Biamou still has lots to offer (4 Viewers)

We played 4 more games in the same formation after his injury. How have you made that leap?

Because we intended to play it with him stuck with it for a bit then changed it. We wouldn’t if he stayed in the team

League two only changed when Jones was crocked

You must really rate Jobello if you think him being missing was the difference when we lost 0-4 to Rotherham, 0-1 to Tranmere, failed to score at MK Dons and were losing 1-0 at HT vs Fleetwood.

We were abysmal first half vs Fleetwood. and the preceeding 4 matches we were awful.

Max literally had a major changed the season from 2nd half onwards.

Co incided with Godden Injury and then we went on a good FA CUP run and pick up in league form. Especially that week where we played IPSWICH it seems 3 times. Where MAx was simply our best player.

I wouldn't argue with that .
The PPG from the first ten matched end of season .
Memory slightly fuzzy but I don't think we hit it again until 12-15 from home.

So you do really rate him then. We were unbeaten with that formation before his injury and then didn't win in the formation after it and his absence from it caused MR to change the whole formation......

You don't change a formation at half time in a game because someone got injured 3 and a half games ago. We hadn't scored for 315 mins and the season was falling off a cliff. The formation change had nothing to do with Jobello, it was desperation but it worked.

I agree about L2 and Jones though but the Jobello part is just you not wanting to credit MR with the formation change and actually making a negative out of it by suggesting he was lucky and it was forced on him.

The style made a difference but it’s obvious he was pinned as 4th choice and the walker signing is looking pretty odd - he scores goals - nearly 40 in two years and now seems surplus to requirements
Didn't mean to like that comment as he is not surplus to requirements. He has only just joined us hadn't played for ages and has had covid and needed to isolate. Just because he hasn't made an immediate impact doesn't mean that he won't have a part to play. Godden has been great so far but I doubt he will play every match. Why do we have to write off every player so quickly regardless of circumstances?

Is Walker like godden ? But hopefully a little bit more pace.

wonder if plan long term will be to have Walker/max/baka on rotation
I don't think he is. He is faster for sure but based on what we have seen so far not sure he can hold the ball as well.

Allen O Hare are not going to feature in a midfield 3 like this and unlikely Kelly will either - I suspect he’ll go in January
We need a squad and the ability to change formations.

Well he’s signed players to play a style of football he’s rapidly had to abandon

There's nothing wrong with that - long old season and it may be that if it's a 2 up front it will be a Max or Baka with a Godden or Walker, depending on fitness, injury etc. Having different options is a good thing. We don't know if Godden and Walker can play together effectively yet, and with 2 up front it could be they are first choice. What I do know is that the win will have given the whole team a massive lift in terms of confidence and self belief. The main thing to be learned is that we can at least compete with some of the better teams, even if sometimes we will come up against some players of exceptional quality (Joao, Mbuemo and the like).

Offers a lot more than Baka
Agree with this. Baka for his youth and physical stature does not always seem to know how to use these to his advantage in terms of the team concept. Walker will need to get up to speed soon and offer competition for places. I thought, to an extent, Max helped bring others into the mix. We need more of that and more link up play. We've had players that have been too isolated in games with our midfield being overrun and no way to connect the defence to midfield and attack. Also our attack has been non-existent in some games altogether. Confidence is another department where I was afraid we were having a major crisis, but this win should be the shot in the arm all of us needed collectively.

Walker is long term for sure. Hardly featured at this level but excelled below. We have to bide our time. Max did almost everything right last night and it seemed to fire up godden as well. Just the hold up play, support etc.

Walker will be long term, Max has to do that job now and if he'd played against that bag of shite boro, all those ridiculous long balls we did would have stuck allowing us out.

Also I'm a massive Kelly fan that's obvious but to bring allen on with 5 mins to go instead of the one player we have who can buy time, composure, captain... Just seemed bizarre to me. Think Allen touched it once

Robins was pretty open last night when he said if Walker was fit, he’d be ahead of Biamou.

Allen has spent most his career playing as a CM rather than an AM. COH showed last night he’ll be able to play there too.

All of these players were signed when we planned to play 4-3-3 - so we’ve got that tactical flexibility.

We played the same formation regardless of Jobello getting injured for several games, lost a bunch of them, then changed it and got better.

