Got to love a player who has his own logo as well....

it really is bizarre how quiet and timid burge is. You don’t need to be paid “40k a week” to be able to demonstrate basic communication techniques with your team.

Think it’s time for a change in summer on goalkeeping front. Stockdale has communicated with the defence more in his 2 appearances (instilling confidence and calmness) than burge has his entire career here

I think that’s just his character though. He seems a fairly quiet person off the pitch as well as on it. Unfortunately confidence isn’t really something that can be taught, it can be improved, but if it doesn’t come naturally then realistically it won’t ever be fully there. I think this is Burge’s issue. His lack of confidence and brashness reflects in his communication (or lack there of) with his back line.

To be fair G his shot stopping is his only good attribute

Westwood? I think not. Old mucca has already claimed that Stockdale has been a premier league keeper most of his career. He’s played 40 games

Calling Burge a ‘cheaper’ version of Westwood is hardly a compliment in my book. To call someone a ‘pound shop’ version of something is usually more of an insult. They are of simila archetypes.

Yeah, I got Stockdale’s career past wrong, but the pertinent point was that Stockdale has been playing at a far higher standard than Burge. And about 180 games at Prem and Championship level reflects that. If you want to nit pick, fine...

Always an excuse for a poor keeper when the old “a good shot stopper” gets thrown around. In reality it’s only a third of the makeup that is required with the others being kicking/distributing and commanding you box/area. Also as we have seen recently, good communication is also required.
I’m afraid Burge May be “a good shot stopper” but is sadly lacking in all the other departments required to be a half decent keeper.

Westwood has played 200 games at those levels

I never said he was good all round but G was quoting someone praising his shot stopping. Fair is fair, 2/3 of his game is shite but not that part

Burge will be assessed when the squad return to training on Tuesday, it would be nice to have Stockdale in goal for at least one more game.

Burge is on a hiding to nothing if he does come back for the next game. Having missed 2 games against dire opposition where Stockdale gave a masterclass in all the areas Burge lacks, he now gets to come back in for Luton - unbeaten at home, averaging 2.56 goals per game and scoring at least twice in 13 of their 16 home matches.

This is true. He's probably going to have to have the game of his life to avoid criticism

Is there any Ice Hockey on tonight that we can buy Burge a ticket for. Get him concussion tonight with a puck to the head before his assessment tomorrow.

Losing Stockdale will be a huge blow if he goes back this week. Burge coming back from an injury to face freescoring Luton doesn't fill me with confidence!

surely if he's missed two weeks he's not match fit, probably wont have trained, that must put us at a disadvantage? Keep Stockdale another week MR, other teams benefit from this rule so why don't we take advantage of it.

For what it’s worth.

Stockdale has been excellent in 2 games. Admittedly 2 games in which we have absolutely dominated. As others have pointed out he is a proven keeper at higher levels and on big wages.

On the other hand, it’s pretty sickening that this thread has now focused on such very harsh criticism of Burge. Even to the point of: ‘yes he’s a great shot stopper but that’s because his overall keeping is crap.’ That is totally ridiculous. He’s a brilliant shot stopper full stop. I also cannot recall Burge dropping many crosses this year. I do recall Burge being totally outstanding in our biggest games last season and a very decent keeper at this level. Our problems this season are not down to Burge - our problems are down to not replacing McNulty and some major signings misfiring.

Is Burge as good as Stockdale? I would say he’s not from what I have seen. But is such criticism harsh and over the top. In my opinion it’s both.

Yup, and the worst kind are the ones who misspell knob and can't take a joke.

More than got the joke Patsy and probably unfair to pick on you alone.

Just pissed off with this thread in general.

Wishing for any of our players to remain injured combined with such harsh criticism seems very unjust to me. Without Burge we would not have won the semis vs. County and we would not be in this division. He deserves far better treatment and respect from a number of our fans.

I do get the point you were joking but not everyone in this thread is.

He is still only 26 too. I'm not saying he'll become a top top keeper as some of the guys at the highest level are even younger than him, but he will improve with age as all keepers do. Probably 5 years away from his peak yet.

It would be a shame to have gone through the howlers and not have the benefit of his best years, although unfortunately as is often the case with our fans, they're unforgiving and have already made up their minds. If he had 20 good games in a row then makes an error there will be calls of same old Burge flapping again.

He probably needs to move on to get a fresh start where he's appreciated and I think he'll prosper. What we don't need to happen is that Addai or another young untested cheap keeper is his replacement.

We will probably get the news we have all been dreading soon "The bad news is Lee Burge will be out for sometime with a shoulder injury" "The good news is that LOB is back in full training"

Watch the second leg again - he was outstanding.
He had a good game that day granted, But look at the bigger picture
•We were in a league inferior to the one we currently play in.
•Notts County were (and maybe still are) on a downward spiral.
•Good game or not, we were scoring goals at the other end which relieved pressure on him.

I don't think sentiment will get us promotion next season, and I don't think sentiment works both ways as he STILL hasn't signed a new contract.

If we want to get promotion next season then I think an experienced keeper is a must.

Mate, Burge is shit, he dont want to be here, I couldn't give a fuck if he gets a puck in the face. I'd probably laugh

If Burge wont be here next season as he hasn't signed a new contract, do you really think he's gonna go for a ball that might get him injured? I rather think it will be "fuck this" I'm not doing that, and who could blame him. Can't see us getting 100% from him this close to the end of his time
