Job losses?

Is that the same job losses we were told that would happen straight after a leave vote that has led to the highest employment numbers the UK has ever had?

Keep your Mart facts to the Mart's facts thread.

No it is the ones happening now.

Fantastic news folks.......Tommy is running to be an MEP in the North west...

Another one happy that the EU is more democratic than the UK. PR allows people like yourself to have more say. I disagree with most of what you say, but accept your, and Tommy‘s right to a voice. Would be ironic if Brexit takes away his candidacy.

What makes you think that the criminal thug doesn't have the right to stand as an MP or Councillor? And when was his voice taken away, exactly?

I'm all for free speech, but when it's clearly designed to provoke hatred and violence then it should be challenged, and if against the laws of the land, prosecuted. Read the article linked to above, and see how Mr Robinson feels about free speech.

Is it ok for him and his mates to turn up at night at your home if you're a journalist who writes something they don't agree with, for instance?

the criminal thug
As an aside, and I ask purely as a technicality, I'd always thought criminal convictions above a certain level of 'seriousness' disbarred you from running in elections. Am I wrong in that?

I can't see him getting many votes. UKIP achieved 18% of the vote in a 2014 by-election in Wythenshawe & Sale East, this share fell to 14.7% in 2015 GE and just 3% of the vote by the 2017 GE.

Not sure as an MEP but IIRC to stand as a councillor you can’t have served a prison sentence in the previous five years to you standing.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Yaxley isn’t eligible and then will cry wolf when he can’t stand with some they’re trying to silence me nonsense that his sheep will lap up.

(Edit) Just looking and can’t see anything specific as an MEP and anything I have read seems to refer back to the local rules for an MP in the country you’re standing (which surprised me because I thought that the EU was a dictatorship that we have no say in). It seems that the rules regarding MP’s is more relaxed than councillors in that so long as you’re serving no longer than a year you can run for election as an MP, even if you’re still currently in prison (which I guess explains how Bobby Sands was an elected MP at the same time as being incarcerated) so long as your conviction isn’t electoral fraud. So basically yes, I think he can run as an MEP with his criminal record.

I think the thing worth bearing in mind when considering the drop in vote share is that as of 2017 UKIP had ‘achieved its sole aim’ and was defunct. Due to the way this has been handled over the following 18-24 months, there’s the same resentment brewing again and I’d expect an uplift closer to their 2014 share.

Are there certain convictions that would bar you for life?

I don’t think so - in fact I don’t even think the House of Commons record the information

You can even stand if in prison if the sentence is less than a year

I am not a fan of Tommy. I agree with what you say. But with Parliament or a Council he will not get the voice he gets with the EU elections. UKIP and BP have more chance of getting representation with PR than FPTP. I don’t know how many parties you have to choose from in the EU elections, but I have 40. More choice than in a UK GE.

Totally accept where you're coming from on PR, just not so keen on promoting the 'authorities are preventing Tommy's right to free speech' spin that he and his supporters always try to pitch.

I'd agree that it's daft that in general elections particularly, FPTP means a large part of the voting public have very little say in the make up of Parliament (and even less control in who constitutes the executive, if we want to get really boring about it all). :)

I dunno, Manchester voted remain in the referendum, and the two boroughs that this ward straddles were the strongest remain voters of the lot:

Trafford: 58% Remain
Manchester: 60% Remain

That said, not sure how Wythenshawe would have voted.

Like him or not he has clearly been squeezed...his following on YouTube etc was giving the authorities a huge headache.

He’s a determined individual I’ll give him that.

Is that the Dutch woman who was part of the EDL and always complaining about immigrants? She went to prison for hate crime IIRC. Not sure if she’s out or not.

He won't have any. None of them ever do. But none of the people who would consider voting for him would have any idea about other economic or social policies. It doesn't matter if we're living in poverty 'as l0ng as da mu5lim5 r gon m8'

Typical leftist view of Robinson.

He never claimed to be a politician and it’s only until recently he’s turned to a different path(s). His following is huge hence the state’s various schemes to keep him out of the public limelight and silence him.

It’s actually staggering how his support has grown over the last 12-18 months and it’s ‘normal’ people supporting him....that includes those that can spell correctly too.

He’s probably more intelligent than you... ;0)

And this is the stuff that needs challenge. Specifically then, when has the state tried to silence Robinson, other than when he's actually broken the law? Links please, or you're making it up...

He's not a heroic rebel, a little man standing against oppressive authority, he's a criminal thug who tries to intimidate anyone who dares to challenge his beliefs. He's shut down because free speech isn't free when it encourages hatred and violence, it has an actual human cost.

If you think you've got an authoritian state now then imagine what you'd get under the likes of Robinson; look again at the Hope not Hate article above, and look at what he actually says and does.

Then tell us what part of it is wrong; it's a chance to prove your and his superior intelligence so please don't keep us waiting...

Oh please...

I cba to get into the same debates, clearly attempts to silence him and actually him and his family have been threatened countless times. When has he encouraged violence? Show me...

A couple of years ago I had no opinion on him and I’m hardly a staunch follower but he’s not the complete monster some people make him out to be.

No doubt it’s Owen Jones for you ah?

He has a criminal record involving fraud and violence. Whatever your views, he is an offender and he is violent. He is also making a fortune out of the mugs who follow him. No hero. Just a thug on a good earner.
