I pointed out in the match thread that Furlong moved right back up the touchline to give him a huge advantage in terms of angle when taking that throw in. If it had been a free kick in the corner, the referee and lino would never have let him move the ball back up the field in the same manner. He then took the p*ss, after having been booked for the timewasting towel incident towards the end, by continuing to towel the ball, then snuck another 10 yards down the pitch before taking it.
I think the lino/ref could/should mark where the ball has gone out of play (as per free kicks) to stop players blatantly moving up the pitch the minute the ref has turned his back (they could even have an extra official (s) tasked with it to stop it eating up time)
Edit: This is something I was disappointed that someone in our team didn't challenge the ref about, before the throw in for the goal came about. I was shouting at the TV.
