First chunk in Robins impenetrable armour? (9 Viewers)

This most definitely NOT a post about getting rid of Robins but…

After attending last nights game I feel strongly that Robins (and his team) got it very wrong and their are signs that his tactical nous could be much better.

Firstly tactics-obvious from the start how Swansea lined up by pushing two wingers very very wide and hitting corners. Also Swansea had loads more bodies in midfield allowing them space to pass through and around us.

Point one-although our formation works I feel from time to time Robins needs to start with a different one-a back four or one up top just to make the opposition think for a change.

Point two-obvious to everyone that we have very tired players (who literally ran around chasing shadows for 90 mins) Robins has mentioned this in the past and he did again in post match interviews. So why the fook did Walker come on in the 88 minute and why didn’t O’Hare get taken off. Timely substitutes could have swayed that game. Knowing we have a game on Satdee as well Robins should have brought players off much much earlier. His game and season management could be better.

Only two things but I think quite major ones. We have the shown the ability to maintain a top half finish this season but only if Robins and his team learn from the glaring errors that have led to poor performance.

Plenty of fans disagree with you about Walker, who I rate btw, but he can go missing in games and you can forget he's on the pitch
Sometimes you have to give credit to the opposition who raced into a two goal lead and managed to hold us off for the rest of the game and made a few chances of their own as you'd expect when we're chasing the game
It's not as though we folded like we did at Luton
Swansea also have a good manager who maybe outfoxed Robins on the night
But there's another game on Saturday so let's hope we can get back on track

He got it wrong with Allen IMO, and I'd have brought Walker on earlier.

But in the same way players make mistakes so do managers. He'll learn from it I'm sure.

I just don’t agree on the out performing but when you look at some teams around us

Luton
Huddersfield
Blackpool
Millwall

Id have at the start of the season expected to finish ahead of most of those teams

We were playing with a flat back 5 for large periods of last night. We would have been better of with a back 4 and an extra man in midfield.

He definitely got it wrong with Allen, the game bypasses the midfield and there was often a huge hole in there.

We have been pretty average over the last 5 games now, winning only against a really poor Hull side on top of our poor away form yet we have not tried anything different - the box for example.

We seem to have plan A and plan B is just plan A but with like for like replacements.

The Jones sub looked odd, but I thought there were glimpses of a player still which will come with more game time. But we need to find a plan b and a system tweak to get the best out of him.

Robins is our king, but should not be immune to criticism.

We were playing with a flat back 5 for large periods of last night. We would have been better of with a back 4 and an extra man in midfield.

On this theme I wanted to see Sheaf on for one of the centre backs in the second half, to play the role he did against Reading.

Sit in the back 3 and bring the ball out of defence and also look for a ball over the top, as there was numerous times one of the CBs had possession and the ball over the top was on but they didn't spot it (or back themselves to pull it off)

We had quite a few opportunities last night, to put balls through to our strikers. Very poor passes from Hamer & O’hare screwed that up, and we were then back to desperate defending.

quite a few opportunities for balls over the top of their defence when our strikers or AM made good runs, all ignored.

poor crosses from Dabo is another issue.

we won’t win matches against good teams by continually giving the ball away. That’s been a feature of our play a lot this season. We need to improve our passing a lot to become a better team.

MR shouldn't be immune from criticism at all. However, and a point I've made before, if people on this forum (who are not qualified football coaches, likely with little/no experience of coaching at all) can say what they think is wrong, why do they - not a dig at you FB - why do they think MR and his team don't see the same things?

The Walker situation is bizarre mind.

But we're 4th in the table and going through a relative rocky patch. We're going to have them over the season so until we're less than 16th in the table and playing turgid football, I personally will just shrug my shoulders at results like last night and get onto the next game.

Jones has been going well in training from what I've heard, banging in goals in training games and volunteering for the U23s to get game time
I guess the plan is to bring him in gradually which makes sense

Both Allen and O'Hare would push up and we would lose it, they would instantly go on the counter attack which left Hamer outnumbered.

Usually when we have Sheaf or Kelly and Hamer then they can go side to side and help fill in with the wing backs a bit.

Fuck knows why he thought it was a good idea to throw Jones in, give him 10 minutes when we are easily winning games like other teams too.

No one knows the arrangements but clubs want players to get game time or the wage contribution gets higher and we may have decided we do not want a higher wage contribution so he and Maatsen will start when fit and available

Maatsen can understand he’s the best option by a mile at the club but I would be concerned if we agreed similar for Clarke Salter

A night where Kelly should have been in. Gyokeres is not on his game at all. Moore was shaky possibly because of what was going on in front of him.
A night where the 2nd goal was offside and the officials were poor, the linesmen had no idea about who should get throw ins and there were several foul throws from both teams and the ref was inept throughout.
Win on Saturday and we are back on track.

I think this was rectified of sorts in the second half. Seemed like JCS stepped over to LB and Maatsen took up more of an orthodox winger position. That said, Swansea weren’t overly interested in pressing for more goals by that point.

Said for a while that Robins…. AND THE COACHING STAFFS…. Substitutions have been poor and very late at times. The derby game for example was crying for something to change as derby were getting a grip of the game. It’s always too late and we are either pegged back or chasing the game. We need to read the game better at times. Last nights changes were bizzare and dog and duck.

I said the same about Southgate and he’s coaching staff letting him down in the euro final …feel the same at city but let’s not blame robins all the time as the coaching staff need to be more proactive and have the confidence to throw in there inputs. I don’t think that’s happening in the middle of a game recently.

I actually think we miss Waghorn for his link play. He was being used more as a No 10, but with Godden back in, we have 2 out & out Centre Forwards. We do have some deeper squad issues though, with no left footed centre half to compete with JCS, and no left wing back to compete with Maatsen. Also the lack of cover for O'Hare, although I thought JJ showed some flashes last night. If he feels he needs to freshen it up on Sat, I am not sure Walker, Kane, Sheaf & Kelly coming in would make us any better
