He’d probably go up in a few peoples estimations !!

As NW indicated with Major, it’s not like Johnson tries to hold himself up as the beacon of virtue.

I think that’s what people miss sometimes. We’re a tolerant country and most will give people passes for their behaviours, we’re all human afterall, but what pisses them off is hypocrisy and lying, hence the uproar about partygate. It wasn’t the parties and the risk of Covid transmission that bothered people, it was the fact that No 10 made and implemented the rules and then lied

Exactly.

I was just saying how I think some people (not press) view behaviours and leeway that some will give

The right and left leaning press will always lean towards supporting their own up to a point

I’ve seen plenty of negative/damning articles from right as well as left leaning press about Johnson. They’re just not usually front page which they would be in the left leaning papers or if roles were reversed
Back to Basics under Major led to the press finding out every last drop of infidelity from Tory MPs, and it meant they all had to resign from government when uncovered.

Blair was more tolerant, so people in government were allowed more leeway in their private lives. It's the way it is.

PVA didn’t know about him so it can hardly be that publicised?

the press frequently talk about Johnson from all sides. Max Hastings once put a huge very damming article about him in the Mail and there’s never been an attempt to cover up his womanising

Corbyn was hounded far more mercilessly by the same press which is the point

Yes it was

Discussing what an ex Labour leader did or didn't do almost half a century ago feels a little pointless, but did you actually read that article?

It clearly states that he split with his wife before he and Abbott got together.

Also, how do the Tories have a reputation for economic competence? I’ll never understand it.

Easy answer to that. A sympathetic media that has perpetrated this myth for decades.

It's the lack of competence of this Government that gets me. All this talk of morality and hypocrisy I sort of understand but the real problem is that they really have no foresight or ability to manage anything effectively.

Jesus, this thread should be a lot bigger news. Particularly the Zahawi intervention.

From a former YouGov pollster about 2017 GE polling:

This is absolutely going to destroy trust in polling.

Oh dear.

That's somehow both absolutely shocking and yet totally unsurprising at the same time.

You do realise prior to that incident he had the camper van road trip and a curious incident when he introduced her to his chums on a campaign trail - when she was in his bed

He’s been married 3 times and his known to be very passionate about women and socialism

Oddly Ms Alvarez became has girlfriend the day after another divorce though he’d known her for some time

it’s hilarious how you calm others bootlickers when he head is so far up Sir Kormas rectum you can probably taste the pilau rice

For balance ;) I didn't really care who Corbyn slept with either, although I was kind of impressed that his principles were embedded enough he divorced one wife over the choice of school for their child!

Yep it’s a part of life and a fact of life but where it’s a pattern it’s more of a flag

Yes I’m sure that was the main reason😂 bit strange as well given Jezza went to
The same type of school - though it wasn’t a huge academic success

As shmmeee says, if he shags Mrs Miggins for a pie I don't really care. If he shags Irena Spymorova for official secrets, I might be concerned.

Johnson just going 'but Labour' at PMQs. To every question.

It's a futile exercise really isn't it.

He's just frothing and windmilling all over the place.

Switched on PMQs expecting Starmer to have a field day and go straight for Johnson's throat.

Bloody hell even with a gaping open goal in front of him, he's a truly shocking performer isn't he.

I'm not really sure how anyone can have trust in polling anyway. The whole brexit one should be a lesson on that really.

Why?

Polls showed it was about 50:50 and it was.

Polls showed remain was slightly edging it, and with the unfortunate circumstances before the voting date it was expected that the increase of a few days for more people to register to vote in the referendum would have favoured the remain camp slightly more.

Of the 12 Brexit polls released a week before referendum day, seven predicted a Remain victory, four predicted a Leave victory, and one was a dead heat. Only three polls showed a spread of more than five points. I (mis)remembered the Brexit polling as predicting a Remain victory across the board, but turns out I was wrong.

He seems to always hold back and looking down at his crib notes certainly doesn't help. Never the most spontaneous of leaders.

I think there is a margin of error in any poll.

Leave being +2, +1, +2, 0, +2
remain being +10, +6, +2, +4, +1, +7, +3, 0

Whilst not being across the board, and taking your figures as accurate, it does show a healthy remain lead in the final week.

The third or fourth result coming into the BBC studio is quite remarkable, where they may think it will go to leave. The mics caught it all.

Aren’t you the guy whose statistical model says Liam Kelly was one of our best midfielders last season?
