Really? Over here they announced that Leaving Cert & Junior Cert (A level & GCSE) will definitely be going ahead. Thats caused two things- mass panic in 16 & 18 yr olds who assumed exams were off and did no work, and secondly a barrage of questions about how they can do it, looks like it will be online exams.

luckily neither of my kids are impacted as they’re too young, but it’s causing a bit of uproar alright, no idea if they’ve thought it through fully.

... and you don’t need to worry about being respectful, if they mess up they mess up, simple as that.

Probably one for BSB but don't grade boundaries usually get set after making has taken place to ensure you don't get a sudden change due to the test itself changing year to year? If so you'd assume they would just apply the same principle.

Ranking the students does provide a barrier against that though it’s not perfect.

Probably one for BSB but don't grade boundaries usually get set after making has taken place to ensure you don't get a sudden change due to the test itself changing year to year? If so you'd assume they would just apply the same principle.

I know nothing about this but I always thought that the marks were on a curve, so a certain proportion would get certain grades- I know that’s how it works with accountancy/ tax/ treasurers exams?

Not sure what EU freedom of movement has to do with a worldwide pandemic. In any case its not my job to come up with the solution, that's the role of government. I was simply pointing out that it is wrong to dismiss any failings of the government with 'no one could have predicted this' when it has been widely predicted for years.

If I was in a decision making position one thing I would have certainly have done is made sure not to bring the NHS to its knees prior to any pandemic. Also think its valid to suggest more NHS capacity, including ventilators, should have been ready to go when the governments own reports state that a pandemic is likely and the NHS doesn't have sufficient ventilators to cope with it when it does occur.

Yep we wrote the mock from last year’s paper so used last year’s boundaries.

He’s a clown. But we are using all of the test data we have, not just mocks. We will do it by the book and can just hope that other schools will as well plus hope for the moderation process to equalise anybody inflating grades

There’s strong hints that the US government were warned around the same time that they were overdue for a pandemic disease going on the patterns of the past. Then in 2018 Trump sacked pandemic disease specialists in the belief it wouldn’t happen during his term.

Trump certainly has questions to answer. Closing the White House pandemic office to save money isn't looking the smartest plan now. Also the Americans had an epidemiologist embedded in China’s disease control agency to ensure the information they got out of China was correct. That position was removed last July.

I think they always downgraded mocks to keep pupils alert and parents on their backs but also often predicted grades to suit the student and parents for their preferred choice

This year I assembled the mock and made it a realistic version of what they could expect. So the grades they got in those were quite likely what they would expect to get in the end. The grade distribution we got was nearly the same as last year’s cohort in the real thing.

Fair enough. If there's no work to do then no need for them to be working. Also worth highlighting the club are paying the 20% the government isn't paying so all staff will get their full salary.

Not sure furloughing is going to work out like the government expected. There's an article on the BBC site that says the Treasury expectation was for 10% of private companies to make use of the scheme but polling results give 44% of companies saying they will furlough at least half of their employees.

It really should be restricted to small companies and workers in pubs etc. For JLR to do it is taking the piss. they will need to tighten it up

Our prediction rate is pretty accurate-out of 50 A level students only 3 were more than a grade outside of prediction. KH8 was far better run under George Fisher and the slide since hasn’t been pretty watching
