Okay, let's keep this thread for all of them so we don't have to keep resetting the Mackem Laughometer.

I really think we need to start taking bets on how long Newcastle's cheap cousins take to create another Cov thread on their forum. Could you go to Ladbrookes and ask "Can I have a tenner on a new thread in 25 mins ?" :emoji_dollar:

Oops, too late... another one already Coventry

The <insert totally suitable descriptor> bunch of 'em have just been taken over by a new owner and it seems their forum is more interested in us than their version of our dream scenario :)

When you get 'I wasn't even born then, but I still hate them because of it,' then you know you are fighting a losing battle.

Seems like they can forgive the Germans for killing 6 million Jews, but can't forgive us for one single football match 40 years ago.

It's incredibly pathetic to be honest, as well as being completely laughable.

I agree with their OP saying it's just trendy to dislike us in recent years because we've played them before and it felt no different to say playing Watford or Bristol City. Will be interesting next season to see whether this internet hatred is replicated in the real world

That's one downside of the internet. The mock outrage it can incite and produce, until the stuff becomes almost like an urban legend.

No its obviously our fault "It’s coming from them more than us. Look on their forum ‘sky blues talk’ they have a venomous hatred of us and it was us they cheated back in 1977. They’ve just fallen off the footballing map so much that they are looking to latch onto any club to have a rivalry with. They didn’t even stand out as a big club in League 2." cocks

Couldn't care less about Sunderland, though that tweet did make me laugh.

Sunderland fan in the village congratulated us today on getting promoted, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't just the internet being the internet.

I don’t mind this manufacturing a rivalry bollocks tbf, looking down the teams next season there isn’t much that stands out...just a load of north west cesspools and South Yorkshire armpits.

There are over 100 Coventry threads on their forum and then some more in regards to jimmy hill .

It’s weird full stop , it’s like Coventry despising Liverpool for stopping us playing in Europe in 87/88 .
We don’t , because we are not fucking cavemen
They still hate the Germans for the war too.... although there does seem to be one or two supporters who have evolved. I really don't understand bitter people, what's the point. Been to SoL a few times and most fans seem decent, passionate supporters who were going through the same shite that we were and lets face it you only have your own team to blame for getting relegated.

Man, these people need to get a grip. That one game has no impact on their troubles as a sorry club for long enough that the normal person could care to remember...

Bitter fans, bitter club.

COVENTRY CITY'S LAST PROMOTION

Always found them a bit arrogant but saying that they have just been promoted to the promised land and getting linked to £40m players so they have a fair reason to be so
so in one thread....
1) the usual hatred against us which is funny
2) Our rivals are Forest?? really??
3) We are in West Mids/East Mids, Warwickshire - geography clearly not a strong point
4) We play hoof ball?? clearly watched us this season then?!

Does amaze me how people form opinions of other clubs based on absolutely nothing!

I recall the geographical dead centre of the Midlands is in the centre of Meriden. Thus, as Cov is east of that point, the city is in the East Midlands.

They'll walk League One with the parachute payments, so maybe they'll lighten up once their promoted again.

I was at the Bristol City game in May 1977, in fact it is the first game I really remember and the players were strolling around and just passing between themselves, similar to the Morecambe game. I think it is pretty bad, but every team would have done it.

I was at the Bristol city game too and I find it strange that they don’t direct the same vitriol towards them too. Alan Dicks was JHs assistant during the Div 2 days, so it’s fair to say that once we knew the score of the game at Everton the teams came to an agreement. It was 2-0 if I remember right..... Sunderland should have played better.

For the last 10- 15 mins they did, but it was a "proper" game of football before then.

Anyway, the Police delayed the ko, not JH, so why didn't the league delay their game, or the Merseyside police for that matter as Goodison had the same crowd issues.

As you say, Bristol City were just a culpable at the end of the game.

What was wrong was the Sunderland result being announced and flashed on the scoreboard - a bit more subtlety would have been in order in getting messages out to the players - which would have ended up with the same passing around each other scenario.anyway. Then again, JH wasn't renowned for the tactful, subtle approach.

Most Mackems I have met seem ok, although it has been mentioned, but not in a hostile way.

They do seem to be melowing a bit in their old age.
Some even say they like us, how dare they.
They think they have won the league already because they are mighty Sunderland, last season you could have played spot the supporter in their home games.
I dislike them for the only reason we get blamed for almost everything that goes wrong at their club.
Football you wee Mackems is played over 42 games back in the days you blame us for,not one, i think they blame us for a relegation in the nineties as well so the same applies but over slightly fewer games

Can’t help but think we’re very similar as a city to Sunderland. Largely working class white males, passionate, and have lived in the shadow of a nearby team for far too long.

Anyway, fuck um
