Southgate himself said in terms of
qualification we are in a good place , he also said we were good against Croatia.

That's fair enough but he's easily pleased

Those to points are valid; where I think Southgate may well get it wrong is an unwillingness to change out of form established players. It has been easy to omit Henderson, Maguire on the basis of fitness, but I am concerned he will remain loyal to players who aren't performing. Kane being the obvious one (he spends half the game near the centre circle spraying Beckham style passes out to the wings/full backs = stay up front if you're the centre forward-particularly when we have 2 defensive centre midfielders). Only accommodating one player from Grealish, Foden, Bellingham, Sancho is borderline idiocy. Woke up this morning totally deflated with that performance, If we get knocked out in the next round I want him gone. He is a nice bloke, but far too conservative. Some people level that at MR, but the difference is the quality of players at his disposal.

The bigger picture is that we’ve all but confirmed qualification to the next round, regardless of the result against Czech.

Then, it’s knock out football and anything can happen. Portugal scrapped out of the Group in 3rd and won the tournament.

A few things that really concern me:

1) Kane’s form, we’re not getting him into the game enough because our buildup is too slow and passive.

2) Chances given up. Despite the two defensive pivots, we conceded too many chances that better teams would score. The reasoning for Phillips and Rice is shore us up defensively.

3) Passive in the press. Similar to the last point, but we really didn’t harass Scotland on the ball enough. Despite being a talent, Gilmour getting MOTM tells me we did not put any pressure on him.

4) Aerial battle. Do they not know how to defend high balls in the Prem? Stones and Mings were seemingly beaten in air every time by Dykes. We know even McFadz, Ostigard and Hyam can defend him.

Hopefully we can address some of this stuff going forward.

It was frightening how a lot of players looked like they were running through treacle. I know conditions were poor but quite a few didn’t look fit

Dreadful display last night. Serious lack of joined up thinking in how the players fit the system, and that played out exactly with Sterling and Foden both coming inside, Kane dropping deep and Mount being in the 10 there was no space to play. Full backs inexplicably decided to sit on the half way line and not get forward. Central midfield far too deep.

I think there has to be far more acceptance in fitting the players to the system. If Kane plays then we can’t really afford to play Mount and Foden behind, and instead need another winger willing to run in behind. But if you want to see more of Foden, Grealish, etc then Calvert-Lewin needs to come in. Painful really but Kane is reverting to type far too easily and reminds me of Rooney with his “creativity” stubbornness.

Full backs, I bet Southgate wishes he’d stuck with Walker and Trippier and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them back in v Czech. With the system Scotland played it was crucial to get at their wing backs but we did nothing out wide and both full backs and wingers were culpable.

This tournament will be decided on the basis of using 5 subs per match and given our plethora of attacking options it’s criminal to only use 2 subs. Overall, pathetic.

We could well lose to the Czechs, Schick is in form and they'll be more clinical than Scotland were. Wouldn't be shocked if we scrape through in 3rd and for Southgate to view it as a success

Finishing second would be a better outcome in truth

As bad a performance I’ve seen at that level he was a embarrassment

Too young to remember Geoff Thomas and Luther Blissett then

Could be wrong but doesn’t the winner of one usually get the runner up of another?

No as there are third place teams as well - i have checked its correct so probably end up with Sweden - win the group probably Portugal

The CZ game will resolve one way or another - we don’t qualify Southgate gets his P45 - we qualify and put a passable display in against one of the big 5 and he gets a knighthood

It's the knock out stages where Gareth needs to bring his A game avoid injuries in the group stage is the main thing they were always going to come out of that group

At this point I think he's lost the plot .

Too frantic and not patient enough , I've been more frantic after morphine

If you cant win then don't lose? ...that's a dire interview

Seems Alec Ferguson had a Ronnie Pickering moment in the car park at Wembley when he wasn’t allowed in the VIP car park 😂

Complete cliched dross.

If we didn’t have enough to break them down then why only make two subs?

Oh we had more than enough to break them down. It’s just a lot tougher under the restrictions of dull management. Southgate deserved criticism at HT. The second half really did him no favours.

In which case yes a 0-0 draw is ironically suitable this time
Finish second and we’d have to play France in the quarters in St. Petersburg and then most likely Belgium or Italy in the semis. At least we’d have home advantage if we won the group and would be on the easier side of the draw, even if we did have a tough round of 16 game.

Mental that you wouldn’t want to win the group.
