I didnt say cancel the next three Im against cancelling the next three Im only on about WBA
I know you weren't, but technically we will be in 10 days of official mourning, I dont expect it to happen, but theoretically it could be all suspended for the next 10 days which would be
WBA (H) - Saturday 10th
Luton (A) - Wednesday the 14th
Birmingham (A) Saturday 17th

I think the funeral is due to take place on Sunday 18th.

This is absolutely ludicrous. If anyone wants to mourn, they are free to do so, but the completely predictable death of a 96 year old shouldn’t mean the country has to come to a standstill. We’re not in the 19th century anymore.

I’m very sad at the loss of the Queen. She has been a constant in everyone’s lives for decades. I’m still not sure if cancelling the weekends sports fixtures is necessary though. I can hear all the kids going off to school today, my wife and daughter went off to work at UHCW this morning……Life does go on, no doubt we will all pause for the funeral and then reflect once more on the great lady.

I think it's very different to what may have happened during the war times. The whole country won't come to a standstill.

I am not sure why Football matches would be different to people going to work in Tesco this weekend.

I get the police may have to send people to London, however if the football clubs are paying for police presence they should still fulfill it.

Spot on. Probably right to cancel todays sporting events and for sure nothing should go ahead on the day of the funeral. But don’t force everyone to work and school but take their little bit of leisure at the weekend away.

Tasteful tributes along the lines of Remembrance Sunday before each game tomorrow would be adequate imo.

I'm genuinely saddened by this news, but as far as I can tell everyone is at work today. Tomorrow, people will be on the High St shopping; pubs will be open, restaurants running as normal and people will be going to the movies. Why is it only football that has to make these grand gestures? Also, football bring communities together, so there would have been some really nice scenes tomorrow and people would have raised a glass.

It seems this benefits nobody, certainly those who have spent good money on non-refundable train and hotel bookings; or local businesses who will have stocked up on food and drink, some of which will now have to given away or thrown away because it won't last until October 1st. Doesn't make much sense tbh.

Well yeah, like with Remembrance Day there are nice scenes across the country. Minutes silence with national anthem, job done.

There's absolutely no reason to cancel football, I bet it will only be a political reason that it does get cancelled anyway.

I don't understand why not playing football = respect. You can feel what you feel and still do other things. We're not all going to be at home wiping tears from our eyes. Everyone is at work today as normal. Games should go ahead but something tells me they won't

I still don't get what it achieves!
as far as I can tell with the cricket all it has achieved is upsetting loads of people who had booked travel and hotels which they can't get refunded and led people to wonder what they're planning for day 3,4 and 5 given there's not been a single ball on day 1 or 2.

Exactly.

Who is making the decisions? What reasoning do they actually give?

Think there needs to be some pragmatism here.

Lots of people within sport that are freelance that rely on this income. Fans have also made plans and forked out to attend fixtures.

Pubs and businesses within the local economy will also suffer. Selfishly, but the club really can't afford to endure yet another postponement either.

Plenty of ways to show respect to the Queen that doesn't involve forfeiting income. People/businesses shouldn't have it forced upon them. It's completely draconian and old fashioned.

Exactly, it isn't 1867.

If that's the case, everything should be shut down. Shops not allowed to open, people not going to work etc.

It's more disrespectful to football (and other sports and events being cancelled fans than it would be respectful to the Queen if it wasnt played.

People who have never cared about sport, unless it is a social occasion (Ascot, Lord's, Wimbledon etc.), and, more importantly, despise everything that football offers.

It will just be political no doubt with a "Look how much I care" by the people calling the shots.

I would guess the issue is royal protocol would have been written many many years ago. Where news was slow and people where attached more to the Royals. So things stopped as a mark of respect as the news swept the country.

So kinda outdated now aways.

By the sounds of things haven’t stopped though.

A thought that popped in my head was would all sport in the USA be cancelled over a weekend if the serving President passed away (let's be honest... it could happen)?

I would say, probably yes... but I could be way off base.

Then I had another thought that Trump & the MAGA loons would then invade The White House on the basis that they were the last tenants!
