Sounds like Merkel will have the same problem as the Tories here and will have to jump into bed with someone who they wouldn't normally choose to. And to think they are the strongest EU country.
And like here the racist vote goes up. Something needs to be done before it gets worse and a racist party gets in somewhere.

The latest projection is 34.4% for Merkel, 21.2% for the SDP and 14.1% for the racists. So Merkel looks like getting just over twice of the racist vote. The SDP say they won't join her again. The SDP and racists have more votes than her. So it will take a lot for Merkel to get the majority.

It is a surprise at least that Merkel only got just over 2 votes for each racist vote.
Yet some will still try and make out that there is nothing wrong. The AfD only started up 4 years ago. Could they become the second biggest party next time?

That's the only reason they haven't had the usual coalition or they would be faced with the reality of a far right party as official opposition.
Sick Boy and Martcov have nowhere to hide. Britain leaving the EU had a totally centralist vote - ukip (which isn't extreme right compared to this) was booted into touch. Yet we have real national front parties growing in strength in the countries tied to a federalist state of Europe.

Didn't Le pen get 34% of the vote in France? That's almost three times the AFD and that was seen as a massive kick in the teeth for anti EU supporters.

It's quite clear what is happening with voting in European national elections although some dare not admit it. I take no pride in saying that but it's obvious what's causing it.

I know zero about German politics but why are the people who have been saying on here for months Merkel is deeply unpopular in Germany and had no chance in the election now saying her winning with a smaller vote is some sort of victory for the right?
Surely if she was predicted to lose and hasn't she's done better than expected?

Dave consider this. Seven out of ten voters are against Merkel. May has massively more support than merkel from her electorate.
She hasn't won she's hastily getting fringe parties to prop her up.
30% fewer voters voted for her.
An openly facist party formed four years ago has seats in parliament. For every 2 voted merkel had they got one. It's the equivalent of the English Defence League having 50 seats in parliament and is the first far right party to have seats there since 1946

Who predicted she would lose? But she did lose nearly a quarter of her votes. And it can't be blamed on a low turnout. Over 75% voted this time.
She has now said that she will listen to the people that voted for the AfD. There are millions more unhappy with the amount of people entering Germany. Most votes lost by the coalition government didn't go to the AfD. Germany isn't a country of racists. But they have had enough of paying more tjan we do so that the EU dream can continue.

There was a prominent CDU spokesman on TV saying how they lost votes to AFD. I also saw analysis showing AFD got 1M votes from CDU, 1M from other parties and 1M new voters.
You are wrong to simply brand all their voters as racist, a lot of them are citizens concerned at the way Germany is changing excising their democratic right to show discontent, Merkel's policies caused this situation.

the right will continue to rise as governments are being dumb regarding immigration. so innocent dumb people are being taken in by the right, they might not be evil people just vulnerable like earlsdon sky blue
the makeup of the country is changing and its unsettling alot of people, this should not be ignored. refugees are welcome, but it cant be a free for all as england will be drastically different soon

no one is waking up as such, i think alot of people have had concerns for a while now. not all jump to the right though and change their twitter handle to britishbulldogNproud etc however. you are still not stabbing imams like in manchester though at least
it is a worrying time at the minute as even if fixed soon you can see next decade being a problem in this country and others in europe too. if may doesnt sort it out i would not be surprised to see tommy robinson as prime minister

No. Martcov is not happy. Nobody should be happy with this result. Most of Germany is not happy. Farage may be happy that the extreme right has gained so many seats, which would confirm his admiration for the extreme right. But no one with self respect should be happy with a Nazi like party back in the Reichstag - I mean Bundestag.
But it is not a vote against the EU. Sorry to disappoint you. All other parties were pro EU and together polled over 80%. So no problem with the EU and no one gives a toss about Brexit. Not a theme in the election.
I wouldn't call her deeply unpopular as it wasn't just between 2 personalities or parties. E.g. My missus likes Merkel, but voted FDP knowing they would maybe be in a coalition with Merkel.
