I can't recall his name but the Yugoslav goalkeeper who had such a bad game in 83-4 that Gould said in the press he would never play again. Next game the replacement was injured and Gould had to eat humble pie!

As others have named it was the useless Raddy Avramovich.

I saw him beaten by another Keepers Goal Kick (Steve Sherwood of Watford) and in his last game for the club, let a cross in at his near post and punched the ball into his own net. Maybe he is related to Burge?

We had it the other day. Tudgay - the worst striker - oddly the poster admitted to seeing John Gayle. They cannot have seen the dying embers of Bob Latchford, the curious Graham Withey or the Greek beach bum Tommy Langley whose sprinting prowess made Yakubu look like Bolt on a very good day..

Hearing Gayle, Withey and Langley in the same sentence brought me out in a cold sweat. They would only just get in the team now, which is saying something!

You couldn't beat being 3 - 0 down away on a rain soaked open terrace only to see John Gayle come off the bench. I liked him as it was always likely that he'd cheer me up with a really bad tackle near the end of a game and brighten the 100 mile journey home up a bit.

Surely as we are at our lowest position in some ridiculous amount of years, you've got to say it's mostly the current squad?

I mean a player who looked shit in the Championship or Prem might not look bad at this level. Players who look shit at this level we know would look shit at a higher level. If that makes sense.

I'm pleased to say I seem to have managed to wipe all memory of John Gayle's performances from my brain. The thought of John 'The Flying Postman' Williams bombing through the middle does still fill me with dread, however.

John Gayle was one of a handful of footballers who could go up for a header and end up heading it as he landed on the floor.
There is nothing wrong with not being very good and Gould bought a few of them but players like Platnauer never stopped trying and that for most of us can be enough

Still some of the best times watching CCFC, when Quinn was banging them in and the whole side seemed determined to attack, whoever the opposition, and show no fear.

Tell you what though, Gould didn't half sign some shockers amidst the diamonds. Sometimes they worked though. Saw John Williams mentioned above and he may have been shit, but we needed some pace and he had that - remember seeing him beat John Wark time and again after giving him a 10 metre head start.

The point is comparisons normally are pointless as there are hundreds of worse examples from the archives.

However, as I sat watching the ensuing car crash on Saturday I did genuinely think as a regular first choice Lee Burge has to be the worst goalkeeper. Yes the inevitable Italian will be mentioned but I'd wager hardly anyone saw his game (I did ironically) and it's one game. There was the French guy and the Danish one and Scott shearer but I can't recall the depths I see this guy sink to.

The tennis ball game he looked like he'd been hit by one as he staggered around the 6 yard box. The first goal on Saturday I thought the poor chap had contracted St Vitus dance. Then he seemed to have concrete boots as he lumbered out to not claim a ball that was 80 20 his to get.

Yet when Mowbray first arrived he never addressed the most important position in the team - he started as his number one.

Lee Burge enters my hall of fame as the worst of the worst. Yet no one has done anything about it at the club.

I know he was a loanee and didn't spend a significant period of time with us, but if we are taking about the worst of the worst, you can't not mention Andre Wright. He is genuinely the worst winger/striker I have EVER seen.

As my username suggests, it would be churlish of me to opt for anyone other than the great Dimi Konstantopoulos - though seems he's gone on to forge a reasonable enough career post-City.

Don't do yourself down Dimi, I thought you were a good keeper for the City, and I'm not surprised that you did well after leaving. Despite that, I used to have a good laugh at the alternative moniker of "Dimi Cantstopalotofshots".

Completely agree about Burge. All the opposition have to do is lob the ball towards Burge and if it's a 50/50 between he and the oncoming attacker Burge always looks hesitant. Generally over the decades we have been blessed with some talented keepers but that era seems to be most definitely over.

If Burge and RCC are the fruits of Oggy then perhaps he isn't up to the task, but realistically in his position, ask yourself if you'd jack it in?

Amazing servant, loyal through and through when he could have moved on post 87 and genuinely decent honourable bloke. Some of the criticism on here towards him defies belief. Blame the people who run the club. Christ if they offered me the keepers job I'd take it and be 1000 times worse.

Have to say, when you consider the players Adams had, he did alright! Paul Watson rocked up once or twice too, and who could forget Trevor Benjamin?!?

Then again, there is nothing worse than a really good goal-keeper who lets in stupid goals in big games.
Think any England goalkeeper since Banks and Shilton (and possibly Clemence), Hart, Robinson, Green, Carson etc. etc.
I'd say a good goal-keeper is easily the most important player in the team. And we've sorely lacked in that area since Westwood left.
