Sorry Sylus but I hate these threads because from our relegation years way back to dropping out of the premier with the ill fated sign 'we'll be back' until now we have all stated this will be our year.
Why? Or better still why haven't we been promoted or even near to promoted?
The answer, for me, is we have always lacked a manager with a strong work ethic.I used to live abroad and when I returned to England was surprised at how many 20 - 40 year olds thought their 'coolness' was hip when in fact they were confusing coolness with laziness. The 'I'm a laid back kind of guy' can be translated to 'I'm an idle ba$t&rd'. I used to dislike cliches but in some cases understand their mean now.
Sayings like - nothing succeeds without hard work, or you don't get anything without hard graft - is so true. That is what made Shankly, Paisley, Jimmy Hill and Fergie so great. Not their knowledge, but their attitude towards working.
We will only achieve anything if the players decide they want success and work for it. The manager is the one who picks the team and if they pick players who they know don't give their all then they are to blame. Players don't pick themselves.
Managers nowadays don't have loyalty, they don't know the area where the team is located. And, because of the large amount of money involved in football many players, and managers, have their money tied up in investment so logically they are more interested in what is happening off the park than on it.
