Really shocking business by the club to pay a fee for a player and allow a clause like this to be included after the first season. Would understand if it was a clause stipulating e.g. another club bids over 200k but for free? Pathetic.
Anyway, down to Turnbull, he's weak in the tackle and soft in the air and deserves to be in League 2 in all honesty.

Not so sure, but I could be wrong. Think it was a one year deal with the club option of extending it if he played x amount of games. His option was a freebie if we got relegated. Called a two year deal as the option was there if we never got relegated. Like I said, I might be wrong but sure I heard that from within the club.

I think this is based on that amazing overhead clearance at Wembley. If you only look at that, Turnbull would seem to be the next Bobby Moore.

He part of the problem that we got religated.
Should have a clause in all thier contracts we get religated we pay you nothing, we get promoted we pay you double.
Or even you play for nothing the following season unless we get promoted.

he has potential and played alot better under robins at end of season. also was part fo swindon team that made playoff final in league 1?

I believe his deal was for his wages to be reduced by 50% if we were relegated
Most contracts with such a clause allow the player to leave rather than take the reduction in wages
Don't know what his deal was but suspect he was one of the better paid players at the club

personally I think that's unfair, he's only 22, which is very young for a centre half. He never really had a stable partner, but each to their own...
He will improve and go on to play at a higher level than us.

It's interesting that a 50% wage reduction and a relegation release would be in place for Turnbull given that he signed in the summer and not for say Kyel Reid. Who would you say was on the most money out of that pair? I'd have guessed Reid. I get why Beavon has the clause, given the time of year he signed and the position we were in. I'm struggling to see the logic of why we were thinking of relegation with Turnbull but not Reid

Not fussed at all on this one, was very poor the majority of the season and only showed his abilities a handful of times.
Very lightweight and lax most the time another where shone in the sun at Wembley but was pathetic in a midweek game.
Will get a league one move for sure/I hope I don't feel league two is his style after seeing him bullied most of this season

I don't know if Reid has a similar clause but I'd heard MR has told him he can go if he can find another club
As far as I know Beavon is happy to stay with us as I doubt he has a relegation clause as he joined us when we were already in trouble
These relegation clauses are mostly there to protect clubs from high wages in the lower league if they are unfortunate enough to go down

Some I do, a player with the mental strength of a 10 year old ain't.
Countless times he was bullied last year by slighter players, not to mention being hauled off at half time against Southend by MR.
Another powderpuff performance that night for him, allowed his man to breeze past him to cross for Nile Ranger to score after a minute.
Was dropped to the bench for the next few games as MR favoured Rawson
We need stronger types than Turnbull to go 46 games in league two.
Seriously was he any better than the average Arron Martin, TM had to say the whole team was shagging his Mrs to get him fired up after TM said he was "to nice"

I think Turnbull is replaceable. Perhaps the most replaceable of those who are out of contract/contain get-out clauses in their contracts. In all honesty I'm shocked that clubs such as Bradford and Charlton are in for him. His abilities are best suited to League Two, something that was shown time and again last season.
The issue with Turnbull that was repeatedly apparent was that he needs a top class CB alongside with him. Therefore, I wouldn't personally want to take the risk on him next season as the last thing we need is dead weight. Yet another poor acquisition by Mowbray. Out with the old in with the new I say.

I thought Turnbull was poor, against Walsall at home they had barely threatened during the first half but a free kick from distance and Turnbull lost his man who headed over but should have scored, basic requirements of a centre half which he hasn't got t

Considering the long ball is likely to feature more in league Two, there would be an argument that Turnbull could once again struggle next season with us. His clearance ability is nothing short of appalling. A number of goals last season were the fault of him and I've heard from reputable sources that managers such as Venus were appalled by his performances and themselves questioned his ability and work ethic. Makes me think do we want that kind of player in the squad when its crucial we get back up next season.

short termism has got us to where we are now. We need a team / squad who can develop and grow, replacing a handful every season, not the entire team every 12 months
