2 good goals. We definitely need more of those runs. The only 1 concern i have with palmer and o'hare at the top of the box is that neither particularly wants to make runs in behind the striker.

Actually I don't think he was as bad as most seem to and have seen many much worse players in my time play for Cov.

Can't seem to find the right place to forward the following WhatsApp chat I've just received from a Fester supporting mate of mine, but the title of this thread reminded me of days gone by when, if you wanted to go and watch a game of footie, you just racked up on the day.....


How about this then!!?
I purchased a ticket online for the Southampton home game to give a friend, a 85yr old gent who loves football, to have an afternoon out.
The club policy now is all home tickets bought online must be downloaded to an app on either an iPhone or smart phone, and used via the phone to enter the ground.
After spending literally 2 hours trying to get my head round a Google pay/ wallet app the ticket disappeared into the ether. After the biggest bullshite of a phone call to the club, it's my responsibility as the ticket can't be downloaded twice and as my pal only owns a basic phone, he has to use my phone for entry. Different turnstile, different part of the ground!!
1. He'll have my phone for the whole match.
2. He wouldn't have a clue how to operate it.
3. I've yet to get my head round were the ticket, QR code, or whatever it fuckin is, is hiding!!!
No hard copy, print options, available say the club.
I may have to take trip to the KP tomorrow and punch some twat!!😡😡
PS...
My phone savy son, daughter, or granddaughter can't solve it!!!!!

That is an interesting point and you maybe right on some players.
Julian Darby was a squad player at best and in my view fortunate to have played in top league.
Paul Telfer had his flaws but he was a fairly valuable player to Coventry and served us well.

Matt Le Tissier also called him the fittest player he'd ever played with, so good stamina/works hard + does what he's told = strengths that managers like that fans don't always see? Especially back then-nowadays there would be graphs galore showing his ground covered etc. He was a crap passer though, he gave it away so often, the statistics on that would hammer him.

Interestingly he played most of his career at Southampton-where he seems more popular than he is here-at RB. He did that a bit here, and RWB, but looked rubbish defensively.

Darby, to be honest, had a few nice touches up his sleeve, had perhaps 4 or 5 goals per season in him (if he had played a lot), but that was it.

All I really recall about him, from matches, is being anonymous for long periods and then being knocked off the ball quite easily. But then, that backheel to Strachan against Spurs, then Dublin leathering it past Ian Walker. 3-1, thanks for coming. 😎

We were simply magnificent that day. Spurs with Sheringham, Barmby, Klinsmann in their pomp couldn’t live with us.

Chris Marsden looked unfathomably brilliant to me in his loan spell. Does anyone have any concrete or otherwise reason/rumours for him not signing? I thought he was class against Swindon-OK it's just Swindon-just found the full match online and in the intro, Keys says "Chris Marsden was MOM in the 2-1 win at Spurs and his move is expected to be made permanent shortly". So why didn't it? What went on? Is it the "bit of a nutter" stuff we've all heard since? Because he could surely have filled an Ian Crook sized hole in our midfield for relative peanuts.

He had one hell of a simple PPM, as you see at the very start of this Stockport goal: get the ball, turn around in a circle, give it to teammate in space. He did it loads against Swindon and the crowd loved him. It may look like nothing, but it was better than Boland, Darby, Flynn etc could do:

He was obviously a key part of the Stockport side that went up from what is now L1 and was playoff-chasing in the division above the year after in 97/8. Dave Jones must have known how good he was to take his old player to Southampton and Hoddle certainly didn't discard him when he (in disgraceful circumstances) took over, and there was even a (not ironic) campaign for him to get an England call.

You have to presume that it was the off field stuff that led to him being in the lower leagues for another 7 years after our loan spell-he wasn't just a late bloomer, he had it when we had him. What a waste!

It really upsets me as we got a glimpse of what he had and he should have been OUR cult hero, not Southampton's! This goal just topped it off:

I might have to watch that Swindon game back later to see if I was just imagining him being so great!

EDIT: just before KO to the Spurs game, comms say "Word is that Coventry have been playing the passing game a lot more of late and were very impressive against Spurs." Yeah, cos of Marsden!

That month or so Chris Marsden and Julian Darby played together our midfield looked the business but in typical Coventry City stile they botched up the permanent signing of Marsden and once he left Darbys limitations were clear, just what happened re. Marsden I’ll never know left us to join lower division Wolves.

They didn’t botch it. off field reasons why he didn‘t want him.
