anyone know roughly how we think MR get in transfer budget?

Well, if we were in for that Woodyard, who’s gone for a fee of £225k, you’d imagine we have at least about 150-200k to spend on a player. Presumably not including wages, and the fact we need more than one signing. Perhaps there’s a significant kitty.

Maybe Joy enjoyed Monday so much she’s holding off on expanding the handbag collection and betting it all on another promotion push?

A man can dream.

I feel we need to go for a real marquee signing that will send a message out to the rest of the league that we’re not here simply to make up the numbers. Once players see that Robins means business, it will hopefully have a snowball effect and more players that are decent at league one level will join. The budget seems to be quite healthy from what Robins has said so hopefully we can attract some big names.

I think we’re jumping the gun a bit here, let’s go up and get 50+ points and see what happens then talk of anything more than safety firstly is a bit much.

Reality is we’d be lucky to break into the top 12.

Disagree entirely. Outside of one or two clubs at the top end most success in L1 and L2 is down to momentum. Players and tactics aren’t great and chutzpah counts for a lot. Back to back promotions aren’t unheard of and I’d back us to finish top 8 given a fair budget and a decent injury free run.

Sunderland
Barnsley
Pompey
Charlton
Bradford
Luton
Peterborough
Doncaster

Plus always a few surprises in league one. I’d be very happy with a top half finish.

I agree momentum is a massive thing to take forwards and a great team spirit which we have in abundance but seasons are long and hard.

Personally I don’t see it, obviously love it but let’s see what the summer brings

Marquee signings are showboating - who cares what people think. Results matter
Armstrong was a loanee who failed at Barnsley, altho has done ok at Blackburn. Bit of a one-hit wonder.

I find the rhetoric at the club very interesting right now. Players, managers and owners (via Fisher) have all spoke about ‘going for it’ in relation to back-to-back promotions. Indeed, rhetoric is one thing, but it’s all uniform. It goes away from the typical goal of ‘just staying up, then kicking on’...

If we’re in for similar players as P’boro, that’s possibly a good sign. We’ll see in the coming weeks.

A positive way to look at it is MR said he’d spoke to some targets I think, if they or other players had of watched our play off games and seen the quality we already have, the way MR likes his team to play, add that with the team spirit it’s a great draw to any player who might be on our radar.

Positive times indeed and I keep saying it’s the strongest we’ve gone into a summer looking to boost the ranks.

Agreed, 100%.

To add on to this, players like Jones, Bayliss, McNulty can definitely make the grade at L1 and likely get into most, of not all, teams in L1.

Others like; Kelly, JCH, Doyle, Grimmer, Stokes, Willis and maybe even Burge have all made the grade to an extent at L1. Shipley I’m convinced can make the grade, Andreu was wanted by Oxford too, for whatever that’s worth. So our squad is L1 ready, but that just means we probably won’t get relegated.

If our aspirations are top 6, we need to get it right this summer.

Having watched Rotherham v Shrewsbury the third and fourth highest in division 1 I have no qualms whatsoever our eleven who started Monday plus fit again Jones and Andrue, plus, Davies and JCH added to the squad plus any newbies we can’t compete at the business end of the division. And let’s not forget there’s the loan market too

Disagree regarding making a marquee signing, that costs money which we ain't got. Our recruitment last summer was very encouraging and believe MR will go down the same route.

According to a Northampton Town supporting mate of mine we’re after John Joe O’Toole. Which he’s not happy about as he’s their best player according to him.
Made 28 appearances for Northampton this season so presumably spent some part of the season injured. Still managed to score 6 though.

Joe Cole was a marquee signing, that didn't work out too well for us. We need 2 full backs, left and right. A left winger, a striker who scores regularly and a back up/first choice keeper. Oh and a younger Michael Doyle, he won't keep going forever.

Hes a attack minded midfielder with a eye for goal and still only 29.
I’d like this deal to happen. Will need a hair cut tho.

I believe JFH dropped a lot of their first team players during his time there favouring his own signings in January. Not sure if O’Toole fell victim of that or not.

I think he ‘failed’ at Barnsley because of where he was playing!

And as for Blackburn, I think he did more than OK, and is hardly a one hit wonder.

Just got a call up to the U21’s too so seems to be doing well for himself

Who mentioned the cloggers of L2?

Agree a prediction is a stab in the dark at this point, let’s see what the squad is like in 8/9 weeks.

Personally I dont see Bayliss still in a sky blue shirt unfortunately.

if bayliss is sold rather than flat out force a move i would be inclined to think sisu aint changed much

now is the time, we have to go for back to back promotions, once your in the championship anything is possible

Apparently we have signed Reise Allassani from Dulwich Hamlet - . It's from a verified journalist and I don't think they would make up rumours at lower league level! Would probably be a development player at first but could be a non-league gem after reading the article from January.

Just think it’s a case of Peterborough having more money to spend. Woodyard turned down Ipswich to join them apparently so they must have offered a very decent wage

More likely Ipswich didn't offer him a great deal as he was likely to on the fringes of their first team.

Unless someone offers us a great deal then Bayliss stays

I’m optimistic we’ll keep him, and we’ve given ourselves the best opportunity of keeping him (and other key players) at the club.

There’s a buzz around the club and with a good young side, which is presumably fearless given the bottle they had in the playoffs... We could possibly do well in L1. All the promoted teams from last season did well, only Donny were in the bottom half, whilst Plymouth and Portsmouth narrowly missed on playoffs themselves!

Again, we need add the right pieces to the squad and increase depth because I think we’d have struggled a bit more with the injuries we had this season if we were in L1.
