Just back, enjoyable day.

We looked fairly slick and pretty comfortable although our keeper pulled off a cracking low down save and Rose made an unbelievable block on the line.

The lad Allen looks an absolute gem.

McFadzen is a unit with great presence, no nonsense defender and very vocal.

Good SBA turnout, difficult to guess but I’d hazard around 400.

Buying Chaplin was a tactical error, making a mint on selling him was tictactical genius.

Once Max hit form in league 2, he probably wasn't far off that ratio. He's been on decent form during pre-season despite not playing that many minutes with the first team. Needs to work his way back so patience is required, he shouldn't be started yet.

Agree we need another striker but I wouldn't write Max off from having an impact on his season.

He was never at that ratio in league 2 - he’s scored in 4 league two games

I agree with your sentiment, , however I would say that having been caught out by the unexpected departure of a striker last year we perhaps should have had a bit more contingency in place against a repeat this year.

Personally im not over concerned at the moment but I can understand peoples frustration/concern.

You did not just compare the McNulty situation to the Chaplin one? It’s apples and oranges. We’ve got a contingency, it’s clearly Walker. We’re obviously having to wait a bit for him, it happens. But we are in a far better position than when we were lost McNulty last season. We have a system around 1 striker and we have several players competing for that spot. The argument is whether a few 10-15 goal a season strikers are OK or do we need to break the bank on a 20-a-seasoner or gamble on a kid that's done it lower down.

Sorry to pee on a few bonfires here, but Baka despite hid GH oal was poor. Jobello was less effective with a tighter defender. The middle withoit Kelly was too weak and we were susceptible far too often to a simple ball over the top. It is pre sesdon but ive sern them a few times now and we do look a little short. A first full 11 will be ok, but i worry a bit about depth. A sprinkling of quality like Btight would make all the difference.

Agreed we need another attacker or two but Baka was OK today. He won the ball back well. Muscled a few players about. Pounced on a mistake and finished the chance. He is not going to be a poacher but there is a use for him.

I don't think Robins will be as blind as to go into the season with only two out and out strikers and some converted wingers.

We will get someone, hopefully Bright and Walker. No panic yet

only just got back myself. Played well but defence looked suspect to me. Swindon on another day could have and should have had a couple of goals. final third wasn’t great but couple of goals give them confidence. Allen looks good. hopefully injury to Kelly isn’t too serious

I think now the friendlys are finished we may see a couple of loans come in, cant see parent clubs sending out players just to play in friendlys so hopefully we can get some much needed competition for the striking role/roles in

I think we’re waiting on Walker and Bright. If they don’t happen we might see a Prem youth loan if there’s one on the radar.

I'm personally relaxed about it.
I still think max or Baka will come good. I've a feeling Walker won't happen so I'm not getting my hopes up on that front.

Thoughts on game:
Allen presses the opposition very well up the field, works tirelessly and composed on the ball.

Defensively we were a bit lucky at times - think our lack of pace through the middle will cost a few goals.

Jobello whipped in a few decent low crosses across the box which a goal poacher would thrive on.

Bayliss: decision making often poor when he came on but at least he carried the ball out of defence a lot. Just seems strangely short of confidence at the moment.

Dabo: Very impressed by him. Good both in and out of possession.

A couple of great saves by Marosi: his reactions are excellent.

Only real worry for me was our left side. I like Brandon Mason's tenacity, but his positional sense is often poor. I wonder if MR will get another LB in on loan if he can get Junior Brown off the books?

Turner gave Dabo another low score again in the ratings, he must be watching the wrong game

Just back from a good day. Bit annoying how stewards decided we had to all be bunched up in specific seats.
Throughts form the game were overall posative.
The GK made some good saves and distribution wise seems a huge upgrade on burge.
Dabo at RB looks a solid defender but need to work on his crossing. Sterling put some great balls in the box last season but defending wise dabo I liked.
The CBs were ok but are not as mobile as Willis and we needed some last ditch defending to keep a clean sheet.
Kelly was amazing controlling the tempo until he had to come off.
Allen is a great signing and will get and make goals.
Jobello looked pacy on the right and will be a real threat. His crossing looked his weakest attribute, overall very impressive.

Jordy is looking sharp and I can see him increasing his goals tally this season.
Baka missed a sitter and his work rate needs to improve, great to see him on the score sheet.

Finally max b had one chance and scored one goal. He is not as quick as some but his core finishing skills are probably as good as we have got up front and when his fitness improves could be ahead of baka for a starting berth or will at least be a danger off the bench.

All in all a good day and with a creativeve number 10 we would have a added dimention and far better goal threat.
I can't wait for the season to start now and Hope all the fans who might be on the fence will turn out to support the team next week.

I thought Shipley was not that effective today, but what pleased me was how often he got into the box in the 2nd half - he will score a reasonable number of goals this season.

Forgot to say, thought Pask looked excellent when he came on... He will be a valuable asset for us off the bench if Hyam / McFadzean are struggling against a pacy striker.

Been in Nottingham for a wedding.... Walker is class and won’t be going anywhere unless they get a striker in (Chaplinesque) but the fans want to keep him. They all said he will score 20 plus if he comes to us ..... at that point I immediately ran to the toilet and had a wank

Couldn't make it today. Was all geared up for it, then the missus claimed "she wasn't feeling well!" Hmpf! Anyway, as an ex-goalie, I'd love to know how Marosi compared to Burge. I know it was only one friendly game but did he do ok?

Swindon’s number 10 looked pretty good. Was all over the pitch and ran there midfield. Don’t think anyone else on there team stood out.

We looked good at the back just need a bit more composure. The missing like is that player linking from midfield to strikers

One is a competent goalie who distributes well makes good saves and commands his area.. The other plays for sunderland

Great couple of reaction saves, one in particular was good down low. Looks a good shot stopper.

Didn't have much to deal with from crosses so can't tell yet.

Looked short for distribution in the main, was conformable enough with the ball at his feet and sold their striker a few dummies before passing to a free defender.

Kicking was OK, bar a couple that went straight out but in his defence he was looking to hit the wingers unlike Burge who could spoon it out at will

Think the instruction is to pass out to Mcfadzen, he looks really good at raking longballs. Quarterback style