Did a similar thing in League Two when our form dipped, long after Jones got injured (Coincidentally our golden run at the end of the season saw Max come into the side)

There isn't some big conspiracy here and you don't have to overthink this - Robins has shown he can switch the formation, regardless of what he planned at the start of the season, and it's usually results rather than injuries which dictate that. It's worked pretty well for us the past three years, so hopefully that's the case again this season.

No he didn’t. He only changed when Jobello was injured - we were winning games anyway - the point most of his first choice midfield now are not able to play as they don’t fit the formation - the other issue still is we are on target to concede nearly 100 goals in the season
‘Most of his first choice midfield’ apart from Sheaf, Hamer (with Kelly probably rotating back in when fit) and a combination of O’Hare/Shipley/Allen as the nature of the game dictates. As the term ‘most’ implies a majority can you let me know the 6/7 midfielders ahead of these in the pecking order?

I think a lot changed when Max got injured, I think the whole rationale for signing Chaplin went out the window too.

No secret I am a fan of Max, was wishing he would have a good game. Wasn't disappointed.
Just means their defence had to split up and mark 2 instead of one, this gave us that bit of room in the box to get those 3 excellent goals.

I'm a Max fan but honestly thought his days at the club were numbered but if he carries on like last night he'll play in more games than he misses, great performance.

Good then that our 3rd or 4th choice back up striker got into those positions on his first ever start in the Championship against the run away league leaders who had previously only conceded 3 goals in 8 games.
Got into the positions-great. Couldn’t hit the target from 6 yards-not too great I’m afraid.

Are you blaming Max for being too close to a strike partner when winning flick ons????
Surely Max is where the ball is landing as he's winning the ball/header to flick on, he can't choose his position, his position is where the ball is. Surely its the strike partners positioning that is wrong and not Maxs whos currently getting blamed for where the ball lands?
Fucking absurd this forum at times

Alright Boris, calm down fella! Not putting blame on anyone! Has always been the case that our strikers have often been too far apart and nowhere near one another, or too close and not doing a lot! That's both their faults! But wasn't having a go! Just pointing out a positive! 😝

oh, and to add, I do like Max! I'm glad he's still around and we didn't offload him as, as the title suggests, he still has something to offer 😛

As soon as anyone comes out with the selfies and autographs comments you know they have lost the argument. I couldn’t care less about Twitter or selfies. I’m not involved in any of that stuff. I like Max because I think he has been an effective, sometimes exciting player at the three different levels he has played at. He would never be in my list of all time City greats or probably many City fan's but that is not the issue. His attitude is great, he always works hard, he scores spectacular and important goals his goals per minute on the pitch ratio is good. The selfies comments seem to be a way of belittling the ideas of anyone who thinks Biamou has something to offer. I get that you might not see or appreciate what I or others see. Might be best therefore to talk about the players qualities of lack of them as you see it rather than the sneery remarks.

So your saying that changing from a 4-3-3 to 5-2-2-1 is a smaller a difference than a 5-2-2-1 to a 5-2-1-2?

Ah yes, Logic.

He has actually only scored 9 league goals in his entire career and two were in a 6 - 2 defeat and one in a thumping win. I think this is why some of us are so bemused as his career is mediocre whatever you say yet he gets more hype than far better players that have gone before

Is his goals per minute good? He went a 1,000 minutes without a goal but I assume that’s when he’s learning his trade and doesn’t count

I like Baka but Max offers more, and you’ve got to admire his desire to fight for his place. Last season he was told the same thing. Was probably 4th choice going into the season, and with Robin’s then 1 striker system I couldn’t see a way back for him. Was so pleased to see him starting last night and he was great. He’ll need a goal soon though, with Walker back

A complete no mark with far too much time on his hands belittling the record a professional player to try and score some internet points.

As for your sneering 'some of us are bemused' comment, judging by the majority of comments on sky blues talk you are absolutely in the minority.

Far more importantly - Robins and Viveash - who I assume even someone as narcissistic as yourself would concede know far more about football than you do - selected Max on Friday night and he delivered for us. You might also want to look at the comments of Hamer etc. - again I'm sure he knows more about the value of Max than you do.

Problem with that Adge is that Paul Cook was waxing lyrical about Max's technique in trying to slot that away; I assume you would concede that ex-professionals have some idea as to what they are talking about?
