Afternoon people..

Just thought i'd drop in and let you know what next season holds for you.. (Not that i'm trying to rub in relegation for you lot)

When we (wednesday) were relegated back in 2010, i really didn't know what to expect being back in this league, as we had been back in 2005. I honestly had the attitude that we would piss the league, like Norwich and Leicester had done the two seasons previous. Me and the majority of other Owls, all quickly jumped on the "HMS Piss The League" but just like the titanic, we sunk in style! After bolstering our squad with players like Neil Meller, Clinton Morrison, Gary Teale, Nicky Weaver ect, we all thought we'd got the league title and the JPT in the trophy cabinet already.

I'll be as honest as i can, this league is worse than what you could all imagine, it really sinks in how low you've come when the fixture list comes out, Our first fixture last season was Sheffield Wednesday V's Dagenham & Redbridge and as you look down the fixture list it just gets worse and worse.

The refs are awful!

Every small club you come against, there fans seem to hate you and want to start a rivelry with you.

You'll get angry when clubs that hav'nt got 20 pence between them beat you.

The away followings in this league are sh1te.. I think Orient only brought 40 odd fans to hillsborough this season.

The home fans are rubbish, non of them can fill there own grounds, even when they only hold about 8,000.

All the grounds you'll visit are rubbish, it's like stepping back into the 1950s with most of them.

Every team you come up agasint treat you as a cup final, and rase there game, making it even harder to get out of this shit league.

You also seem to have fallen off the face of the earth as far as the media are concerned.

Unless you make the right signings and have a good team spirit, you could struggle next season until you get acustom to the league and what it takes to get out of it.

I honestly hope you get out of it, it's not a nice league to be in for any fans that have known better, but it's bloody hard.. Good luck for next season, but i've got my fingers crossed we won't be playing you..

Cheers Mate. I think most of us have accepted what it will be like, but good and sound comments.

I know thats probably not what you wanted to hear, but i found out the hard way, i think it only really sunk in for me on a freazing cold, december tuesday night, when we were losing at home to a 9 man Yeovil town.. I think that was the point for me where are i thought "shit, we really are in League 1"..

I honestly do hope it's not like that for you lot though, and you come straight back up.

I think most of us know what to expect. Every team that comes to the Ricoh will look on it like a cup final. Every away game we lose will be hell (remember Bury only last season). I am under no illusions as to how hard it is going to be.

As I said last week it's dead easy to get relegated and very hard to get promoted. I remember our first match in the championhsip against Wolves. They were big, burly and agressive. I thought welcome to the Championship. This experience will be even worse!Thats why you don't want to get relegated. No one wants to give praise to Leicester but they did really well to get back first time. I'm affraid we don't have the set up they had so there will be no immediate return for us!

i think most of us on here are realist's and know that it will be very difficult next season, its just that we have to think positively because for the last few years its been nothing but bad, bader(not a word), and even worse news coming continually out of the club.

If i don't think we will do well next season, and have only good thoughts about Cov, i'm likely to jump off Beechy Head.

Alright mate, ive been on owlstalk to ask about the delights that await us in League 1.

The Rev sums it up to be honest, read a few other posts and you'll get the jist of the goings on at the club, we dont have a pot to pi55 in and even if we did you can bet that we wouldn't even own that!!!

GrantSWFC,

What a great post, and also very scary. Cheers for the insight.

Its just a shame to see how far both clubs have fallen, both to League One, although I wish you well on your promotion prospects.

I lived in Sheffield for a few years and have high regard for both the red and blue sides, and hope like ourselves, you all get back to better days and better times.
I have happy memories of Hillsborough for many reasons, but was always impressed with what good loyal support you have.

All the best, and cheers for the truthfull outlook!

I am hoping we have a big advantage with AT. He was a scout for years watching games at this level. He should know what is needed to get us out of it, or at least to compete from the start

Could be wrong but I thought our first match in the championship or Division One, was against Stockport and we got a 2-0 win? Could be wrong though.

I think the best (and most realistic) scenario is we have a takeover, get rid of the high earners in the squad, possibly selling others. Leaving us with a squad of 12-14. Then we work with the loan market and bring in 2 or 3 players from league 1 and 2 that are highly rated, ambitious (but hopefully out of contract), that know the division and can offer input to other players who don't.
I think SISU or not this is the route we would have to take to get ourselves a decent squad, capable of getting out the division.

