This should be a wake up call to those who are keeping Sisu here by purchasing tickets.

In the light of the hedge fund's aversion to spending money on buying players, and in the light of them not being prepared to offer more than the National Minimum Wage, ticket buyers should ask themselves where their money is going to.

Enlightened Sky Blue fans of the NOPM variety already know the answer to that one!

Did you hear that sisu ? its not always about the money .That is how ordinary people make important decisions, On the other hand in your world SISU its all about the money and nothing to do with the city the club or its people .That is the reason your crooked hedgefund will never be accepted by true sky blues.

So we couldn't compete with the wages of a non league team. Well done SISU.

Wise decision NOPM

Didn't take long did it.

I think the main problem here is where he currently lives
Wages in that area are much higher than the rest of the country so I guess his day job pays very well
If he'd lived nearer to us I think he'd have come - he does say he's not written off going pro but I guess that means he would be more likely to take a chance with a club where he didn't need to move like Swindon or maybe Wycombe

Staggering that people can't grasp that it wasn't a case of us offering less than non-league wages.
It was basically non-league wages + day job wages vs Our offer - the cost of moving his family - his day job wages. He could quite realistically have been bringing in at least 50k a year from his day job and non league wages. So to beat that and offset the cost of moving his family do we need to offer him 60k? Do we make a 28-year-old non-league player one of our top earners? Do that and the NOPM lot would be screaming that they'd never heard of him and this is the only type of player we can attract now and that we could have used this money to bring back Saint Carl Baker.

Why is it a non story? I think it's quite interesting that a player like that is better off part time. Whilst at the same time I understand it from our point of view. I wouldn't want us chucking good money at a player that is a risk. It's a shame for the guy that the finances are what they are. Fair play to him for making the choice he did too.

It isn't a non story, it's very interesting and topical

I think the issue is people watching too much Sky Sports News with players on 300k a week etc and think that filters down to League 2, where the average wage is not that much in reality. So when people have half decent day jobs and then top it up with non league money they will be better off.

A bloke yesterday who wasn't happy about it seemed to think average L2 players were on £1500 to £2k a week.

It's the same when Sambou went to Everton to be on thousands and people moaned we didn't match it, we would have had a kid who wasn't breaking into the first team as the highest earner at the club.

The people complaining about this situation.
Shouldn't be complaining that we didn't offer a non league player enough money. As that isn't the crux of the issue for this player.

They should be complaining about the decision making that led to us sitting in division 4 having to try and tempt non league players. Also the fact that come the summer we face having to find a new home. After numerous false promises that our new stadium would be well on its way by now.
Also our owners are attempting to sue the people that we need to negotiate with if we want to stay where we are. Also the majority understand that the legal action hasn't got a chance so it does nothing but harm us.

The other thing from his perspective is that in all likelihood his football career will be over in 7 years at most. So he's probably too old to 'do a Vardy' and go up through the leagues, and he won't have the name value to immediately get a coaching role or job in the media, so he might make a few years of L2 and maybe L1 money (Championship if he does really well) and then he'll be out of the game and looking for another job to see him through the next 30 years.

Dave Tarpey isn't a footballer name anyway, Dave Tarpey is a guy your old man knows who'll give you mates rates on your guttering
Exactly. And why would he give up his own successful guttering business (he has his own van) and semi-pro wages to come here?

Yep, and it'd be a 2 year contract with absolutely no guarantees at the end of it. He's never going to earn from football the money that higher level players do, so why would he leave an established job?

He wouldn't leave because apparently SISU only offered him three Curly Wurlys and a packet of Love Hearts a week and they insisted on a relegation wage cut clause in his contract. NOPM SHFWF.

Probably perfect for an 18 year old living with parents to make that step up but at 28 with a mortgage, career and family it's completely different.

Seems a sensible chap who looked at it decided what was best for him and his family. CCFC have their pay structure and couldn't offer better for an player 28 and unproven in the football league. Seems sensible all round to me. You could argue well at least they tried to get a non league hot property. Had CCFC paid over the odds there is a ripple effect on the rest of the squad or squad building. It isn't as if CCFC have not signed any players

The club has to manage its budget with limited or no support going forward from the owners. That means deals offered have to be attractive to players or not and the cost has to fit in to the budget, to not do so ultimately means selling players or worse still going bust. In anything other than football/sport this is normal business practice - creating a budget and working within it

The figure of average wages L2 of £800 relates to basic salary in 2014/15. The new TV rights deals, the current transfer market etc have a ripple effect on that average gradually pushing up salary expectations in all divisions. An average means some players in the first team squads will be on less than that.

Interesting article on Youth academy wages Do Academy Players Get Paid? The Basics on Youth Wages suggests Youth Academy players can start at a weekly wage of £300.

Got a feeling at the bigger clubs in L2 the average will be well in excess of £800 by now

With a mortgage to pay and family to support, do you quit a steady job to earn potentially less on the chance you will get spotted and go up to the Championship and big money?
Have to factor in his age as well. If you had that sort of option at 21 you'd probably go for it. At 28 you're a lot nearer to the end of your career. Are you going to make enough in the next 5 years to make it worthwhile.

Personally I would go for it at any age unless it was totally unviable. Wouldn't want to be sat in a few years time thinking what could have been.

NOPM are full of shit. We can only spend X% of our income on wages, there is literally no way that we chuck money around even if we had it. Sisu are dicks but if there's no money coming in there's no money going out.

The way the NOPM-ers are going on you would think we've missed out on a guaranteed L2 20 goal a season striker. This guy is totally unproven at this level, so why should we offer him top money?

That's the thing, we offer him big money then what will Doyle and Andreu type players expect?

How do we attract experienced proven players if we have made Biamou our best paid player for example.

You also have to ask, why has nobody else local signed him as yet?

NOPM is bullshit, happy to flood the coffers when we're at Wembley or playing a prem team but not prepared to support us when we really need it.

Mindlessly demanding that we offer more money for a player that I very much doubt any of them have even seen play.

Oh, and also crying that we need to have a wage restriction to comply with FFP while proudly saying NOPM. Christ...

There's no thought behind the rants.

People seem to be acting like Joy has phoned him up direct and made him an offer, rather than somebody like Robins or Widdrington or have the get the wage balance right between the senior pros, younger pros, youth teamers etc.

Can't just throw whatever wage a player demands.
