odd when i mentioned China and genocide of was accused by the left on here of talking nonsense

My answer was a bit tongue in cheek because I'm not sure how you'd judge most despotic.

There are far worse, but they're not world super powers.
I don't think their foreign policy is as bad as the States but domestically they've got a lot of questions to answer. Their human rights record is appalling.

But like a lot of these regimes it's their own people who suffer most.
You've obviously got the Uighyur concentration camps and the Hong Kong situation. They can't be defended.

Can’t remember if I’ve talked about this on here but saw a depressing but probably accurate post on Twitter about the Uighyur thing.

Basically saying the only reason we stopped the Holocaust was because Germany started invading other countries. If they’d kept it in Germany we’d probably have left them too it with similar noises to what we’re making now about the Chinese.

We’ve got fuck all leverage over the Chinese and they know it. We’ve played right into their hands for decades because we think we’re special, not sure what you can do now but go along for the ride and hope for the best. It’s that or change our economic model away from cheap shit and consumption. So basically it’s that.

Dunno. Dunno much about the WHO either.

What I do know is.

Pandemics aren't an uncommon thing.

Jumping from animal to human isn't uncommon.

Therefore, the most likely conclusion is that this is a natural phenomena, exacerbated by modern shrinking of the world.

All true.....

but its one hell of a coincidence isn't it? ....or rather a series of massive coincidences....

Wuhan is the epicentre of a novel coronavirus.
There are no earlier cases recorded anywhere on the planet than in Wuhan.
The first (official) outbreak was less then 500m from the class 4 lab.
That class 4 lab specialises in the capture, study & manipulation of novel coronaviruses.
Wuhans hospital activity was satellite mapped and noted as highly active as far back as Sept. 2019.
The Chinese state continuously use huge amounts of subterfuge to cover their activities whether that be the "re-education" of 1m+ muslims, the enslavery of entire ethnic groups, the enforcement of a police state on HK etc .etc.

.....still, nothing to see here apparently......probably just some dodgy frozen meat they reckon......

Well my theory.

It was all kicking off in Hong Kong. China was not shown in a good light at all. Woukdnt suprise me if this wasn't an accidental leak of the virus designed to suppress the tensions there but it all went tits.

Just taking my tin foil hat off now

Or it was a botch up of containment at the lab facility and the government in their panic decided to cover it up rather than come clean.

Well just to be clear, I'm not suggesting any mad conspiracy or planned releases or any such nonesense.....

...I just suspect another cover-up by the chinese state regarding an accidental biosecurity lapse.

I'm pretty sure I'd also be fairly suspicious if a deadly outbreak of something being studied/modified/weaponised broke out at a coffee shop just up the road from Porton Down to to be fair...

EDIT:

Yep...its virus after all.....we're not talking some geezer in raybans sneaking a test tube out under his raincoat.....

.......were just one faulty fume cupboard away from disaster man!

10 years in jail for going abroad.
No holidays until everyone is jabbed.

I just don't believe anything they say anymore.

Yes, the virus is extremely deadly to certain parts of the population, but still, deaths in healthy people under the age of 60 are still in the hundreds. No, I'm not a 'covid-denier', but this thing is not going to be 'over', ever, the way they are carrying on.

Lockdowns every winter can fuck off, too.

I agree with you.

At least we didn't get commie Corbyn and ended up like East Germany

Mum gets her first tomorrow. That’ll be everyone in my house bar me and the kids done then.

Not been paying attention. What’s all this about not removing lockdown? Surely once everyone’s vaccinated it’s job done? What’s the rationale?

I think we need to resist the calls that are going to start demanding lockdown loosen over the next couple of weeks. I’m struggling with it as much as the next person but I don’t want to have to lock down again. Let’s kick this fucker this time. Get our cases down to nearly 0 and vaccine everybody then we don’t have to worry again. I don’t want to go to the pub for a week only for it to be denied again for another 6 months.

Yeah I think most of us can buckle down for one last push while we vaccinate. Just seeing people talking about no sports for two years and lockdowns every winter.

I just don't believe it. If they want to lock us down they will. There is no reason to extend lockdown beyond the end of March.

My doctors is starting back up with vaccinations again this weekend. They've been on hold for a while despite saying they had stock of vaccine and just needed the go ahead from NHS England. Assume there was a concern about getting enough doses for peoples second jabs and they were being held back.

They're into group 5 so hopefully not too long before I get mine in group 6.

Is the lockdown thing just the media whipping up a storm? Think people are interchanging restrictions and lockdown. Experts saying some restrictions might remain is very different to saying we'll be locked down for years. Frankly there's things like increased hygiene, more personal space and people staying at home or wearing masks if sick that they can keep in place forever as far as I'm concerned.

Completely agree. Would rather have a few extra weeks lockdown now than go too soon and mess it up.

If the pattern follows last year and things get better as we get towards summer given that will tie in with when we have a good chunk of the population vaccinated that seems the time to start easing restrictions.

Its never going to be an overnight open everything which some people seem to be expecting.

Of course, it would just be nice to go to a restaurant and support those who must have been through the financial ringer. Though being consistent l won’t argue for school reopening after hospitality.

With schools I hope they use common sense, although haven't seen much of that so far, and if we're getting towards the end of the school year just call it a day. Hope they don't do something like get everyone back in for the last couple of weeks of term and then send everyone off for the summer break.

My view is if they just wait until the summer term they could get a whole term in under close to ‘normal’ classroom conditions. By that point (mid April), our vaccine progress may well have reached a good % of secondary parents.

It would be worth putting that as an aspiration at least, and reviewing mid-March
