I've not had any direct experience, I've done a bit of research into a number of charities prior to this and it looks a bugger of a condition.

I try to think what it would be like if someone close to me had something like Vascular Dementia or Alzheimer's and not recognise me and I'm sure it would be heartbreaking.

That's why I chose this charity. Hope things are ok with your mum.

Will make a donation weeman. My Dad is suffering terribly from dementia for last eighteen months. The only good thing about it is he doesn't realise how shit the City are at the moment. Would break his heart.

Sorry to hear that Neal and thanks in advance. Hope that things work out ok for your father.

Thanks to Olderskyblue as well ***thumbs up emoji***

My mum has suddenly gone down hill. She has not been diagnosed, but in the last 6 months or so she has really been struggling to get her words out and she is forgetting loads.

She is 87 mind, so I think forgetfulness comes to us all as we get older.

Nice one Weeman and the best of luck, had a friend diagnosed with dementia
2 years ago, he was only 41 with 4 children 2 of which were very young.
He had to move out of the family home before Christmas as his behaviour was
Becoming more and more erratic, sadly he took his own life 3 weeks ago.
Will definitely be making a contribution. Good luck.:emoji_bike:

Thanks all and it's saddening to read everyones stories. I knew it was a bugger of a condition but maybe had underestimated how prevalent it is.

The ride isn't until September Brylowes so plenty of time! It might be because you're abroad potentially? Seems to be working ok for folks here in the UK.

I'll be putting in WM when I get My credit card back. Saw a programme last week didn't realise there was a simple test to see if you've got any dementia problems. This and cancer are two awful diseases they're the sort that you don't know the extent till someone close to you had one.

Thanks BHSB and thanks to the new Anon donator.

Like I said above, I've not been directly affected but having heard stories, I know it can be an incredibly lonely and hard experience from those who suffer and those who are there to support loved ones.

Thanks Clint, greatly appreciated. I need to ensure that my little legs will get me there, let along giving someone a backy!!

As an FYI, the majority of donations so far have been you Cov supporters! I don't want you thinking that I've got no friends or family! I only posted it once on FB on Saturday night when a lot of people would've been out!

I'll get to that target! I've had a few pledge promises from family members!
