He was signed as a Championship player and would likely need us to pay a percentage of his wages - it's just wasting money.

Why would top 6 L1 clubs swap their keeper for a more expensive option?

At this stage he'd be considered somewhat of a risky signing as well; he's more likely to be of interest to a mid-table League 1 club, so he's most likely to just see out his contract here with Wilson as number 1.

Erm. If they thought he was better?

on that basis he’d be sold now wouldn’t he? His wages will be far higher

No because we don't have a backup keeper.

I'm almost certain he'll move on in the summer

its a bizarre argument - surely as robins considers Wilson number 1 league 1 clubs would target him as he’s cheaper and not on contract? Why would they sign out reserve whose on more money

I suspect it's just the timing of this. If we had signed a few other players of genuine quality, and then got ourselves a new number 1 (with Moore moving on), I don't think anyone would be being anywhere near as harsh.

I wouldn't want him as our out and out number 1, but as a backup goalie he's absolutely fine, and he should be given some credit by the fans.

With the wages, I think people need to remember that even if his salary is perceived as 'low', that still adds up when you've already got 7 or 8 that are wasting budget - and that is the case for us. I just hope the club have some better tricks up their sleeves in time to come as our recruitment and contract policy has been a bit bizarre for a while, putting it politely. I do hope in this scenario, that we are seeing a new number 1 come summer.

Why such a long contract!! Got him for fucking ages now

This summer was meant to be dead wood clearout and now we’ve got this wanker for 2 and a half more years

Why with him and Eccles we not doing 1 + 1 in our favour depending how things go

Imagine we get promoted and got all these gooses still with us who don’t cut the mustard

Because he's (currently) number one so we wouldn't want to sell. We'd be more likely to sell our number 2.

It's not a difficult concept.

If a club came in for an offer for either of them, the club would snap their hand off.
We've got next to no chance of selling Moore - the best we could hope for is paying a % of his wages next season.

I keep seeing people on here praising MR .This is the same man who has put he faith in Wilson a goalkeeper who has been part of a defence that has conceded less goals than any one except the top 2. I suggest the other end of the field the problems are putting the ball in the net.I'll put me tin hat on now

Having just signed a contract no one is going to buy Wilson but we'd be able to offload Moore in the summer, even on a free.

Haha, talk about naive.

You've never heard of a single player taking a paycut for first team football then? Cool.

You're generally a sound poster but I think you're so blinded by your Wilson hate you've spoken some real nonsense on the keeping situation this season.

Of course some players take pay cuts but a lot of the time it involves coming to an agreement with their former club over the difference in wages - it's not like they just agree to get paid less.

I don't hate any of our players or former players - I want the best for the club and for us to actually progress. Neither of the keepers should be retained as they're nowhere near good enough.

Moore never wanted a move when a premiership understudy for a pay cut - it’s just baseless nonsense

How do you know?

It really is incredible how you seem to know exactly what every player, manager and chairman in football was thinking at any point in history.

Quite the talent.

Most unreliable stats going to judge a goalkeeper on, or probably in the whole of football tbh. Doesn't take into account quantity or quality of shots faced.
Was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment. I think we need a better keeper, but in general given our defensive record, I don’t think keeper is the worst of our problems

If you knew Moore was definitely off in the summer it’s maybe ok but we could be stuck with him and Wilson when we really need a decent number one
