Windows XP went out of support years ago so it was wide open for exploits like this.

Speaking as someone who works in the NHS, this is just symptomatic of the whole organisation. The IT systems that I have encountered are really quite poor compared with systems used by social services.
Not at all suprised something like this has happened, was just a matter of time before it did.

problem is when your given the choice between paying for that or paying for medical equipment what ya gonna do?
Of course, the NHS is totally safe in the hands of the tories.

The senior management needs to be streamlined but unfortunately the people who do the streamlining are the senior management so unless they fancy early retirement with a big pay off and early pension it won't happen.

The money has been raised by donations, many from staff and patients.
Peter Burroughs from the hospital said: "This money was specifically donated for art in the new hospital and could not have been used for patient care."

All of which were funded by donations to art link so could only be used for art.

Exactly, when Cameron promised there wouldn't be a top down reorganisation that's exactly what happened. Budgets for each department were slashed and the managers had to make the decisions on what to cut. They aren't going to cut their own jobs or pay.

the management needs streamlining, ask any doctor or nurse who work for the NHS what they think of the management and I'm sure we can all imagine the response.
But the NHS should be given whatever it needs to function, it is one of the greatest, if not the greatest institution in the world.

It brings our children into the world, and looks after them while they grow.
For those of us of working age, it keeps us healthy so we can be productive and contribute to the wealth of the country.
For the elderly, it looks after them and affords them care so they can deservedly enjoy their twilight years after a life time of contributing to society and it takes care of the most vulnerable, people with debilitating illnesses, those with mental health issues etc.

Do we really want it replaced with a system that sees young people in debt with medical bills because they've started a family? Or denies people life saving treatment based on a loop hole in the small print of some shyster insurance companies paperwork?

There's plenty of ways it can be funded if the will there, unfortunately with the tories, it's not.

Absolutely right. We've been having our budgets cut since 2010. We've lost lots of grass roots workers. Strangely, the middle manangers are still about. Well, I suppose there needs to be somebody to tell senior management which grass roots workers we can do without.

Don't most European countries still charge for treatment upfront and then there is a reclaim of a percentage of the funds and the balance the user has to pay for through an insurance policy or just pay?

This definitely was the case a few years ago and some charge for doctors appointments.
