I was wondering if OSB58 could shed any light on this as i was under the impression that sisu could use the tax losses for their own benefit. This states only the club can benefit from these losses, how so ?

"There have been some myths about tax losses, and SISU would like to clarify that only the Club can ever benefit from the tax losses it has generated in the past."

The trading losses of otium can be offset against profits in the future of otium. They could also be used to relieve taxable profits of sbsl under certain circumstances.

There are however large capital losses that could be generated in arvo and sbs&l if otium went bust which might be able to relieve taxable gains in those entities.

If sbs&l goes bust then there could be losses available to the investment fund.

I find it curious they mention the losses at all and when they do focus only on the trading losses of otium.

Obviously it has to be within their powers and legal. That's why they need to say "we will do what is within our power where we can".

Have sisu even asked for cash? That's why they need to discuss it between them surely?

I’m saying that cash of pretty much all they can ask for. AFAIK the only element of planning policy the council could put up is the local plan showing certain lamdnos earmarked for certain developments that aren’t stadia.

Any stadium would need infrastructure. You’re sticking up to 20k people in a confined location every other Saturday. Often pissed up and angry people. Traffic, police, environmental policy, will all have to be taken into account and paid for by someone.

At the end of the day, Sisu went further than they are right now years ago with the badgers in fields and artists impressions and fans forums. They’d have a much stronger case if they’d said “here’s a fully formed stadium plan, we have fan backing and we are having X problem getting it off the ground. The council can help by Y, and we call on them publicly to do so.

I need to be clear here. And this is why I’m asking for a clear accusation from you with proof before I go past it being a conspiracy theory.

Has *what* been proven *how*?

Well the Trust and those around have been involved with the various thing likes Haskell, Hoffman etc. The various plotting and scheming that has gone on over the years (remember going on live TV calling for Administration?).

It was only a few weeks ago David Johnson let slip about a "new club" being able to play at the Ricoh. Was he making it up or had it been discussed?

Did anybody ever say who from "supporters direct" was working with Weber Shandwick on a PR campaign or did it go quiet as usual?

That's the thing, it all depends on their "definition" of "reasonable".

It would do no harm for the council to say "we want what's best for ccfc, come and see us on monday and we will see what we can do".

Nobody is saying "the council must build SISU a stadium", far from it. That would be silly.

The council have previously said they can do various things if the legals are dropped, SISU are saying they will drop the legals if there's a bit of support. Surely pressure them into discussing it further for the best for CCFC? If nothing comes of it, we are no worse than we are now. If a bit of a better relationship comes from it, it's a bonus.

It has put the ball in the council's court. Their response will be interesting, will it be an actual "meaningful" statement or just rolling out some PR to say "it's all SISU?"

The council needs to agree, but really not sure what they can do.

I haven’t read the local plan, but I’d expect housing to take up a lot of any development space that size. Would they be asked to nix a housing development for a third local stadium in the middle of a housing crisis?

Would they offer land? The council generally offers long leases rather than sell freeholds, are they asking for another tenant/landlord situation? Really?

As has been said they can’t offer changes to planning law. Infrastructure work maybe? That’s the most likely thing I can see. In the middle of austerity asking for cash to help a hedge fund is a tough sell.
Apparently when they were looking last time they failed to find any appropriate land are they hoping some has now miraculously appeared.

Maybe they could buy the old council house off Cov uni now that would be a fitting place for a new ground.

Is there enough demand for a second stadium in the city? For concerts and events to generate revenue? It stinks not owning the Ricoh

What olive branch? She offered to drop the legals if the council help her do something she can do anyway and if she can get an interim deal at the Ricoh which we already know is possible if she drops the legals? Are you really not seeing what an empty load of nonsense this is?
Struth...given our interactions on another thread...I never thought I'd agree with you on very much - but hats-off to you.

She does she needs a deal at the Ricoh until she can get a job lot of bricks on the cheap;)

I still don’t think there is a real intention to build a stadium - they want to wait it out as they feel Wasps will implode and leave.

However as I said earlier, if we get a long term deal at the Ricoh that is right for CCFC... I don’t see why any of the other stuff is relevant or that important to CCFC fans.

Yeah but that was Plan A 1:5 Now we’re on plan A 3:6 there’s bound to be enough ground somewhere. Maybe they could get the old generic artist impression, err, sorry I mean comprehensive stadium plans from plan 1:4 out and present the to the council and call their bluff ;)

I agree, this is all a strategy to get a longer term rent deal (no bad thing).
Not a chance in hell of SISU having any intention of building another stadium.

