Some of them are mental. Robert Peel statue in Birmingham is on there because he invented policing! This is exactly how a campaign loses mainstream support. You've got something that nobody could really argue against, unless they're a racist, but the spotlight is on taking League of Gentlemen off Netflix and removed the blue plaque of the chap who first brought magnolias to the country.

They also want to take down a Captain Cook statue because he fought with the Maori

Seen some people mention that the titles coming off Netflix were also about to see their license expire and be moved onto Britbox. Were Netflix really concerned about racism or cheap publicity stunt?

Not sure about all of the shows but Little Britain was certainly scheduled to be removed from Netflix before it all kicked off

Farage has walked from LBC after being told his contract wasn't being renewed after pressure from advertisers.

I wonder if Nick Ferrari will be next? In any case there’s sadly a home at Talk Radio for the bigots.

If LBC can have James O'Brien then they can have Farage on the other side for balance.

Doing stuff like this sets a dangerous pattern. Don't like the argument so shut it down. It's babyish.

This whole thing has gone too far now.

The equivalent to Farage would be someone like Aaron Bastani not the fairly middle of the road O’Brien.

A) no way is James O'Brien the other side of Farage and b) I think it was his comparing BLM to the Taliban that did more than anything.
Sounds like it made their sponsors twitchy

Shmmeee, I like you a lot, but O'Brien middle of the road?

Come on man.

Shutting down opposite sides of the argument is ironically fascism.

It's all getting very silly and happy clappy now.

They are pretty much exactly polar opposites. It's just one is left wing and the other is right wing.

He made a comment that offended a few snowflakes. Probably a bit distasteful but getting sacked for it? I shouldn't need to explain to people why this has all got a bit silly.

I suppose Alex Salmond was the equivalent, a politician rather than a commentator. Ferrari should be sufficient

It won't be enough for them. They'll come for Ferrari too.

He’s a Brexit extremist, but politically he’s fairly bog standard centre left. Anti Corbyn, supports fox hunting.

I don’t think O’Brien is left wing at all, maybe because we’ve been dragged so far right I don’t know?

Farage is a racist - there’s no hiding from it. Ferrari (although I really don’t like him) isn’t as bad but he’s really fucked up this week with his comments on TV.

I think Brexit has skewed people’s perspective because generally it’s the centre left that are passionately Remain, Lexiters tend to be socialist in my experience.

They are not polar opposites at all and I'm not a massive O'Brien fan but he's very much centre left.
And if it's the sponsors who are uneasy about his comments then I shouldn't need to explain that the opinion of a few snowflakes is irrelevant and potential loss of income is at stake.

Letter resurfaces from Nigel Farage's schooldays warning of “racist” and “fascist” tendencies

Not silly at all, he's an out & out racist, and if you're a snowflake finding it uncomfortable when someone uses nazi imagery to garner support, well guess I'm a snowflake. No offence but I think you're waaayyy off the mark on this.

I don't think it's his argument as much as his Taliban comments.
I saw the interview, he was getting wound and let that slip, he's an experienced broadcaster he should have known better

Aren’t LBC dumping a lot of presenters?

Labelling O'Brien the lefts equivalent of Farage is another example of how far the whole political spectrum in this country has lurched to the right. Anything slightly left of centre is considered an extreme view!

Would probably be best for the station if Ferrari goes as well. Him and Farage will find a role at Talk Radio on the soon to launch Times Radio. They'd fit in at either of those perfectly. No point splitting the audience over 3 stations, leave LBC to serve a different audience.

James O'Brien was more critical of the Corbyn Labour Party than most right wingers

He's a centrist nause

If folk are calling him left wing because he is a remainer then those folk are thick as mince

leave/remain was not a binary left/right thing

Like all good neo-liberals he’s very happy with the status quo because it sees him well.

Does Ian Dale have to go as well Dave?

Matt Lucas has expressed regret before now about them doing blackface as it was made at a time when people were trying to shock more. BBC removing it has probably got more eyes on it than if they left it sitting on a shelf though
Am surprised UK Gold hasn't cut the Major's cricket scene from Fawlty Towers, as I believe the BBC did that a while back?
