Hiwula
Kastaneer

What a strong team + bench. Need another Central midfielder, either a CDM so we can push Bayliss up, or Enobakhare would be perfect - Then I'd drop Jobello to the bench.

Don't think Willis will be here, and if he was I certainly don't think he'll be on the bench!

Can't say I share the excitement just yet. Delighted Robins is being backed and getting business done early but is that team really any stronger than the team that finished last year?
Jobello doesn't speak English, Kastaneer replacing a 1.2 million pound player, both who are new to the country and 99% of fans haven't seen kick a ball yet. Dabo and McFadzean are good players but replacing good players from last season. So at this point the only upgrade is the keeper.

Plus for me it's still missing a 9 and 10 if autos is the aim and that was already the problem positions for last season, at least until Bright arrived. Hopefully we have options and Robins is waiting to see if Wilson gets sold or we can ship a couple more out.

I wouldn’t have Biamou or Bayliss in my starting 11 mate.We need a proper Centre mid to play with Kelly & a proper striker.

I think it's been an encouraging window but as we have alot of unknowns coming in its also difficult for me to 'expect' success. Our big problems last season were an inability to score, coupled with an iffy keeper whose mistakes became critical in games we weren't taking chances in.

Neither jobello or kastaneer have great scoring records but this doesnt mean they cant start or cant set plenty up in a Robins system. Marosi sounds like he should be an improvement on Burge, Wilson is probably a benchwarmer. We have to wait and see but id say im optimistic.

Bright’s record before us was not appealing in Scotland nor in the Championship.

On the face of it, we’ve signed a Ligue 2 and Eredivisie player. On the surface, this is very encouraging as we are in L1 and signing players in higher leagues than us.

I do, however, share the same concern as most m: can these players fit in? I hope so.

It's going to be interesting to see how we manage up front. We have gone from a team of midgets to having some serious height at set pieces. Although the two new wingers will have to adapt, the rest of the league won't have a clue what they are about either. Hopefully they can catch a few teams out, particularly with pace.

Yep. We just need to ensure that we catch them out for 45 games.

Yeah its difficult to predict really. I am looking forward to seeing most of these new signings though, its far more encouraging than some of the transfer windows we have had in the past!

At the moment I think it'll be (assuming we're keeping the formation of last year and Willis leaves - if not he's in ahead of McFadzean)

First XI
---------------------Marosi
Dabo------Hyam---------McFadzean-------Mason
-------------Kelly----------Shipley
Jobello-----------Bayliss----------------Kastaneer
---------------------Hiwula

Reserve XI
---------------------Wilson
Pask------Rose-----------Williams-------Brown
--------Maycock-----------Eccles
Jones----------Westbrooke---------------Allassani
---------------------Bakayoko

U23 / 3rd XI
----------------------------------Addai
Hickman------Thompson-----------Drysdale-------McCallum
-----------------------Bartlett----------N'Gandu
Wakefield------------------Burroughs---------------Walters
---------------------------------Ponti

Which leaves Biamou, Chaplin, Bremang and Bosma.

Biamou? And surely you wouldn't keep Jones reserve it he actually recovers and gets back to where he was

Biamou is currently left out partly due to injury - but I have him fighting Bakayoko. Similarly Chaplin should be pushing Hiwula.

As for Jones, again he's injured for a while and it really depends on how the two new wingers do. I think Jones can be a bit hit and miss and I'm not going to pay much attention to his form last season because he clearly came back too early and was frightened of the injury recurring. Even if he's physically fit i think it'll take a long while for him to get mentally fit.

Shipley and Westbrooke both above an 18 year old signed for the u23s surely?

Probably yeah, Shipley I had entirely forgotten about in the excitement of new signings. Ive not seen much of Westbrooke, is he more of a Kelly or a Bayliss?

Stevenson. Looks like a bayliss though. Can't tell the difference on the pitch

I like your work Sky Blue Dreamer. As others have said I don't see Bayliss in a midfield two - I see him best positioned in your formation as our attacking midfielder. Playing in a similar position to Maddison to use his strengths in linking with the attack and driving forward. It's also interesting to think that the first team above has 7 changes vs. the opening day of last season. The only problem with your team is that I can't see Hiwula operating as the lone front man - Max is best suited for that role in our squad.

I ummed and ahhed over who to play as the striker - all of them have a case. In the end I went with Hiwula purely because he was top scorer last season but accept he may not work out as a lone front man and may need revising.

I think with the attacking three we've got we should be looking mainly at someone good in the box rather than holding up play. If Chaplin could show he can do what he bought for he would be the obvious choice, but I'm not sure he will. Biamou probably isn't prolific enough in front of goal and with the injury I ruled him out. Baka is too inconsistent IMO. Even Ponti has a case because IMO he's the best natural finisher in the squad. It's just how well he can do the other things a lone striker has to do. He showed in his cameo's at the end of last season he will chase and harass defenders but can he do that for entire games every week? I'm not sure but unless we wheel and deal the strikers about I'd really like to see him given the opportunity at some point to prove himself in a run of games.

Lol proper centre mid not the best prospect we've produced since Madison
Prospect or not he’s bang average in centre midfield, according to Hickman he’s due to be on “10 bags” a week anyway lol I’m not sure bayliss will even be here come start of season.

You love coming back to this Hickman thing don’t you. Also, definitely not bang average.

If we don’t sign bright or a CAM and if the new wingers are good we should try 4-4-2 with Hiwula and Biamou partnered up front

Sky_Blue_Dreamer

It's definitely an option, but by the sounds of it Kastaneer won't be able to be relied upon to track back and I don't know about Jobello. I do think the strikers we've got would all be better suited to a partnership rather than as a lone wolf, but MR really seems to like the 4-2-3-1 system and keeps on returning to it and is reluctant to change from it during games.

There’s a lot of raw talent coming in, some totally untested in English first team action, and 2 keepers who on paper look no more convincing than the ones we’ve let go.
Have we really replaced, our loans from last year with better players?

The gap to the actual top 5 last season was big and the top 2 huge.

If you had to pick your top players from last season 4 have left the club.

We still have no obvious goal threat, he has to find a striker from somewhere to compliment hiwula and if he’s up to it the new guy.

There’s no logic to suggest we will have a hugely improved points tally

Westbrooke looks a real decent player. Quite cultured on the ball.

The gap to the actual top 5 last season was big and the top 2 huge.

Was it though? Did a rough calculation and if there was a mini league of just the top 8 teams, the points totals were -
1. Cov 22pts
2=. Sunderland/Portsmouth 20pts
4=. Barnsley/Charlton 19pts
6. Luton 17pts
7. Doncaster 15pts
8. Peterborough 14pts

Don't think we were so far off quality wise. Consistency and scoring were our downfall last season.
