Sky Sports Transfer talk about a £20m “package” this will probably mean staged payments based on goals, appearances etc. will that mean we will also have trickled payments?

Think it is always like this. The only thing it really affects is cash flow, but no different to when we buy a player. It's rarely all paid up front.

Bournemouth were reported to be keen on Matt Ritchie being part of the deal so we will have to see if it is £20million cash plus Ritchie what would the value of Ritchie be ?

Read somewhere that Matt Ritchie is on 60 thousand pounds sterling + a week and has time on his contract. Would he move?

I think problems have come up when players like Scott Dann, Dan Fox, Kieran Westwood proved themselves but weren’t tied down on longer contracts and essentially all left at similar times for free. That was terrible business
It’s the same business model as the one we have now and we got fees for both Fox and Dann.
We signed Westwood on a 3 year contract and he repeatably turned down a new contract and left for a PL club at the time.

Why not be stronger for the whole season rather than half of it - #FreeWalsh
I agree if you could get Walsh then get him but this is the strongest squad we’ve started a season with in a long time. I don’t want us to pay good money for someone to sit on the bench. Was it Robins that said in League Two time that you can only spend your pound once. Injuries and lack of form will come in midway through the window and we can improve then.

I don’t get the argument that this means we can bring a few more players in. If we have a target that we know will improve the squad then go get them but we don’t need a lot of bodies in now. I’d keep the money in the club and use it in January if we need to.

Agree - I suspect if you look at who we've bought/brought in - Walker, O'Hare, Hamer, Osti, Hilssner, Da Costa versus who has left the club -Zainbrooke, Ponti, Ngandu, Walters plus ? (in terms of fees and wages) then we are likely to be a lot in deficit. Throw in the BCD, lack of ticket sales, then(some of) this 'extra money' may already have to be used to balance the books (as was ever thus).

The argument is Robins has said he’s after two more depending on budget and our budget just went up.

I agree I can’t see where desperately needs it, which is why I’m curious as to who Robins has seen who can improve the side.

If that wages website was to be believed we've saved 5k a week wages on hiwula. Throw in some Wilson money and we could look for Walsh. However perhaps some of this will be used for tools for stadium planning?

It’s not accurate - a whole football teams wages aren’t in the public domain

I have a different recollection to you. I seem to remember we only got round to offering Westwood a new deal in the final January of his contract. Pretty sure the same happened with Gunnarsson too.

from memory I thought they even went free or very cheap because their contracts didn’t have long to run

On the other hand we signed players like David Bell on a 4 year deal, it works both ways
At the risk of repetition, a club in our financial situation, that is rising quite successfully, and turning over players quite frequently (this year's likely line up could have up to 4-5 newcomers) ....does not need to be encumbered with long term contracts in the vague hope there will be a sell on. The guys to lock in are the promising youngsters like Bapaga.

Biamou is a case in point. How much better if we had been able just to release him and say thank you.

Thats true, but back when we were last in the championship we seemed to let the good players go cheaply or for nothing and had the crap players on long term contracts we couldn’t get rid of. We are much better now as a club at contract negotiations, things have improved greatly in that respect.
