This ones causing some debate and mixed responses so thought I’d give it its own thread so not to clog up the other threads.

I’ve suggested on the other’s (January window - McNulty ) that Leon Clarke could be a tempting loan and possibly become available this month given Sheff Utd have completed the signing Gary Madine today on loan from Cardiff.
They now have Billy Sharpe, David McGoldrick, Gary Madine, Connor Washington on the books with Leon Clarke too.

I’m not always a fan of returning players but this one is different to what we have, has benefits bringing experience, goals, a focal point and able to link up play.... should we still make the necessary improvements in midfield to offer balance and service obviously.

Did his transfer request to push through a move to wolves leave a bad taste, he’s the ideal loan this January or is he simply not for you and prefer another option or no strikers required.

Im interested in what the thoughts are of a loan, should we be interested and ask the question?

Looking purely on game time, I would think Connor Washington is the most likely to be sent out on loan.

Washington 4 starts 9 subs 0 goals 1 assist
Clarke 12 starts 13 subs 3 goals 3 assists.

I'm not sure on Clarke. He threw his mardy refusing to play to force through the wolves transfer which I'm not sure I can forgive.

Clarke is the best striker we've had in the last 15 years.

He is severely underrated because Wilson was golden boy and how he left us in such a bad way.

Whilst I don't doubt he was one of our best, surely Marlon King would be the best we've had in 15 years, I'd also say McGoldrick was better at the time. Although I will say Leon Clarke's record for us was phenomenal.

I would say that McGoldrick and Armstrong were better players than Clarke. I think King was the better all round player and played for us at a higher level. That said, I would sooner have had Jutkiewiez than King as he was far more of a team player and his attitude was spot on despite not being a prolific goal scorer.

It’s probably not a runner, but I would have Clarke back, he’s proven at this level, would score goals and bring on players around him.

That’s where a loan covering a agreed percentage both clubs are happy with and what Sheff Utd’s plans are with him long term come into it on what’s achievable.

We like them will need to meet FFP rules.

I agree, but i was suggesting that looking at the game time, that would probably leave Clarke as 4th choice and Washington as 5th. I'd Think if any Washington would be the one to go out on loan. They won't get rid if both and leave themselves short.

Think he is retired now isnt he? Got sent down again but will be back out now

Two things-his injury record is pretty appalling and he ain’t getting any younger.

He is the sort of player that needs a manager to put an arm around his shoulder and encourage him-is Robins honestly this type?

Like comparing Willis to Bobby Moore!

Armstrong is a very good player and far too good for League one (even at 18/19!).

I think he’s found his level with Blackburn though.

I think clark would be a fantastic loan for us and make the difference but I just cant see it happening.

I was at the game and that tackle was right in front of my dad and me. One of the worst tackles Ive seen and the ref that day was disgusting not to mention their team

I think people are forgetting how good David McGoldrick was for us in that first season in league one. Scored some screamers, team goals, chips. One of my favourite all time cov goals was when he lobbed the keeper away at Stevenage. A sensational finish to round off a huge 3-1 win to put us right in the promotion mix. Such a shame he left

I’ll forgive and forget if he bangs in a few goals. I’m sure he supported Wolves too and in his position, I’d do what I could to get a move to Cov!

I’m doubtful we’ll be in a position to sign him in any capacity either way.

For me, it’s a toss up between Callum Wilson and McGoldrick. I’d edge toward Wilson, especially because I wrote him off the season before his breakthrough.

Clarke was quality. Wilson and Clarke were fantastic together. Clarke as the target man still got loads of goals as well as setting Wilson up for loads too. I fear he's too old now as he's 34 soon and always a bit prone to the odd injury, its not a good mix.