Exactly - we’re all thinking (and nearly all praying) that Wasps are fucked and may leave. They can’t come out and say that yet they think the same. If the new stadium line gets a deal done and some notion that ‘everyone helped everyone’ then who cares?

Then just sit back and wait for the stripy bastards disappear back down the M1.

It's OK, the council PR team are on it ;)

The Telegraph asked Nigel Clews, assistant director of property and asset management at Coventry City Council, why they had tried to insert the clause at that time.

He said: “No, it doesn’t look good. But we were trying to flush out details. We wanted to bring the issue out.

“Media reports had circulated that there could be a potential ground share with Coventry City. But Mr Sharp had previously told us during meetings that this was out of the question.

“A few months later we received a three-year plan for Butts Park Arena that included a ground share with Coventry City.”

Nobody has agendas though, do they schmeee? One is an ex council leader and ex trust board member, one is an employee of the council with multiple accounts and trust board member. Strange they both seem to be intent on misleading people ;)

Why? It's embarrassing at best.

I agree and I hope that strategy is indeed correct.

We need a long term deal at the Ricoh, but obviously a medium one for now would be a great start.

I still think Joy getting married to Eastwood is the best idea. I wonder, does the secretary of state have the power to marry people ?

Just my opinion...

ABSOLUE F*KIN BULLS**T

Have we learned nothing in the past ten plus years? Why are we even contemplating that SISU have any intention of building a new stadium?

£50M they reckon they've spent (despite that "expert" saying it was £90M a while back???) and they're going to spunk another god knows how much on a new ground??? Years of absolute tripe from Sepella, Fisher, the whole rotton core of them.

A clear ploy to deflect any blame - blinker the EFL to hold off punishment and allow us to play in Nuneaton or some other footballing backwater while they pretend to dig around looking for fantasy lego bricks to build a new shed for us to play in - while continuing to try and bleed the opposition into submission.

Lets say the EFL, Wasps and the council play along, as they are supposed to do. SISU say they drop the legals. CCFC get a long, cheap rent deal. Six months down the line, SISU say the council aren't helping them find a ground, we're back to court.

Sorry just got in after a particularly bad day, so probably not being balanced. However, on the other side of the coin, the council are a bunch of c***s too.

To be honest if their ‘offer’ is enough to get a medium/long term deal at the Ricoh - then what follows is irrespective. I don’t really care if SISU want to play a long game and wait and see if Wasps bugger off, as long as we have a place to play sorted. And I can’t see why proper CCFC fans would care either.

The loyalty/pandering to Wasps is baffling, and quite frankly pathetic.
I’d agree with this but for that to happen surely Sisu have to give up on the legal action.

So surely if that scenario works people can shout at the council? Likewise if sisu pretend they will drop the legals but don't.

The council have offered to do things if the legals are dropped, the offer is then there to do so.

Get them in a room, tell them to sort it one way or another.

If it means a bit of a better relationship, long term at the Ricoh or something then it's a bonus. If nothing comes of it, we can see even more who doesn't want to help ccfc..

Isn't that what they are saying they will do?

"Drop the legals" won't work as a reply from the council now surely, as the discussion starter is there.

Nobody has to fall for anything. What do we lose by pushing the council to go with this?

If it's bollocks it will quickly unravel and SISU will look even more ridiculous than they usually do.

In the unlikely event it isn't bollocks we might finally move things forward.

Its a no lose situation.

Don’t be so rational Chief, I don’t think a lot of people can handle it.

This statement from SISU is actually a great way to open the negotiations at Westminster. The Council can hardly be seen to say no to what amounts to a reasonable request.

Absolutely bang on and I think that’s the most important aspect of the Statement, it’s got to take someone at Westminster to fixate on that request to ensure negotiations are opened and concluded swiftly.

I wonder what the small print would be on SISU’s “olive branch “? Would they be expecting everyone to settle their own legal costs for instance?

You have the council saying drop the legals and build a relationship, you have sisu now saying they are willing.

Find the middle ground.

Do we honestly believe for a single second that Sisu have any intention whatsoever of building a new stadium?

Why on earth would we believe that? After all these years of false promises and bullshit.

This. End of discussion. Folks need to get a f*cking grip and stop being desperate for a hedge fund to cling on to the club. Honest to f*cking God.

Surely that's why discussions should start to find out? There probably will be lots of nonsense from both sides involved.
