I guess Thorn should be sacked because it was only 4 and we conceded one. I just couldn't resist, especially after Tuesday nights craziness.

It was craziness. We were woefully inept and shockingly dreadful.

It's a pre-season friendly, we didn't gain any points today and we didn't lose any on Tuesday. If we get upset that we lose a meaning friendly then maybe we should get rid of them and have our first match be the Dagenham cup game. We beat Hinckley 8-0 people were saying we will walk the league, lose to Wrexham then we need to sack the manager before we get relegated. People need to chill out and forget out pre-season results, its the league that matters.

None of my posts on the issue have said pre season results matter.

Spot on here.

If today's result shows anything it's that pre-season results mean shit. The most important thing is what is learnt from them, not the result itself.

It's nice to hear that we looked more comfortable today in Thorn's preferred diamond formation but what he learnt from our previous matches would have been more important.

My biggest concern is whether or not we are going to be able to hit the ground running with a team that has a completely new and untried core to it. I'd be surprised if we didn't struggle, certainly at the start. Talent can get you so far but you need familiarity too. Something that many our rivals will have over us.

Patience is what is needed; the inevitable expectation that comes fresh off a relegation won't help that.

Another thread created by a teenage dullard.

I'm 25 mate and by the way, for those interested, I only posted this to see if all of you Thorn haters who love to post your "Sack Thorn Now" threads every time we lose were still around. You lot make me laugh especially as I never hear any one at the Ricoh chanting for Thorn to be sacked. Stay in the minority and be sad.

Minority?

A lot of people were thinking Thorn wasnt good enough last season, not many are judging friendlies!

It seems that when we win thorn is great but when we lose sisu are bad!

We will soon see when we play yeovil :)

It's amazing how I haven't heard any Thorn out chants of any kind at the Ricoh since he's been in charge. May be if you don't like it, call for his head at the games. You said people didn't like him last year, as a season ticket holder all I remember is how fans chanted the team and the manager all season even when we got relegated. Every pundit on T.V says the same thing that Andy Thorn has a tough job because on the situation with the board (i.e meaning SISUs lack of investment). But some of the Coventry fans on here and on phone-ins seem to think that no matter what obstacles are in his way it is all his fault and instead of tell their feeling at the Ricoh they decide to put there thoughts on here.

So, in short, all the Coventry fans calling for Thorns head think they know better then the experts but won't express their feeling of the situation at the ground but only on here.

Nobody thinks it is ALL his fault, obviously sisu and the players were to blame also!

A lot of people like him so look past negatives, the same as mcsheffrey!

Bollocks. That's a common claim made by AT supporters with no basis in fact. If you think AT is making the most out of what he has, fine; just don't assume that those who disagree have expectations of FA Cup glory or whatever.

He can't say what he really thinks because if he did he wouldn't keep his job. He thinks he can get us promoted and I think if we got behind him and hope SISU do to then maybe he will.

McSheffrey last year was disappointing and what made it worse was he was top goalscorer. But that has its positives too. Hopefully he can show why Birmingham paid 4 million for him all them years ago. I think League One will be an exciting league for Coventry this year and maybe this year we can be celebrating at the end of it.

Thorn got upset.

Maybe we should get rid of him?

What's so wrong with being in the minority.

To be fair, even the most hardened of Thorn supporters are becoming cynical. I have defended Thorn, especially as he seemed to learn as the season progressed, but it seems we still have a few of the same issues we had last season. We still have no real leadership on the pitch which, to me, is a major reason as to why we got relegated.

A number of reasons people still have concerns. Friendly or no friendly you still want a half decent performance from your team.

No-one is that bothered that we lost those previous two friendly games. Losing friendlies isn't a problem, it is the manner of losing the friendlies. We were apparently bloody dreadful in both games.

Then there is still stuff such as playing McDonald as a right winger and Billy Daniels as a holding midfield player. Thorn also got very angry about those last two defeats so that doesn't exactly fill you with optimism either.

It's a new season and fresh start for him, but niggling doubts will always remain until he starts to turn things round and us into a winning side.

It is only pre-season mind. We need the season to start, simple as. Everything at the moment can only be based on pre-season and what happened last season mind. That's all we've got.

Win or lose pre-season doesn't matter let's not get carried away but let's not get idiots saying sack thorn after a friendly chelsea lost 3-1 to brighton yesterday should they sack RDM

We tried a different system out for the other games. It sounds like it was actually the 4-2-3-1 that I'd been hoping he'd try that we seemed utterly awful at.

So if it took a few friendlies to find a system that worked then job done. It's a shame that it was the diamond as I hate that formation, but if the cap fits...

I'm not wavering from my 5th prediction and won't depending on how the next few friendlies go either. Whether its a forum or the phone in after the games it's always the biggest knee jerkers that shout the loudest.

Possibly...but after every win there is often a post, "To All the Thorn Haters" and if we lose a post usually in relation to "Thorn Out"

I feel like its Groundhog day. Still gives us something to dicsuss, again and again and .....

We got relegated because the overall quality of the players available wasn't up to the required standard. Yes, the manager has made mistakes, but I don't think there is a manager or coach in world football who could have kept that sorry lot up last season.

This is what I mean though Otis.

Being bloody awful... playing players in different ('wrong') positions... it's all part and parcel of pre-season... It's 'trial and error', switching players and formations.

No coincidence then that we looked more comfortable in what is presumably the favoured diamond formation.

Pre-season results are meaningless, it's what is learnt from watching them that matters.

The biggest concern for me is our players' lack of familiarity with each other. We're going to need patience; and calls for the manager's head in pre-season is worrying to say the least.

I've never known fans so split on a manager.

The most unreasoned thinking that gets my goat is the insistance to refer back to his previous job. People do progress in life. There are unreasoned responses the other way too, and yes we are very much in the realm of the unknown at present, but we need to just wait and see.

Nothing wrong with trying things out - Jack Rodwell played CB for Everton Academy and now plays more or a box to box midfield role at Everton. A lot of players start out in differen positions - McPake was a striker originally :/

Maybe because beating Accrington as we should provokes less reaction than getting dicked by Wrexham. Admittedly i m looking at it from a sensible point of view rather than a "everybody bar me wants us to lose" approach

And i would agree totally if it was just a pre-season phenomenon, but it happens regardless of the opposition and time of year.

But what is there to debate if we win? You get just as much post match reaction when we win but it dies quicker. Thats because after the initial joy you then relax and look forward to the next game. When we lose there is more to consider, where did we go wrong, tactics, how do we stop it happening next time. I refuse to entertain the idea that people spend hundreds of pounds a year in the hope of seeing us fail. Why? Because its nuts

Guess the two results show how ridiculous it is to try and judge anything by pre season.

Judging it by exits and arrivals for me at the moment.

Feel less confident than a couple of weeks ago.

There is a definate shift towards height been key it seems
