Godden out for 3 to 4 months with ruptured ankle ligaments.

Good job Waghorn is starting to find some form.

How long do they have left on their contracts? We could urgently use Kelly's wages elsewhere if he's not going to be useable.

Well 2 players of quality that don't play because of injury consistently you have to move on with other players more so at city because of affecting the players budget given to management.

With Godden and Kelly injured (shock both of them this time of year as per usual) I think we may have to change formation to 3-4-2-1 and have Palmer & O’Hare behind Gyokeres.

Until O’Hare is fully fit we could play 3-4-1-2 and use Waghorn

I guess it’s dependant on who we play but I think we will survive without them

As much as I like Godden playing always 50% of the season or less is not enough and unfortunately shouldn’t get another contract

They both need fucking off.. Goddens form of late has been abysmal and yet again another long term injury and Kelly is always injured now...they and their bodies are done here and just a drain on resources thanks for your time here but time to part ways

Fucking hell, and Mark Robins talks about the great support we have. I'm sure both players are gutted too

Kelly is in the last year of his contract which will not be extended. His body is not going to allow him to compete at the level we need him to. He is 1 of 11 out of contract come summer which i see only 4 from the list staying on.

Kelly still has a role to play in the squad , I doubt he will ever start many games but to bring off the bench his experience is invaluable.
As for Godden he is still , for me , our best finisher . Strikers go through highs and lows , when Godden is hot he scores
To write off both would be criminal

But if both are going to keep being injured, thus not in form, we can't afford to carry them. Our budget is far too tight for that.

No denying they've been outstanding players for our club, and they've done the job we needed them for. But we simply can't afford to have our wage budget tied up in perennial long term injuries. That's the harsh nature of where we are.

We can't afford to be sentimental in the position we are in.

The problem is replacing them . With Kelly it should free up wages for more defensive cover which is needed but can we let Godden go ?

I am sure they are gutted and so are we using our valuable budget and not getting a return atm... its a ruthless game and its time to be ruthless unfortunately

How much would it cost to cancel their contact?

What are you on about ? So player gets injured your answer is to cancel his contract. So we should have cancelled O’Hares then. Injuries are part and parcel of football and every week it’s fingers crossed no one gets crocked.
Good for future signings too. What security can you off me?
'Well, if you get injured longer than 3 months it's instant dismissal'

I'm not saying we should cancel their contract, read my first post

Probably the same as keeping them until it finishes less medical costs each week

If we cancel their contacts what does that say about us as a club, and who's going to want to join us if they see how we treat the players.

We cancel a players contract the money doesn't just become available again.

Well with Kelly if he ain’t gunna play between now and the end of the season and he’s injured anyways then yeah I’d look to cancel the contract, as well as Hillsner if it meant saving money on people who can’t contribute.

One would hope Kelly is coming to a point though in his career where he should start considering coaching and if he can’t play then perhaps contribute to the team in other ways as captain and help the coaches out for his money.

Man I’d feel so guilty taking that money every week and being injured all the time

Just idiotic we have these two on extended deals and if we turned money down for godden regardless of any injury that beggars belief

Absolutely typical.

Rather than enjoying winning 3 in a row, some always need to find something to bitch and moan about.

Most of us I'm sure wish Matty and Kelly the quickest possible return from injury - they have both been key players for this club.

Now, we can sit here and consider how wise it was to give them the contracts they're on in the first place, but once they've got them just getting rid of them because we fancy it isn't an option.

if we cancelled their contracts it wouldn't save us money because the clue's in the name - contract. We'd have to pay it up in some way, either severance written into the contract or what they'd been due anyway. Only instead of having that cost spread out over the remaining months it might well be due immediately, causing cashflow problems. So same cost but no player available at all. Stupid decision.

Then there's the knock on to squad morale. Not just that it could upset the togetherness if they player is liked and/or respected by the rest of the squad, If we just got rid of a player in contract just because we didn't want them anymore, the entire squad would have that constant fear of being dumped at any point and be demotivated, thinking if the club aren't going to commit to me why should I commit to the club?

Plus if we could just get rid, then there would have to be equivalence for them and they'd be able to just walk out whenever they liked. So a few good performances and a good contract offer from someone else and off they go and we get nothing.

So financially and in terms of man-management it's a ridiculous suggestion.

How would it save money?

For someone like Hillsner who probably just wants to go back to Germany you could just take a severance package for lower than what his total wages would be and just go home.

Unsure as to whether he’s doing his rehab here or Germany but if it’s here then he may just wanna go home and would take a certain amount of money to buy out his contract. We bought out Jobello didn’t we?
