As a few of us follow CRFC I thought on the morning of a new season I'd start a thread for the season.

First up away at Hull.

Big summer of new bodies and a very decent squad put together you'd think they're In a very strong position to win the league and get promoted.

Have we got rid of all the big spending teams down in this division yet, or any to be worried about, still?

I don't think there will be any side that go unbeaten like Hartpury last year.

I think there are 4/5 teams with a good chance of the one and only promotion spot.

The only article I've read is by the guy who covers Moseley and he says "Coventry at a canter with Plymouth nearest competitors".

I think Cov are seen as the biggest spenders. It'll be interesting as to go up will mean ALOT more investment to complete in the Champ and this year maybe a year too soon.
But they've added more positions behind the scenes I forget the role but like a CEO or something along those lines, I think the club maybe prefer promotion next season to give them more time I really don't know.

Yeah could be their year.
Have they laid the artificial surface for this season?

Not sure not heard but you'd think something's been done with Cov United using it so many times a week, the rugby league side and today Cov RFC .zoo side (2nd team League) using it.

Thanks ever so much for the updates pal, this has made my day !! I have high hopes for Cov this season and will be getting down to a few matches when I can ! Keep up the good work !
If you want to keep up to date Ashdown, Tim Smith does match commentary on his twitter account Tim Smith (@CowshedTim) on Twitter
A bit flaky today as he lost connection with 15-20 mins to go but usually very good. I didn't go today as I'm working for one thing but a big match next week against old rivals Moseley. Should be a great contest and a big crowd expected. There's a lot of expectation about this Cov side this season.

Fixtures here for those at a loose end on a Saturday when City are away etc

Fixtures 2017/18 – Coventry Rugby

First home game next Saturday the massive derby game v Moseley, always a fiesty & classic encounter!
Started going a bit the year we went to Northampton. 2 years ago we went when we were away, and we really enjoyed the games, last season was the same, until finally we actually paid to go to the Butts even though we had CCFC season tickets. This season have dropped the CCFC season ticket, and will be going regularly to the Butts. Unfortunately the atmosphere is toxic at the RIcoh, the football is often dire, we find the complete opposite at the Butts. Really looking forward to next week's local derby, and yet missing a CCFC home game would be unthinkable a few years ago.

Ok great thanks for the info. I shall miss the first two home games due to a holiday but will be up there on Oct 7th. I missed Moseley at home last year as well, mind you I heard it was bedlam at the bars and they ran out of beer at some outlets ?!

Tim's updates are fantastic and he's who I follow for the updates. He writes 3/4 really good blogs a week on all things Cov RFC really worth a read for the inside track

Was a farce last year unfortunately they hadn't planned ahead, lad at the bar said same number of staff on etc yet ground was x3 the usual.

Going up next week and on October 7th v Bishop Strortford are my next 2 ventures to the BPA, sadly when will be my next venture to the Ricoh for CCFC...who knows!?

His blog is a very good read, informative and well written. There's even a full match report and pics from yesterday's game, which is more than can be said for the two rags that have Coventry in their title.

Apologies ISSS, I should have added thanks for the link. As with sw88 for CCFC matters, these are invaluable links by people who do it for the love of it and not because they are being paid to do so.

No worries, exactly it's brilliant people do give up their time to do so!

Should be an absolute cracker!!

This promo is a virtual carbon copy of the Coventry Blaze's intro from last season. But you are dead right tomorrow's match should be an absolute cracker. Will be interesting if they can breach the 3,000 attendance figure.I believe all the hospitality is sold out.

You'd like to hope but I reckon 2,600. City playing at home won't help, last years game was a week before xmas few I know at that one live elsewhere and we're back in Cov for xmas, I went up with a small group for various reasons I'm the only one going tomorrow.
Moseley should bring 300 ish.

50-11 win unreal performance, how gutted the team were at conceding the last min try summed it up!
They'll take some beating this season.
Only 2100 there unfortunately!
Yep superb performance from start to finish, some great tries and this team looks the real deal. Obviously pleased that CCFC won as well to end a perfect afternoon, but in terms of entertainment, the best place to be was undoubtedly the Butts. The crowd I believe was given as about 2100, but to me it looked bigger than that. But play like that every week and the crowds will only get bigger.

Totally agree some of those tries especially 2nd half were something else 3/4 passes In the blink of an eye 40 metres out to over the try line!
James Stokes will be the next Will Harrell jumping to the prem from Cov!

How gutted and angry they were conceding last play try sums it up!

On top of the day the set up of the Broomfield Tavern, Railwaymans and Earlsdon high street top the day off!

I really hope that this is the season when CRFC show that they are well and truly on the path back up the divisions. Very impressed with what I've seen and heard from Roland Winter, the faith the Club have in him, and the progressive recruitment especially in recent months. Add in the passionate home support, the overall matchday experience that ISSS refers to and the message already sent out to others in the first 2 games, it could be our year.
2 down, 28 to go.

My fourth or fifth season of going along to see them now.
What a controlled performance, that for me was the difference between all the other games
Although I've seen some barnstorming games the tempo never fluctuated at all yesterday.

Phew! I didn't see that coming and I don't think many did. A phenomenal performance of relentless controlled power and pace which Moseley had no answer to. It’s hard to believe that this Moseley side beat a very strong Worcester side pre-season.

If we keep playing like not many sides are going to get anywhere near to matching us. It was notable that after Ben Palmer crossed over for that lovely last try, Callum McBurnie shook his head in disbelief and uttered to his team mate “Impossible”.

Blackheath have surprised me with two very good wins against Plymouth and Rosslyn Park. We’ve got them next home match on 23rd, could be a cracker. Last season’s home fixture was an ill-tempered affair with Blackheath essentially losing the game through poor discipline.

Here’s yesterday’s tries
