It's not been good. I've not said anything different. But I think there are mitigating circumstances and our support are being too harsh on the players.

We have to make changes to 5he way we're doing thinks and we have to adapt to life in this league a lot quicker but there's plenty of time to turn things round.

They had a 60% bigger wage budget than us in 2019 when figures were last released, I'd call that pretty significant.

OK so their wage bill was higher than ours last season, despite that we proved we were a better team with better players... since then we have also spent more on new players than them. So we should be aiming to finish above them really, should we not?

Its not really about who has played who, Rotherham compete and put themselves in with a chance in just about every game they play. Thus far, we have not.

Of course who has played who is relevant. You'd fancy your chances against Wycombe (the only team they'd beaten before tonight) more than against Bournemouth wouldn't you?

They were smashed 3-0 by Reading so as long as we lose by less than 3 clear goals on Friday night we'll have competed better than them right?

What I'm picking is that it's absurd to be judging after only 8 games, especially when the quality of opposition has been completely different. Brentford were 17th at this stage last season & ended up missing out on the Premier League by a whisker.

Nobody thinks we've been doing well but there is some mitigation there in stupid red cards, quality of opposition & some key players being unavailable.

I would like to think we'll compete much better against some of the lesser sides in the division than against Bournemouth & Brentford. If we don't then I will start being concerned.

Its not even the current points total that worries me, its pretty much to be expected. The way we've been playing is far more worrying. We look all over the place. My minimum expectation is to not look all over the place.

Yep it seems the Bournemouth game absolutely knocked the stuffing out of them. Mad to think that confidence can be so brittle after romping away with a league.

Ordinarily we'd have won the title on the pitch and carried that momentum through from the same pre season as everyone else. As it is, we won it in a way which dented that somewhat. Motivating players under such circumstances isn't easy but they need reminding that they're here on merit, they've earnt the right to be on that pitch and even though the opposition is strong they're not invincible. We've had very good chances, even if just a few, in every game.

That is a fair point. I also really do think the players could with some fans in the stands now. Let's face it, we're not winning away anyway so that won't matter. Need to get some support behind them at St Andrews.

I don't disagree with that but as I said there are other factors & against superior opposition we can't always be on the front foot.

Look at Leicester's gameplan vs Arsenal on Sunday, they played without a recognised striker & literally sat back & defended until bringing Vardy on - Rodgers was hailed a genius.

I actually think tactically we were ok on Tuesday night, we defended well for 80 minutes & were gradually looking stronger as the game wore on. The problem is the service into Godden was poor & the 2 CAMs both had poor games as well. Walker would have been a better fit than Godden but wasn't fit enough to play more than a bit part. Personally I'd have played Baka but there we go...
Had we not made a colossal fuck up with the poor offside line we could easily have come away with a 0-1 ourselves or at least the 0-0 which would be a good result. Fine margins.

The thing that encourages me is that whilst we haven't been anywhere near our best we were comfortably a match for QPR, Swansea & Bristol City & could easily have won against the latter 2 & have another 5 points on the board. Again, fine margins.

If we can find form (yes it's a big if) I'm positive we'll be ok - let's not get ahead of ourselves with the doom & gloom.
