Theres a certain irony that his Employers (who pay him a shit load) are partly responsible for the financial demise of clubs like the one he supposedly supports.

That may be true but he’s always seemed like a genuinely nice guy and a man of the people. His speech the other week on the honours system says a lot. It did cross my mind that he could probably stump up the cash to pay the bill but maybe he doesn’t trust those in charge. In fact I’d say that’s a certainty given his comments in the past.

It's everything wrong with football nowadays, I don't know too much about the circumstances but the fact is the future of a football club formed in 1908 is over a sum of money that somebody like Aguero gets in a week.

Sad isn't it. Brings it home.

This is the issue isn't it, if we were in trouble to that extent would you pay the money to SISU. Of course you wouldn't...

not entirely sure but Jeff is willing to find backers to be introduced as new owners so I would assume its the current owners debt. its probably the usual 'trace the bet trail' that comes with football clubs...

Didn't Darlington hit the wall not too long ago??

Yeah. They were getting very low crowds in that stadium and they were liquidated.

When you see the likes of Neymar on a reported £500,000 a week and Courtinho sold for £142 million its ridiculous no player alive or dead is ever worth that much, there should be a wage cap because if somebody cannot live on £50 grand a week theres something seriously wrong !!!

It's all relevant and filters down, wages filter to championship, league one and league 2. Only thing is the big tv money doesn't.

There will never be a wage cap. The premier league is the epitome of gluttony. Many clubs have mediocre players from around the world on bloated wages.

It won’t change other than get worse.

Agree 100%. Wage caps and FFP are completely pointless at the elite level. There are so many ways round it. If they can pay a player of max of say 50k due to the limit on squad wages they’ll just pay the wife 50k to work in the office for a few hours a week.

Even much lower down on the sports ladder I know of several EIHL players that were paid very little to play but were the highest paid skate sharpeners and kit launderers around! It meant the wage cap was unenforceable so the league didn’t bother enforcing it any more.

Then there’s sponsorship. That’s one easy way to generate “false” income.

Stelling is a Hartlepool fan and well off I imagine. But I recall Port Vale fan Robbie Williams saying he wouldn't financially help out his beloved team when they were in need of money. So just because a celebrity has money, don't mean they'll help out.

Yup. The best thing to do isn't to stop parachute payments and the like, but make a fairer distribution of TV income.

Of course, our club was one that voted to break away so there'd be a less fair distribution, so I guess we reaped what we sowed...
