Yeah, of course people with Omicron will unfortunately be hospitalised and die. I can’t believe people are quoting low/zero figures when the variant has only just started spreading.

What we all need to know and hope the government/scientific advisors are honest about is; were these people vaccinated, how old were they and what’s the hospitalisation/mortality rate compared to delta

If it follows the pattern of previous new variants, vaccine efficacy against symptoms/infection will be reduced but protection against serious illness should remain unaffected. A critical difference compared to last year is of course that we only need people to get a booster for this effect as opposed to two jabs spaced apart.

Quietly confident

I'll be trying to book my booster for next week

I feel a bit aggrieved that I'll have had 3x covid jabs in 6 months and that I personally think the Omicron variant is overhyped by the UK media, but if it helps to do my bit to keep restrictions limited then so be it

How can you feel aggrieved about being given a vaccination that might well save your life? This is ridiculous. I am exceptionally grateful to have received mine.

I read somewhere that 6 people dies of omicron in sa 2 via accidents and had covid but 4 actually covid 3 were between 30/40 1 was 60+, look at dr john campbell on youtube.

Leaked documents say apparently there’s gonna be a lockdown come January the 5th - absolutely ridiculous if true

Yeah, I said something similar the other day. I’d heard 4th but 🤷‍♂️. Feels like jumping the gun and hope it’s just a precautionary plan. For me it should depend on hospitalisations over next two weeks in conjunction with SA data

Rather that than before NYE though, at least it gives hospitality a chance by having a full xmas period !

We don’t know what measures they’re talking about either though. Might well be increased restrictions/measures rather than ‘lockdown’

Mrs. Wisdom's workplace are having their meeting to decide whether the working from home where possible applies to them... tomorrow.

Nothing like a flexible working contract eh...

Talking about unions, Unison's NEC has been on fire recently.

Here is a portion of one NEC report.

"...We then moved to obituaries. One obituary resulted in a ‘final message’ from a deceased UNISON
member being read out by an NEC member. This message was to the effect that all the members of
the NEC were as bad as each other: ‘you’re all a pack of bastards’. ..."

The teaching unions haven’t really helped our cause by wanting everyone masked up all day, one way systems, staggered breaks etc. They should be campaigning for children not to have to isolate.

When it comes to unreasonable working conditions that should be the union’s bread and butter. Hopefully they can intervene for NW’s missus.

To be fair, if you read it they said it isn't confirmed they are in hospital because of the variant.....

Just depends how things get spun either way.

It is very difficult to have an open conversation about it as there is a lot of emotion involved I know, but about the age thing, people really do need to get some perspective. Of course, there are exceptions, and nothing is for granted, but have a look at these numbers here. This is regarding the data in the Netherlands which shows that since the beginning of time - 162 people have died of Covid under the age of 49.

And before anyone says, ´so you don´t care about old people´, please don´t try that deflection. It is boring, juvenile, and not true.

But again, resources are taken up by hospitalisation too. My best mate's brother-in-law is 39 and not dead, but used up more resources than if he had been dead. It's also worth noting that figures would be depressed by the measures we've taken and, without them, they'd have been, and would be going forward, substantially higher.

I've just realised how we stop people getting and dying from cancer!

If we stop testing and identifying it no-one can be said to have it or die from it.

No need to thank me - just glad to do my bit for mankind.

Again from the other side, if everybody was tested for flu instead and died within 28 days the flu deaths would shoot up.

Numbers can be manipulated either way.

I wish cancer could be tested for do easily though and so often.

Also,

"...Meanwhile, analysis by the UK Health Security Agency has showed a dramatic drop in effectiveness for the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine and a significant drop-off for two doses of Pfizer against Omicron.
But a third booster vaccine dose was analysed to prevent about 75% of people from getting any Covid symptoms. ..."

Yeah that's strange wording.

That's saying booster effective against covid symptoms are saying about omicron.
