Expanding on the Sunday Lunch thread a bit. Ive just come back from PGR in Priory Place and though it was a bit pricey, and they didn’t let me apply my student discount to the whole bill :(, the food was good and the atmosphere was nice. Looking out onto the waterfall and the cathedral is good too. Got me thinking about the range of places Cov has.

Best place all round I’ve been is Rising Cafè at the back of the Cathedral, cheap, great 50s decor and lovely menu. All done for a good cause too.

Best Chinese delivery IMO is Jade Palace in Binley. Just how I like it, good portions, decent price.

So, what about you SBT? Where’s the best nosh in Cov? From chippies to posh dates, where do you recommend we stuff our faces?

Yeah, we've been to the Rising Cafe twice. We enjoyed it.

Wasn't so keen on the PGR, but then they did get our order wrong.

My wife likes the cafe in St.Mary's Guildhall. I haven't been for a while though.

Trying to get my family to go to the Korean restaurant next door to PGR, but they're not keen.

Not exactly elaborate cuisine but you can't go wrong with a pork batch from Piggy in the Middle.

Not living in the city but every time I come up for a game I make time to pop in there.

Beautiful food.

Cov is pretty poor to eat in. Generally head over to Kenilworth/Warwick. Wish we had some better choice.

There's lots of choice now CVD. Chinese, Indian, Italian, Korean, Japanese, Lebanese, Romanian, Polish, Greek, Turkish, Mexican.

there's choice and I like the diversity we now have after years of having only British pub grub,Indian or Chinese but I do question the quality. I'm no Egon Ronay so I could be wrong.

Heard good things about the Japanese and Korean places at Priory Place and also about the Lebanese restaurant if that helps.

Is it still? Couple of people have said it's gone downhill a bit recently in terms of service.

It's still on my list mind you!
Only been there once 2 weeks ago was top notch!
(Chris Stokes was there with his wife and Son as well)

Only downside is great location not a lot to do for kids!

Again outside of Cov for brunch- Hilltop Farm, fantastic menu & food!
Just one little moan on the vegetarian front having looked at the menu! ;)

I'm not one to moan or grumble and I never expect a place to have to cater for me. My choice and I live by my choice, so if there's nowt vegetarian I wouldn't moan, but simply wouldn't go. What DOES annoy me though is when something is purportedly vegetarian, but in fact is not.

Parmesan by definition is not vegetarian. To be called Parmesan it has to be made with calf rennet. So many times I see on a menu a dish with the little V emblem next to it, yet it's with parmesan. Maybe some restaurant owners don't know, but as sure as hell ALL chefs SHOULD know.

Don't see how you can list something as vegetarian when it clearly is not. Hilltop Farm has a vegetarian main that includes parmesan.

Sorry, rant over. Snub me, fine, I don't mind, it's my own lifestyle choice, but don't mislead people. If a dish said it was chicken breast and you found out it was actually processed chicken you wouldn't be happy would you!! ;)

Messed up my Christmas day dinner one year when I booked at a hotel and then found out the one and only 'vegetarian' main used parmesan cheese!!! Grrr!!!

Gone way downhill. Used to be quite nice once upon a time, but has gotten to be worse than average these past few years. There was 14 of us went for breakfast last year and not one person had anything positive to say about the food.

Yes I remember it being reasonable a few years back but if tonight is anything to go by it won't last long, to be fair they replaced my lads meal free of charge but the manager tried to insist the chicken just looked pink but was cooked, I'm 53 and I know what raw chicken looks like.
