Every time we've tried wing backs it's been an unmitigated disaster.
Slades downfall was panicking and adopting it. Mowbray adopted it with full backs who'd never played there.
Wing backs defend as well as attack.
It has been, but Haynes and DKE are more naturally suited to playing wing back then Willis, Page or even Stokes. Didn't Haynes come to fruition with Pressley playing wing back? Your issue is you dislike Haynes and DKE, regardless.
Slades downfall was a lot more than trying to adapt TM's tactics. How many times did he actually play 3-5-2? Plus, TM tried to play with two wingers at 10.
If the wing backs are disciplined, it's a formation than can work as it allows two strikers.
