Never Visited The Cathedral (3 Viewers)

Got talking to an elderly customer today. She was saying how much Coventry had changed in her lifetime, and not for the better. But what surprised me was that she'd never been to our cathedral or the Motor Museum. Two well known visiting attractions of our city. She had no interest in either even though she's active and gets out and about.
Got me thinking has anybody on here never been to those places ?
Surely not !

It's weird isn't it.

You will find no-one less interested in cars than me. I really have no interest whatsoever and wouldn't have a clue what having 4 cylinders means, or even care how quick a car can get from 0-60, but I still find the transport museum a fantastic place. I really love it there and have been so many times.

I love the cathedral too and St Mary's Guildhall and the Herbert. It's amazing though how many people you talk to who have never been to any of them.

I am also not interested in cars but the motor museum is excellent and although I don't do the whole tour I regularly have a walk through the cathedral.

Bizarrely the chap that owns the garage were I get my cars has not interest in cars outside of the ones he sells and says he can't stand things like top gear

It reminded me of someone I knew who lived next door to a pub but never ever went in there, and he liked a drink. Strangely opposite me is a takeaway/chippy and I've never been in it !

I live about two minutes walk from the Amid Palace in Nuneaton but drive past it to go to Agra Palace in the town which is ten minutes drive away

I do like the Old Cathedral, and will usually pop for a look in if I'm wandering around town (which isn't very often). Personally, I wouldn't pay to go in the new one though.

The Guildhall is very impressive if you get a chance to have a look in there, as is Holy Trinity (the one by the Flying Standard ya heathens!) but in truth my favourite historical building is Kenilworth Castle - always go there or go past there when I can...

Do tend to go to both, often if we go swimming we will go in the motor museum and walk back through the Cathedral.

I think most schools do them both now anyway too for the younger generation, my daughter has been to both on trips and she loves the motor museum, even if she doesn't pay much attention to the actual car she just likes looking at random things like the activities they have. Same as the Herbert, although I had never been there until last year.

We go to the Transport museum often, great place, as for the Cathedral, I went to Blue Coats so we where in that place every other week. Even though I am a non believer I love churches etc I love the architecture and the feel of the places, the older the better and our new cathedral is one of the best there is despite it's young age, a truly wonderful building. And I'm yet to be struck by lightning exiting a place of worship I've visited, so I can't be that bad?

Don't care about cars - motor museum is great

Not religious - cathedral is beautiful

Sometimes people travel to the other side of the world and have to see all the sights but don't see what's on their doorstep. Although I'm sure al Coventry schools do a trip to the cathedral, mine did at least.

Every single person I have ever met that has declared a lack of interest in motor vehicles has had something of the night about them, a rather shifty ilk, a touch of the Darth Vaders.......and they smell.

Depends what you class as an interest?

If I see a brand new Ferrari cruising around I'll take an interest but if you start wittering on about the new Ford Focus' heated gearstick then mostly I'd want to pull your teeth out with pliers.

But it has 3 heat settings and leather piping, how can you not be interested in that? ;]

I enjoy driving And picking out my next car but people who are really in to cars are odd. They tend to have better friends made of metal than flesh.

I have no interest in everyday cars really, but I do have a love of classics and unique cars and couldn't care less about the new Mondeo, BMW 3 series etc. My good lady works for Mclaren so we talk cars quite a bit in my house, well I do, I get more exited about things she is doing at work than she does.

You see, I look at sports cars and expensive cars like Ferrari's and Lamborghini's and I just think what's the point and what a waste of money.

Don't think I have ever got excited over any car ever.

May have something to do with my family never having a car though. I was the first person in our family to get a car.

I know how to change a tyre, tune the radio and switch the wipers on to fast mode, but that's just about where my knowledge ends.

I love cars. Especially older cars when they actually were made of metal and chrome.
Just the other week I went to an auto junkyard and found a grille off a 1987 Volvo 240. I'm going to mount it on the wall as sculpture.
And yes, I've been to both the motor museum and the cathedral several times.

I think it is the thrill seeker in people that interests them in those sort of cars, the fact they are at the cutting edge of design/engineering and quite dangerous. People who buy them don't see it as a waste of money in the same way people don't see it as a waste of money to upgrade the 12" black and white TV to a 4k 50" inch one, you can watch TV just fine on the 12" black and white but it's a much richer experience on the 4k.

I like my 12" black and white TV.

It does make watching the snooker quite challenging.
Reminds me of a funny story.

Even into the late 70's we only had a black and white TV at home. Anyway, it was Bonfire Night. I went out with my mates to go and watch a firework display around tea time. You obviously also only needed to look out your lounge or bedroom window at home to see the fireworks lighting up the sky too.

Did the display, came back home after a couple of hours, went in the house and there were my mum and dad sat in the front room, curtains closed. They hadn't looked outside at any of the fireworks and were content to just sit there watching a firework display on the black and white TV.

Bizarre.

Hahahaha...that is true. The father in law (to be) has 18 cars that he keeps in various fields around the village where he lives. He seems to spend more time with them than with his family. He has also given them names and refers to each of them as 'she'.

Listening to Danny Baker recently he said he'd been to Coventry and had a great day out there. He went to the Sgt Bilko museum and said it was great. I've never heard of it has anybody been ? He told his listeners to go it was brilliant.

Yep, been several times. Seen the photo of Danny Baker with the owner too.

It's a shop, but at the back of the shop he has a little Sgt Bilko fan, nostalgia and memorabilia bit. It's quite good, but you have to like Sgt Bilko of course.

Gone. The place burned down. :( No idea what happened to all the exhibits.

Shame, it was a great little place and lovely old building.

Just a guess, but I think they may have burnt in the fire? :-;
