Officials in League 1 (15 Viewers)

I know our shooting was shocking and we should have scored 5 but in a matter of weeks there have been clear handballs that the whole stand can see and appeal for but the linesman has completely missed?

Yep-in fairness to Drysdale the handball shout on Sunday was shielded from him and there is no way he can give that. The assistant should be seeing that as clear as day-so in a nutshell the referee would be looking across at his assistant for the decision, no decision was made by the assistant so the game carried on.

Exactly the same as the other week.

Problem is the officials never give anything. Often they don’t even flag for the throw before the ref has signalled.

Exactly, the other week the lino was stood next to the ball going out. He went to flag one way but then the ref gave it the other way and the lino changes where he is flagging.

We are league one and these officials are of the same level the players make more mistakes than top level ones so the officials will do the same

You wouldn't expect those mistakes in Saturday football let alone League 1.

No but you will get them, I haven’t bothered watching the mistakes from last week but from the sounds of them you wouldn’t expect pro footballers to make them, same yesterday with the finishing and the terrible back pass

It's been 2 clear handballs in as many weeks.

The other week everybody in the stand saw the handball apart from the lino and it was even more blatant than the one yesterday.

I'm actually glad these decisions aren't being given.

As bad as it sounds with the results coming out as they are, Robins might try and tackle the problem with the finishing, which is a really fucking big one. That could make a difference later in the season.

I’m sorry but this is bollocks, the standard of the officiating is not league one standard. Most assistants can’t keep up with play most games, none of them flag for throw ins before the ref has given it and the refs themselves don’t even observe the basic rules set out by the FA ( when was the last time we had any player go off at the nearest point when being subbed).
The assistant on the far side yesterday was of a special blend, at one point in the second half Kasteneer decided on who the throw in belonged too while both the ref and the linesman looked at each other. No wonder he didn’t see the clear handball.

The going off bit happened with Jobello the other week I can’t quote the game as they all blend into one, the officials are the same standard they have been for a few years generally not good. I don’t think they are helped by some of the rules time wasting has become ridiculous now but I think the refs quite like it as it gives them a few seconds rest.

We have players that can’t cross the ball past the first man and strikers that can’t lift it over a keeper.

I shall watch the linesman or woman next time a bit more to see if they keep up with play( but will have to do it on our side as I can’t see much over the other side as we are a bit low down)

I’ve never seen a lino so far behind the game as the one we had in front of us at Oxford away. Doubt I ever will either.

League 1 refs are utter dross, Tranmere could of been down to 9 yesterday. Their Villa Loanee comitted a clear yellow card offence while already on a yellow and their shite triker could of been off as well.

They lack bottle and can't keep control of the game most of the time.

Payne on a booking but then goes through the back of our defender.

Wimbledon was the worst, he went to book their player and remembered he had been booked then called the captain over and the player was subbed.

That was him, yeah that was a second yellow. Hepburn-Murphy hacked someone down while on a yellow down our left as well.

And why wasn't a penalty given when Godden was fouled? his foot was in the box, if that was an offside decision or that joke VAR shite he would have been given off because his foot was further forward so why not a penalty???? fucking shit rules at times and even worse shit fucking idiotic wankers who want to be a ref because they were probably bullied at school...GRRRRRRRRRRR fucking hate the idiots at times

Haha - I commented on that at the time - it really was a case of, 'oh well, he looks like he knows whose throw it is - plus he's a big bugger' !

One or two idiots on here then. Don’t think they were bullied at school either.
Nice of the idiots though to give up their free time on a Saturday or Sunday morning along with lots of other volunteers so the grass roots and junior games can take place......

Sometimes though, the poor standard of refereeing means the game might as well not take place.

I appreciate they can't see everything, but if everyone else sees it, it can't just be a case of missing the incident? Plus it's normally more than one incident that is missed...

Also a massive lack of consistency.

A whole stand saw the handball the other week, everybody jumped up shouting for it but the lino had no idea.

And that's the difference, professional referees getting paid don't get sympathy for giving up their free time. They are getting paid to do a job and Drysdale was shit yesterday.

Don't think they are professional at this level. Even in the championship they only get about £600 per game. Disgraceful when you think of the money in football. It's hardly surprising the standard is shit.

The last time I saw someone go off at the nearest possible side was Jobello against Bristol Rovers, cause he did had to do it the game before and Kasteener scored. But no refs do it from what I’ve seen don’t even see them do it in the premiership. It’s probably one of the best rule changes they have made for this year and they don’t follow it through.
I think the biggest thing like Nick says though is the inconsistency throughout, Walsh was penalised for obstruction in the first half Sunday after he had been fouled on the edge of Tranmere’s box and then the same happened for Tranmere and they got the free kick. All I ask for is some consistency and not shit consistency.

Actually I think Drysdale is one of the better referees we get and had a decent game Sunday, the handball, which it was, was the linesman’s shout he was dead in line.

Is it much to ask they be competent at what they do? I remember last time talked about refs on here you were defending shocking performances and decisions.

Not defending the handball shout at all-assistant referee should have given it all day long but some people are blaming the ref who can’t see it as he is on the far side of the area and his view isn’t clear.
People think that we get a fortune to do it-we don’t. A junior grass roots game on a Saturday morning around Warwickshire let’s say u10’s would get you £18. Just enough travel wise to get you there and wash your kit ready for next week.

What sort of car do you run then Adge, not trying to be funny but refs in general make me so angry because of their incompetence, I just don't understand the mentality of people wanting to be a referee knowing full well they will get abuse!! I just think they like the power trip, not trying to be funny to you or any referee because I know its a difficult thing to do I just cannot understand the reasoning.
My take on it is to referee at professional level you must have played at least a full season in league football as a minimum requirement, this way at least they should understand the 'goings' on around diving/cheating etc then give the less fortunate top players a chance to still be able to make a living from pro football, they should also be able to referee with common sense instead of some barmy old bastards like eufa or whoever controls the standards of refereeing making up so many grey area rules and with VAR coming in its gotten even more ridiculous too because some of those decisions is a fucking joke...rant over

I think to referee any game with so many people telling you you are wrong is difficult. To referee a league game where a lot of the players are 'seeking to gain an advantage' (cheat) and where you have thousands of people only to willing to tell you that you don't know what you are doing, must be that much harder. Then you have managers like Steve Evans too!
I get annoyed with the officials during a game, same as everyone else, but I do always see things through Sky Blue eyes.
An area I think the referees could improve on is actually using the laws that are in place to keep the game flowing and to cut out any advantage sought through time wasting.
I don't understand why they don't repeatedly enforce the 6 second rule for goalkeepers. The guy on Sunday held the ball for well over 20 seconds on several occasions. His eventual booking didn't help and in fact used up more time. His antics on dribbling the ball to the remotest part of the penalty area and waiting for Godden t arrive before he picked it up really emphasised his plan to waste time but was surely also ungentlemanly conduct? (pretty sure this is a concept that still exists within the laws. Certainly he wasn't playing within the spirit of the game.
