Baka (13 Viewers)

Its a shame as I feel there's more of a player in there than he's letting on. Either way, unless we get 2 strikers in he stays for me. 1 striker and he'll be our 3rd choice, go on and make a nuisance of yourself, option.

I would push the boat out for Collins. Top striker in l1 and didnt do to bad in a poor Luton side at championship level. If we dont score goals this season we cant rely on a solid defence at this level.

everyone wants a proven striker for a reason they keep you up or get you rewards. I think Godden could step up but what happens if he gets injured do you think Baka and Max would keep us up ?

It would be £2m before Luton would even return our calls - money we do not have

Really like Baka. Got height, pace, strength, powerful shot, great attitude.

Scoring record in terms on actual minutes on the pitch is OK.

Think his issues are mostly mental IMO, plays within himself too much and in our set up isn’t as good a finisher as Godden so will need more chances to score the same amount, but I think when he’s on the pitch he does more work for the team than Godden chasing down defenders and the like.

This ☝🏼

(Also further proof that even a broken fucking clock can be right sometimes)

I'm hoping for a decent Premier league loan.

Whilst Baka is young and has improved, I think MR is keeping the potential, but for me if there's only only room for either/or in his squad then I'd choose Max.

Division 1 squad player is his level.
Nothing against him personally, just stating the obvious.
I can see scoring goals is going to be a huge problem this year, unless we bring in a quality striker or two.

Out of the strikers that scored 15 last season who would you bet we could afford? Or even have afforded before last season started?

The question should probably be would you believe someone with a similar goal record to Brian Kilkline at a higher level be a tad risky as your second choice striker

Where did we get Mifsud from, we need to find someone like that, quick and cheap.

So one month before the season starts we have written the guy off as out of his depth.

The impact of the wage cap on L1 has widened the gap to the championship. The recruitment this season is critical to our chance of consolidating in the Championship.
I'm hoping that with our lower cost base that IF we can stay up this season - we could capitalise on other clubs struggling financially the following year and have a real go for the top 6.

I personally thing he’s a great target man. Holds the ball up well.

I wholly disagree, i would say for his height and size he is really poor at holding the ball up and a poor target man. He doesn't use his size anywhere well enough, it's one of the things about him that really disappoints me. He should be bullying centre halves, but doesn't.

He's 24 (25 in Jan) so no longer a youngster, he should be starting to hit his peak but can't even command a starting place in league one.

I think if Robins can get him playing in tune with his own vision then he'll be a great option to have. I don't consider Baka a bad player by any means, he just needs a bit of self-belief and to use his physical attributes to his advantage more.
I think this sums up the whole Baka situation. He’s got the physical attributes you want in a lone striker and definitely has something, but he needs to believe in himself a bit more. I think he’s a carrot rather than a stick kind of guy. Despite being physically capable of wiping out most people without much effort, he doesn’t use that enough for me. He needs a big hug and to believe e in himself, then he needs to two foot some defenders so they know he’s a unit. ;)

I think I have found our man, 24yr old 6ft 2" Reda Kharchuch Moroccan striker born in Holland, 20 goals last season in the Dutch 2nd division.

Baka has the occasional 10min spell when he looks unplayable; strong, holds ball and drives at defenders. And. Love it when he chases down keepers. But then he goes missing for whole games and drops his head. If Robins can get more out of the ‘unplayable Baka’ then he will be an important member of this years squad. If not he will be moved on in January I think.
Robins clearly thinks he can get more from him and I trust his judgement.

He's certainly not "shit", "lazy" or a "waste of a shirt" as has been levelled at him by some "fans".

I've said this on a few other threads but he has all the attributes you'd want physically & is adequate technically too but he fails to bring it all together on a consistent basis which I think is largely down to mentality.

Interestingly enough I stumbled upon this from Robins earlier this past season & I 100% agree with every word:

“If you were going to build a striker, a No.9, you’d look at his build and you might just say, that’s what it’s going to look like. But he needs to understand that that’s him.

“He allows people to move into his space. There’s not enough aggression in his game and that’s something that he has to sort out."

It’s also entertaining that when we were in L1 he wasn’t considered good enough by lots of our fans, and now we’re in the Championship he’s league 1 level.

I don’t personally see Baka as direct competition for Godden, more a different option. Horses for courses. We need options.

I remember bumping into him in Asda Perry Barr and he was so nice, when I asked him if he played football and then proceeded in telling him his name and number for city ( twat I know) he looked so embarrassed that he had been noticed, kind of his behind his trolley.

I think the thing that gave him confidence was that slide on the keeper and defender and it kicked off a bit and the fans went mental for him and the players backed him up. One of the last games we played aswell the centre back give him a little shove by the touch line and the fans were telling him to ‘do him’ and you could see he loved it!!
Ive really warmed to him this year and all the Walsall fans I work with took the piss but now I just say he’s a championship player not a league two player now

I think part of the problem is he's a nice guy on the pitch too. Needs to be more aggressive & dominate centre backs - he has the ability.

I think and hope Baka will prove a few wrong this season - I think he is one if not the best finisher at the club but needs to work on his consistency levels of performance when on his game he is a very good player - agree he needs praise not flak so hope more of our fans get behind him this season!

Think we should task Kelly with giving him a wedgie in the tunnel on the way out every game. Get him fired up, he’s a beast when he’s angry, but too much of a nice guy to show it usually.

I’m not saying it’s a piss easy league but it’s not as physical as L1 and L2 and hopefully this will benefit him more
