Broad left out of the first test.

10 thousand england fans in the ground why am I in Nuneaton.

The duke ball is doing a bit already in Anderson’s hand.

New ball taken 10 overs tonight for the Windies to see off and it’ll have been a very comfortable day for them!

England need to get them 6 down at least!

No follow on?

Why would they? Bat England out the game get 200 here you have a lead of 400+
To be honest Windies get 120 here they’ll be 330 ahead and that will be enough.

You don’t want to be batting last on this wicket!

They’ve gone from 52-0 to 61-4 now

Been coming for a while. You need 1 or 2 batsmen that can grind out an innings at the top of the order.
Jennings struggle against pace - shocker:)
Not sure how anyone thinks Curran is good enough to open bowling in Barbados. Didn't even bowl 20 overs in Sri Lanka series?

I feel for Curran he’s not an opener (yet) a yard or 2 more of pace and Ryan Sidebottom (the English not Aussie one) swing and he may be do a job he should be 3rd or 4th seamer, he deserves his place on the back of his performances so far, the error was playing Rashid (I’d still have Leach ahead of him imo as 2nd choice) but the batting is the fragile area yet again.

Jennings unable to face pace, shock! There should be no shame in England saying in the cub continent you play, anywhere else you don’t.
Also Foakes should be at 7 Ali 8.
This line up could easily smash 400-4 in a day or be 77 all out think it’s the risk England will have to take for the foreseeable future.

But they need an opener ASAP.

All the talk about Broad is annoying as he wouldn't have made any difference really. If you can only muster 77 in your 1st innings what chance do the bowlers have? I do agree that it would be Rashid to drop out rather than Curran. Looks what's happened on the last 2 occasions Curran was missing.

I think the toss is being overlooked. England are in good form and have won the toss on the last 8 occasions - no coincidence. If England had won the toss, they'd have batted first and it'd be them with a 300+ lead at this stage. Supposedly the pitch slows down on days 4-5 and is suited to spin, sadly we won't be seeing day 4 or 5.

I still have a feeling that we could knock the runs off 2nd innings. It will slow down and flatten out a bit more. If we can get them out cheaply today we'll have plenty of time to get the runs.

Not knocking Curran per see just not right to open the bowling in these conditions.
Wasn't picked for his bowling in Sri Lanka.
Except where conditions are bang on he is destined to be 3rd/4th bowler. His coaches have said since he was at school it's his batting that will develop more.
But when the home side are going with 4 quicks you have to question the thought process of thinking you're smarter than them and picking the extra spinner.
Sri Lanka won there last year and think only 2 wickets went to spin all match.

If it is about strengthening the batting then you leave out Broad but if you want to do it while keeping the bowling side strong you pick Woakes as he is better with the ball than Curran and about par with the bat.

Woakes is unlucky to miss out as well.

Annoying we have so many decent seam all rounders but can only fit 2 in, we play 3 keepers who are all handy with the bat but have 0 (at the minute) Test standard openers!

I read a stat that over the last 10 I think tests at this ground seam aves 19 runs per wicket and spin 42.....

England have had a mare in that respect with the selection!

Woakes injuries stopping him from building a run in the side.
Improving his pace whilst looking a more than decent bat.

Need to stop worrying about strengthening lower order and sort out openers.
Road to nowhere when you're picking bowlers because they might get some runs at 8 or 9 rather than how many wickets they might take.

One of the reasons that teams keep losing when touring is poor preparation you need to play more games than a bat all day game
People been saying this for years.
What is England's record in 1st Tests in away series?
Top order caught cold in Sri Lanka until tail bailed them out. Series could have gone anywhere if tail had folded too

Could woakes do any worse as an opener? At least you'd have his bowling ability on top.

Full credit to West Indies, they bowled brilliantly yesterday. Apart from Moeen and Jennings, the dismissals were either unlucky (Burns, Bairstow) or genuinely decent balls. Said it before the series, Roach/Gabriel/Holder at home is one of the best attacks in test game right now.

Yeah, I'm with you.

I think there's an excellent chance of England scoring nearly 500 runs in the final innings to take the game.

Piece of cake.
