How long do we give it before it goes out of business? Apart from Matchday, there is nobody ever in there. I doubt Dhillions would continue to support a boozer that loses money. £19.95 for all you can eat chicken legs, not long before it's a Chinese buffet again.

Guess it depends how they market it. Do they get people in on weekend nights?

Do many people go in Rileys or the golf place during the week?

Not sure it was ever going to really be many people's local.

Think they've gonna over the top from the pictures with the CCFC stuff, could do it a fair bit more subtly to attract other punters. Who wants to sit on stadia seating in a pub.

Talking about this the other day, I reckon they should just shift it slightly to a more general sports bar. It should be able to bring in loads of money as you have all the student places round there.

Everywhere around Chapelfields/Earlsdon is quieter then pre-corona. So it may just be one of those things where it takes time to get people back down the pubs.

If there is football on TV, it's probably the type of place that is good to watch games, but if you want to go to a pub, you'd probably just to go a pub.
Not really the kind of place you'd go for drinks on a night out, bit of a weird one as it's quite niche.

Imagine it would have done quite well during the Euro's if it was open

It depends on the night out, back in the day there was places like the Orange House etc where you could go in town to watch football and make a day of it.

The only issue now is that Jumpin Jacks is for 12-year-olds and they aren't really the target market.

Need to get our youth academy scouts down Jaks

Got there at 11pm last Saturday after Godiva. Place was dead & was told last orders had passed... Thought it closed at 12!

Every time I talk about it, my phrase is 'where is the money coming from'... The only place expanding during the pandemic!

Was talking to someone senior in there, (perhaps the manager), after Barnsley and he was saying they do see it as a general sports bar.
I'd imagine it's difficult to market it as such however when it's so overtly CCFC.

I think theyll have to do something about their pricing.

Looks like they are trying to push going in to watch sport.

If it's for a general bar, most people would prefer Spires surely?

Yep, cant see it ever being a local, maybe for those blokes in the hats, not many more though

There’s a gap in the market for a good sports bar in Coventry. Nowhere in town is good to watch the footy anymore.

They need to attract the resident student crowd.... who else lives near the ring road?!

I’m sure there’s potential for customers reduce prices during the week and people will go there . It’s going to busy on a match day and away games if they show them .

100% agree. Need a chain like hooters to come in and get it sorted. Would have been perfect in the old co-op building in town.

They have that wall of tat by the tables with an old cricket bat and some random balls. But to think it's anything other then a ccfc bar is pritty silly on their behalf.

Agree on the pricing.

No idea if they're the same Dhillons, but there's a house near me that has a bunch of cars with personalised number plates - Bentley, Porsche Cayenne, Merc, BMW...

If so, they're doing alright and if not, then I ain't arguing with whoever lives in that house and thinks he can park his Bentley on the street day and night without risk to it!

We have been in for the last 2 Mondays. Only the 4 of us in there on both occasions. Food is nice but expensive and limited. Place wont last 5 minutes. The footfall isn't enough for that part of the city.

I made several suggestions during my interview for a job there such as discount for season ticket holders and showing classic games/highlights but fell on deaf ears and i didn't get the job. Their loss not mine.

I really cannot see it surviving in its current state.

It'll be fine. It's freshers week soon, and then students back en masse; they are bound to benefit from that during the week if they are screening live games, regardless of the CCFC theme.

They have just started to market the upstairs function room, so I'm sure they'll have regular stuff in there, plus the matchday revenues. They may have to adjust opening times, staffing, pricing etc. but it'll be fine. Selling their own beer will also help I guess - but on that note, the quality of the beer does need to improve - it's not good at all. You'd think that would be the least of their worries.

The location is a bit annoying for me personally, but they’re sky blue mad and pushing the brand, as well as giving the fans somewhere they can resonate with, probably with a little financial help from the club. I couldn’t care less that it’s OTT with sky blues memorabilia and history, I think I’d actually prefer it that way.

Dhillons brewery near the ground has also had a real buzz about it for the opening two games, queues aside (which they rectified after having only one bar at the Forest game), honestly can’t fault it.

They’ve invested at the right time, whilst we’re on our upward trajectory toward the promised land and feel good factor around the place. I can’t imagine it would’ve been met with the same appeal during the turgid Championship or Russell Slade era. It’s still early days for the tavern so hopefully it will go from strength to strength.

Do student like paying £5 a pint?

Too swanky and expensive, football is a working man's game. Give me a pint of Carling Premier and a ham batch and i'd go every evening!

For a brewery their beer selection is incredibly disappointing too.

Last few times I’ve been to the Spire Bar, they’ve only had their lagers on, and on a few occasions only one of those. They literally brew ale, why not have at least one on!

50/50 on the quality of the beer too.

Apparently they are going to change this soon. I don't mind the Unity Pale Ale and Fair Lady, but to not have them on draft is odd.

I thought Wetherspoons was sozzled old men stinking of piss and ranting on about Germans, rather than students.
More so the price bracket mate. The SBT will only attract a certain niche. Students will drink at home then go to a dingy basement bar where fingering is easy to get away with.

Rite of passage innit.
