Last week was a nice taste but now I'm convinced. We have to go all out for an experienced keeper in the summer. He doesn't have to make saves when he marshals his defence so well. No coincidence we look so much better as a whole with him. It's going to be depressing when Burge is back.
Exactly. It wasn't about last gasp saves as he has everybody organised knowing what he wants them to do

He created the chance for Thomas with a pin point ball to Baka. It was great to watch

Stockdale has done well. Nothing that justifies the praise he is getting.
Rochdale and Walsall are the worst teams we have played this season and have offered little.
Get behind Burge now.

Done well again today.
People can say he hasn't had to do anything, he had 1 shot to save etc etc.
That's where it proves what he's done is effective. Take for example the 4 or 5 crosses/free kicks he plucked out of the air. Made it look simple and it IMMEDIATELY took away pressure and stopped a chance. The 1st 1 he took was on the edge of his 18yard box. Had it of been Burge in goal, he'd of been on his line, the cross would of been a roulette as to who headed it and whether or not it would of turned into a chance at goal for Walsall.
Say he had "Nothing to do" all you like, by just doing the basics right, he immediately has a lot less to do and makes an average Walsall attack look poor.
People on here saying how poor Walsall were at attacking, THEYVE BEAT US TWICE THIS SEASON. They can't be that shit. Just had everything decent going forward broken up by a keeper clearly a class above everyone else

That's the thing, it's the same as that Hyam when he has a good game doesn't have much to do (or it doesn't look like it) as he isn't making last ditch tackles as he has read the game.

It makes a massive difference for us.

Two clean sheets with Stockdale in goal. The defence dont look like conceding, no panick clearencies and every ball that came in from set piecs was claimed by him.

As others have said he does the basics very well and gives the team confidence to push out.
The problem is we have been that use to Burge and previous keepers like RCc not doing the basics and flapping at crosses we have forgoton what a good keeper is

No, the problem is, this time next week he'll be back at Birmingham and we'll have Burge back in goal just in time to play free scoring league leaders Luton Town.

We've played two dreadful teams tbf. Not denying Stockdale is clearly of superior pedigree to Burge but he's had nothing much to do

Yes he didnt have a lot to do but look at what happens when Burge dont have a lot to do ....

I think that’s slightly dramatic. I’m no fan of Burge whatsoever but it’s not like he makes a mistake every game. Saying that I’m keen for a replacement to come in but I think we’d do very well to get a keeper of Stockdale’s pedigree in the summer

Stockdale is a better keeper. Simple as that. Could be a good addition in the summer if he’s willing to drop pay to play week in, week out.

He did well again today, all be it against a shit Walsall side. I hope we can keep him for another week, I feel he will be a lot busier against Luton.
But it does show how much we need an experienced keeper.

I’ve nothing against Burge, and to be fair Stockdale hasn’t had a lot to test him, but everything he did oozed confidence I think. Like when he dinked the ball up to the centre circle, or when he claimed the high balls and got them out quickly.

But this is the difference between league 1/2 keepers and champ/prem class.
It’s like when we went from having Scott shearer to Luke Steele, but then the season after we had Stephen Bywater and then Marton Fulop on loan. Different class altogether

Not dramatic...fact ! although at times this season he has looked decent but the fact remains Stockdale has shown us what a decent keeper is like for us again, Man City recognised that fact and obviously paid money for Ederson that we could only dream of that seems to have worked so far.
Burge always has and always will scare the life out of me for crosses etc so thanks Lee good luck for the future time to move on or we all sentimental like we are for Oggy who in my opinion played a few seasons too much for us

The issue is though, and as I’ve said in my post, we need to be realistic when it comes to the quality of GK we can bring in, in the summer. It’s clear Stockdale is Championship quality and would have little trouble finding another club at that level if Birmingham does deem him to be surplus to requirements so IMO there’s little chance of signing him, especially with his wages being well beyond our means. So the question remains who else is there that’s going to be AS good who fits within our budget?

I think we’ve settled with the GK for a number of seasons so I’m sure everyone would like to see some investment in this position next season but realistically MR either needs to do some serious scouting in this department or needs to put aside a fair proportion of the budget to invest in a new No.1. But given the amount of players that could potentially need to be brought in during the summer I doubt that would happen if I’m honest. So again, it’s easy to say Stockdale is the type of GK we need but the reality of bringing in someone of a similar quality is far easier said than done!

Its not dramatic at all. Wake up. Doing thr basics makes a huge difference wether u have alot to do or not

Burge didnt have much to do vs walsall when 1 up with 1 min or normal time left but he fucjed it

Lets not pretend basics is nothing important

Reality is over the last few seasons our keepers have cost us a good few points , if you had a stockdale in goal you would be talking about how many extra points you can gain through organisation and sheer ability .

Lad is on another planet to anything we’ve seen here for a good few years

2 clean sheets and barely any threat is partly down to him organising and commanding .

To be realistic which other teams in our league would want burge as no 1. Maybe an 4/5 Stockdale has just highlighted his lack of ability. He will never sustain a 1st team place above this league anywhere

Laughable that there was mentioned somewhere on here that people thought Burge could go on and play in the Championship!

I’d go as far as saying that some people still do. I’m fairly sure someone even said they’d rather have him over Westwood the other week :emoji_hear_no_evil:

If Stockdale is 4th choice at blues, what chance does Burge have???
Only way I see him going to a Championship club is if maybe an Ipswich or a Rotherham are preparing for relegation and are offloading there high wage chpionship keeper in place of a lesser wage L1 keeper.

Not sure what Riyadh was watching or maybe it’s something you pick up from being in the stadium, but one thing is clear. When the ball was put into the box within the stadium there was absolutely no doubt or anxiety that Stockdale was making it his. EVERY time that same ball goes into our box with Burge in goal I think we’ve conceded. The bloke oozed confidence and class. Whether that’s a compliment of Stockdale or a realisation of what we have Burge, it’s not for me to decide.