My only ray of real optimism and hope is that we have a good crop of young players right now, and maybe not next year but the year after could not just be very good players, but very effective. Look at Lallana at soton, had some time in League 1 and he's a top championship player, what he was given was game time, at a weaker, but still very competitive level. I look at Thomas, Bigiramana (though I worry we may lose Gael with interest apparent), Cameron, Clarke, Christie and there is real talent there.

For me, especially Clarke. Next season he could take that division by storm, he has all the attributes of a great full-back and throughout our unbeaten run was, in my eyes, our best player.

However in all honesty it's just speculation. Come late July I think we'll have a decent idea of where we're going and whether that's further down or straight back up. Praying for the latter!

Our first match was against Stockport, i was there, we virtually took over the ground... was a breeze with i think hughes and carsley scoring, thought we,d piss the league...the rest as they say is history

No, you're right, it was. I was thinking that too but now I'm not sure if he just meant in general our first game against Wolves in the championship was physical?!

Note of symmetry here - I was in Ibiza on our first match in the Championship. Never been back... until I go at the end of May! 2 times to Ibiza, both in relegation years!

Good shout that, another reason I hope he's in charge come August

First home game was Wolves. Remember spending an hour handing out 'Strachan out' leaflets outside the Binley Oak when i should have been inside drinking beer which would have helped numb the pain of the football that was to follow.

Thanks for your positive posts back..

You all do seem like realists, and that will help next season. For us we came down with a bad attitude and karma repaid us badly with scorelines like Leyton Orient 4-0 Sheffield Wednesday, Exeter City 5-1 Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Wednesday 1-4 Peterborough United, Peterborough United 5-2 sheffield Wednesday, and even this season we didn't escape those sort of results, we lost 5-1 away to newly promoted Stevenage.

But on the flip side, relegation to league 1 has actually been a massive blessing in disguise, we were very much like you in our recent fortunes, since our relegation from the Prem in 2000, we've since suffered 2 more relegations and only managed 4 top half finishes in those 12 years. I hope you don't mind me saying and i think you'd all agree, you've had very little success since relegation from the prem also. But since we were relegated to league 1, we went to being just few hours away from going bust and milan saved us in the 11th hour, but since then our fortunes have completely changed, we've now got a very good chairman (even though i doubt you lot like him) he's cleared our debt and for the first time in 2 decades we're finally debt free, our attendances are rising, we've got a very good successful manager in Dave Jones, we've got some good hungry young players that play for the shirt.. I really hope your club is a similar story, it's been god knows how long since either of our clubs have had anything to shout about, but for us the future is now a lot brighter..

Well in all honesty, right now we'd all jump at the chance of League 1 with a sound footing. My Leicester mates really enjoyed their brief tour of new grounds and winning most places, but I don't think for a second we would have that same experience. Mind you our expectations are so low now an away win at Brentford sounds like cause for a party. I like Wednesday, always fond memories of trips to Sheffield, friendly folk and great beer in that Barracks Tavern. Be good to have the Owls down to the Ricoh as we could do with the money but I suppose I'm supposed to say good luck, I hope you get promoted.

Cheers for the warning. Most of us had already come to the conclusion it was going to be a bit shit next season, but still there has been one or two on here who have been talking about top 6, it being fun and us going to Wembley in the JP Trophy.

Hopefully your post has served up a great big dollop of realism for them.

I can only see bottom half or even lower for us unless we invest heavily!

Investing heavily in Div 3 is spending money on any players for a lot of clubs.

And that was when we had no cash, but had a really decent Manager in Nigel Pearson who seemed to know which youngsters to bring in.

Last time I looked you are vying for automatic promotion? You have had a great season and your club is skint!?

Last time I looked your ground is the same as when I used to do some announcing there back in the late 80's? It's old.

TBH with you gone and Charlton and Utd gone the rest look like small town clubs without a pot to piss in.

Yes we have not got much to piss with either but looks like even with SISU we will benefit better than most with some great very good young players.

I fail to see us struggling. Think we will come straight back up.

Thought i would have a quick look at Charlton and Sheff Utd

Charlton brought in 18 permanent signings and 1 loan signing this season

Sheff Utd brought in 9 permanent signings and 8 loan signings this season

Massive outlay the previous year under Holloway though-I wouldn't say that you've been skint at all since Mandaric came in.
