Potential January Additions (5 Viewers)

We obviously could do with a couple of additions in January to push on and properly challenge for the top 7 after the new year.

But who could we be after? Anyone got any ideas who is/could be available and be a likely target?

I can't think of anyone baring some youth player on loan from a higher division club I won't have heard of.

As I just mentioned in another thread. My number one target would be George Thomas. He would be some coup in league two.

He would get fill nicely into that same wide position he played end of last year and get to box to box for 90 mins and importantly contribute with goals.

Yes loans is most viable option I'd say, I doubt there is much in the pot or movement to buy players given the SCMP rules and our home gates ain't that brilliant to give much more movement.
A bumper 3rd round fa cup tie v a top premier league club would help tho early in January fill that pot and give some flex

Failing that your gonna need to sell to buy, and I don't see what you can sell if JJ is crocked. Mcdonald has shone but is vital, Willis signed a extension to his deal so unlikely to be sold and I don't see cash offers for anyone else unless Stevenson rolls back the clock.

You could maybe free up a wage on Beavon, Vincenti or Kwame Thomas but they would need takers or paying up which defeats the idea of freeing up a wage.

So all hinges on loans or a fa cup run to me.

Another issue is the length of time the window is away... just under 6 weeks. I'm sure MR and TW had some post-it notes on the white board with potential names on but within the blink of an eye everything has likely changed if JJ is done.

It's quite tricky I'd imagine managing at this level on a budget especially if your hit some bad luck in your own key players where promotion is demanded as a minimum this season.

Or we can hope Maddison or Wilson or Both are sold. Potentially very big windfalls. Theres always that possibility the way Norwich are playing at the moment they cash in on prime asset to strengthen.

Anything received will go towards the future of the club or more likely fund it next year in Timbuktu

It's also frustrating that Jordan Turnbollcks is on a season long loan. I doubt Patrick will be coughing up a fee to take him permanently.

I'm be doubtful Kyle Reid would be able to attract a fee either with 6 months left on his deal. Maybe his permanent de registration would help more that his loan is.

Or get him back here I would never have let him go

Id have Kyel Reid back. Hes actually played well at Colchester with some assists and scored a few goals too. Who themselves are only few points behind us. So I guess if for nothing else I don't see why we would loan out to current potential rivals. Would make their squad weaker without Kyel Reid.

I'm going with my gut feeling your referring to Kyle Reid?
Depends how he parted with MR. Didn't have the desire to stay and fight for the club who got relegated and paid his wages so I'd not be so keen

Be a difficult one to call as like you say we don't want to help a rival, tho only issue there is there's about 16 rivals in this league!

Yep I would give him another go he is a bit different and has a lot of pace, turnbull would be fourth choice at best now

We need a right winger, maybe a bit galoot of a striker. Especially playing against teams set up to defend, you have to go with the law of averages and try and get the ball into the box as much as possible, difficult to play through them.

Personally I feel he's burned his bridges here the way he went about his summer exit plans and gentleman's agreement.

Turnbull would be 6th choice at best for me, Hyam and Stokes/Grimmer playing in that role are even ahead!

We need an Andreu type and another winger. Maybe two if Jones is out for a period (have we had an update?)

I'm not sure who we could add, but I'm pretty sure we'll have to sell to buy.
And we'll be selling our most valuable assets.
Jones, McDonald and Ponticelli would be top of any potential buyer's list.
Whether we can add more value than we lose is the big question.

Friend of mine, a NCFC season ticket holder, reckons Norwich are pretty useless at the moment, and that Maddison is the one shining light. Don’t think that Norwich will want to cash in, but they may not be able to hold onto him if someone big comes calling. May still be a bit early for that, and if it did happen, I’m not sure how quickly we would receive any sell on money

I think we are currently properly challenging for the top 7 in my opinion.
If we have no key players out in Jan, we only need one signing in to be properly challenging for third

I’d like to see us look at players like Dembele of Grimsby - one of the trickiest players we’ve come up against this season attacking wise. Or that no.4 who ran the show at the Ricoh sitting just in front of the back line (can’t remember his name or who he played for. Shit reporter, I know!). January maybe too soon for someone like him though since we already have Kelly and Doyle sitting deep.
That Rose fella we came up against last week for Mansfield did look dangerous so if Robins was interested before, I’d like to see us go after someone in a similar mound (doubt we could prise him away from Mansfield in January anyway)

The sad thing is that we now consider reaching the 3rd round of the FA Cup to be a 'run'.

Dembele was excellent that 1st 45 mins at Grimsby, a real handful. Danny Rose clearly had ability, reminded me of Leon Clarke in some respects in he was a horrible to play against but you'd love him in your team.

As for the number 4 of thingy.... unplayable! gonna need to give us more clues on him!

Was it Drissa Traore of Forest Green? Played the Kante role very well

George Thomas 90 minute box to box ? I'll have a pint of that please.
Do agree with sw88 tho demble would be a good signing.

I think we need another pacey winger and a goal scorer. We're solid all over the pitch but key area for improvement are a right footed left winger, if we could have both wings cutting in, dragging full backs all over the place, firing off shots etc, I think that makes us far more dangerous, and creates a bit more space for Haynes and Kelly to work in.

Would we loan him to a 4th tier club though?
If we rated him enough to buy him the I'd have thought we'd be looking to loan him to someone in at least the 3rd tier.

Yes, I knew I’d need to give a few more clues!

I’d have described his position as a Makelele position. Was short in stature but very effective.

Nick may recall him as I think we both mentioned in the match thread how he ran the game. Might have been forest green?

Yes Forest Green. I couldn't tell if he had bleached hair or a shiny head reflecting the flood lights.

I think it was Drissa Traoré, he just sat in front of the defence and everything went through him.
