For what it's worth, Ben Wilson ranks number 8 for average goals conceded per 90 minutes in the Championship (1 goal per 90, 18 starts). Marosi ranks 29 out of 30 (1.75 goals per 90, 16 games). I'm really not sure this is the big issue people are making it out to be. Scoring goals consistently has been the bigger problem recently.

Stats also show RCC to be better than Bill Glazier

Wilson seems to have a particular issue on those deep, outswinging free kicks from wide areas

Can think of 2 examples (Sheff Wed away and last night) where he’s started to come, stopped, retreated to his line and they’ve scored.

Decision making has been pretty poor from set pieces generally, I doubt Marosi would have done much better as we’ve all seen what he’s like on balls into the box, Cardiff game as the most recent example

Think most agree we’ll need to be looking at an upgrade next season if the budget allows

I honestly do not think there is much between both of our goalkeepers currently - make of that what you will.

Marosi would have "messed up" if you viewed it that way just as badly as Wilson undoubtedly for the first goal.
Personally I thought it was a very very good delivery that does put defences/goalies in two minds.

I think Wilson has done well and had earned his stint as our number one this season - however that being said it was not his best game by a long way yesterday - he was not alone - and I think would bring Marosi back for Derby and hope he makes a better fist of making the number one shirt his own than his last performance which I feel was far worse than Wilson's - the punch for the Cardiff goal.....well if Wilson had done that.....#justsaying!
A very sensible post!
Despite last night - where even Robins said that the delivery "was right on the money" Wilson is better than Marosi at coming for balls into the box.

People who say balls into the six yard box are the keepers all day long (it's easy to say and they will have heard others say it!) are very mis-informed.

Your first sentence is bang on. There isn't much between them. Said many times, both not really Championship level keepers and Robins has actively been looking to bring in experience (not Camp)

Can't blame him for the second. Absolute shite went on all around him including right in front of him.

Still think we'll see him in on Saturday.

Camp!!!
Ask our good pals from Sunderland about Camp.
They're not at all impressed with Burge but most are of the opinion that he's miles better than Camp.
Camp was brought in as emergency cover only , as soon as Marosi was back we let him go

Yep & just look at all these clubs with injured goalkeepers now fighting over signing up Lee Camp... Oh....

Stats distorted by the early part of the season when we didn't know the league and shipped too many in. Imo MM is the better but we still need an upgrade next season on both. Either way I think he was brought back too soon, but chopping and changing each time will do the confidence of neither anybgood or of the defenders playing in front of them. If Marko does come in, then at this stage I think he should be told the shitt is his until the end of the season no matter what.

Marosi stays on his line then puts himself in a position to make the save. Wilson neither deals with the ball or attempts to make the save. Marosi is twice the keeper Wilson will ever be.

Still, defensively we clearly aren't doing too badly. Bigger issues have been the other end of the pitch.

Marosi is the better keeper but he looked very dodgy when returning from injury.

Don't know if it was psychological or if it was even something as simple as the mask distracting him, but he didn't look right.

Both are rubbish on crosses though, it's by far Marosi's biggest weakness.

isn’t the point though that Marosi was dropped after the Cardiff game for making a similar error that Wilson made for the first goal? A consistent approach wd see a change of personnel.

Our entire style of play last season was built on a solid defence that gave away few chances so the few goals we scored counted.

We’ve now got a defence good for 1/2 gimme goals a game.

Wilson is not a good keeper. If Marosi has recovered physically and mentally from getting his face caved in he must go back in.

I addressed that point in my e-mail Jimmy Hills Beard if you read it properly you will see that I said I would bring Marosi back for Derby but he would need to improve drastically on his Cardiff performance and wrestle the no1 shirt back from Wilson.

Besides that was not the main point - the main point initially of the thread was many wrote Wilson off before he even played a league game properly and think most admit that they undervalued him and his performance exceeded their expectations - the lad has done reasonably well.

The second point was Grendel had gone in two footed after having to wait a few weeks to crucify him for an arguable error of judgement from a very good delivery in the Boro game labelling him the worst ever goalkeeper to play for Coventry City......Mark82 then presented stats to demonstrate that statistically Wilson has been best goalie this season....Grendel then tried to say stats are misleading which in a way leads me to believe he thinks in reality Max better than Walker as stats can be misleading......when it suits.....

I have been commenting on Wilson for weeks. He’s useless.

Why on earth is Robins persisting with Wilson

He is down there with the early championship years of Dubec Hykdegard and Shearer and even worse than Burge

He’s actually other than Avromovic the worst keeper I’ve seen at the club. He’s got zero positional sense and looks like an outfield player put in goal

If robins persists with this idiot we are down - surely he’s finished after the debacle yesterday
Great support of one our players as usual is there any player in ure opinion worthy of wearing the city shirt ?

I think useless is incredibly harsh - don't think there is much between either keeper currently as I have said.
We probably need better if we stay up and go again next season.

Wilson will have benefited and learned a lot from his experience in the first team he should probably be the cheap back up goaiie option.

Marosi I am hoping after his injury and a few more weeks rest as back up now will kick on, improve and once again make the number one jersey his own. There is nothing wrong with him needing to fight for place again and he needs to improve on his Cardiff showing which I hope he will.

If Marosi does improve then great but if not think we need a better goalie next season as no1 and then to sell/release one of Wilson and Marosi.

Fatso I think that's probably fair in my book!

Though I do hope that one of them probably Marosi could improve to be good enough for this level.

I assume he answer to your first line is Marosi is not fully fit.

Totally unfair to call Wilson an idiot.

It's a possibility but Maroši has never been comfortable with crosses. I know for a fact this was recognised by MR & the recruitment team when signing him but it was decided his ability to play out was more important to our success (you'd have to say that was correct).

It was believed that in League One we could cover for Maroši's deficiencies with having big, dominant centre backs like McFadz & employing a zonal marking system, thus allowing Maroši to stay on his line & attempt to make a save if required. I think this worked fantastically well last year but has been 'found out' a little at Championship level where you have some excellent set piece oriented teams with an incredibly consistent, quality delivery which is very difficult to deal with.

We conceded a lot of goals early on this season with the zonal marking so adapted somewhat to more of a hybrid system where some players man mark whilst others still defend danger areas & whilst it has improved a bit it's still obviously a weakness.

I don't think Maroši is all of a sudden going to develop into a keeper who will regularly come off his line & improving the back line may not solve it either. I'd definitely like a new keeper for next season if we can find suitable in our budget.

Was just too soon and he was played out of necessity.

Yep. We concede on average 1 goal a game since Wilson has been in goal, which is better than average but still not good enough because we don't score at a higher rate than that. Wilson has made mistakes and we need to look to improve at the position but he's by no means the reason we aren't winning more games.

Bonkers how stats can be used when it's suits, but misleading when it doesn't.

In fairness, I've said it before but Save Percentage is probably the most unreliable stat there is.

I am happy enough with what Wilson has done for us though, been far better than anyone expected. He certainly did enough during Maroši's absence to retain the jersey, big decision for MR now for the run in.

Yes but Wilson has had on average 2 shots per game. The stat differential is entirely down to us tightening up

Yeah, absolutely. It's a team game after all. His save percentage is pretty good though, but depends what counts as a shot.

Bottom line, we need to improve at the position but it's not him as an individual that means we are not winning more games (or losing less).
