Ive been pretty critical of him as a footballer playing for us but Robins hasn't got anyone to really replace him with, my main crticism of him is that he is usually late to any tackle where the ball has invariably been moved on, he gives 100% I am sure because his energy levels have been very admirable BUT for us to progress as a team we really do need better, our midfield needs to defend as a unit and sadly that is not happening with Allen in the form of tackles but he does give us energy in closing down but just think if he could close down and win a few tackles his ratings would definitely go up. As I said in another post his time must surely be coming to an end here and yes he can pass if he has time and space but he is very lightweight and seems to be easily knocked off the ball. I wish the guy no harm he is what he is he and was decent in league 1 for us and has scored a few goals but he isn't what we need now to rock up the league..

No , but it doesn't mean he's a shit footballer , we need a squad

Ive been asking for months what he brings other than stamina in running and this is all I’ve got back: vague statements about needing a squad or adding something. Ask about any other member of the squad and they can specify a trait that makes them worthwhile. I think that says it all.

I've yet to see a compelling argument to suggest Jamie allen is a nothing midfielder , especially when he's the clubs joint second top scorer this season

He’s played almost every minute as part of a front three! I’d hope so. He has a lower MPG than Waghorn.

Again though you're ignoring the times the bloke gets dropped back into central midfield .. I mean besides the goals and the assists and the running and the closing down from the front .. what does Jamie allen actually do

He doesn’t close down though, he stands off and never wins the ball. He doesn’t assist either, he has the same assists as Eccles and one more than Panzo. And he’s an AM.

As I've just said he's played 11 matches at attacking midfield this season

Nonsense. He’s played as part of the box most games. Who am I going to believe transfermarkt or my lying eyes?

You're not believing anything put infront of you to be fair , so I'm going to say your lying eyes

He has one less assist than Palmer who has played far more in the AM role than Allen - more shots, greater shot accuracy, more goals...

He's an honest player and the importance of his work rate to the way we play cannot be understated.

He does lack some quality in execution at times but still a solid championship squad player.

Similar to Dabo, the vitriol is underserved.

I agree he is a decent squad player. You cant have a team of superstars.

Love reading lot of the opinions on this thread. Robins sees Allen everyday in training and knows his qualities (and deficiencies). He sees fit to name him captain when Fadz is injured and has played most games this season. Robins I think sees him as reliable, dependable and disciplined both on and off the field) and necessary to run and pressure opposition. He doesn’t always win the ball but is excellent at covering from side to side on the pitch (often the first to support/cover the wingbacks) and is effective at slowing opposition attacks.

You say that - I’ve always been a sheaf fan. But I counted on at least 3 occasions in the first half he played suicide passes to Allen who took the brunt from the fans for losing the ball
How dare you!
Its all down to one player and one alone.

Looking at that I'm surprised Real or Barca aren't after our players. Allen, 30 goals per 90! He's even ahead of Vik who's only on 29. I'm going to be disappointed if we don't score at least 109 goals in our next game.

He was poor on Saturday

squad player by all means and has definitely contributed this season

but shouldn’t be starting as many games as he should if we want to make that next step

The general consensus on here is our season faltered when fadz and o hare got injured , if they were both still in the side you'd have to imagine we'd be comfortable in the playoffs right now .. and allen would be a part of that .. we aren't dropping points because of Allen.

No just that.

Look you think he’s good, I don’t. Not sure what else there is to say.

Other than the manager and the coaching staff agree with him and not you

Tbf if we were looking to “rebuild in the summer”, if we were looking at actual progression, Palmer wouldn’t be starting games either.

Palmer got himself out of jail on Saturday for standing in the right place and heading in a goal. Before that, like Allen, he was completely anonymous.

Adequate. What praise. Can’t wait to get up the CBS and be on the edge of my seat for some adequacy.

I mean it's a realistic assessment, when we have our best 11 out on the pitch allen seems to do well .. he doesn't make us worse ..we have some players who are good enough and some that are very good ..

If you want a team where no player is just adequate , then coventry city with a small wage bill isn't the team for you is it mate , but you ALREADY know this
